I agree, it has been overplayed in the media for the last decade. Though I can't say the term has been misused in a majority of cases - terrorism itself is a rather broad term - people certainly seem to be overreacting. I personally have little to no reaction when I hear of an 'attack'. I don't let it get to me. The odds of being blown up by some backpack, shoe, or underwear bomber are incredibly low, especially in the West. The odds are much greater in the Middle East, where attacks like the Boston bombing pale in comparison to happenings which are commonplace. Should such an event happen in my presence (which, as I said, is extremely unlikely), so be it. But until then, I have no plans to let some half-wit with a bomb manual frighten me. That's what they want, and I don't plan on giving it to them. The media on the other hand? Sometimes I think we're going back to yellow journalism - the sensationalist coverage and questioning of "where could it happen next" are certainly what blood-thirsty half-wits like to see, and many people unfortunately buy into it. Really, if we want to get away from the whole post-9/11 mindset, we need to change the way coverage of events like the one in Boston are handled. Having videos of bomb blasts and blood on sidewalks on a loop aren't going to help things any, and quite honestly have no place on television.

Should SimCity be more 'realistic;
snick25 replied to mcallisterw's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You left out Cities XL, which is clearly superior to both the outdated SC4 and childish SimVillage. I just thought I'd throw my biased opinion into this hilarious thread. Seriously, bravo to you all - I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. -

It's a shame they aren't going to build it with the cladding on top - it sure looked neat in the concept pictures. An important milestone regardless. All New Yorkers have to hope for now is the avoidance of another event similar to the one 12 years ago. In a city as dense and busy as NYC, it's a task easier said than done.

The metric system and its lack of adoption in the US
snick25 replied to Duke87's topic in Current Events
I have to wonder about some of the comments being made here. Some of you seem to think it's entirely a matter of rationality, or national pride. Those factors do play a role, of course, but as Bdub01 and others have pointed out, it's more a matter of convenience. Imagine Americans started pressuring Europeans, Australians, or whathaveyou to switch to the Imperial system. Would you want to do it? The answer is most likely no. And I bet it's not only a matter of logic, even as many of you see the metric system as far more "sensible", or a matter of "the big bad United States imposing its will". Instead, I imagine most of you wouldn't want to go through the hassle of leaning an entirely new, and, to some of you, completely alien system of measurement, one that is used daily in everything from business to scientific study and research, right down to daily domestic life, such as measuring the area of a floor for carpeting. Imagine the mayhem. Then magnify it, considering many Americans are rather uniformed (yes, its a stereotype but unfortunately it often rings true), and one can clearly see, this thing ain't gonna happen. And anyone saying our resistance to change to metric is "backwards" or "selfish" is completely misinformed. A bit hypocritical too, seeing as forcing hundreds of millions of people to change the way they live just to make it more convenient for foreigners could come off as quite selfish in its own regard. -

Cities XL, most definitely. SC4 is also a great game, but after a decade, even the best games grow old. I want a modern citybuilder that gives me the ability to actually build a realistic urban setting. SC2013, for many reasons, doesn't fit the bill. CXL (with mods) does, or at least comes pretty darn close.

New DLC, official info
snick25 replied to CaribbeanSail's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Why am I not surprised EA would pull something like this? I hope those who bought the game are happy with their decision, seeing as this is the best it gets on the official front. -
My experience with SimCity, so far...
snick25 replied to Zekkoh's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Your experience seems to be comparable to those of countless others. That's one of the main reasons I am glad I didn't buy this rip-off. -
Is realistic highway available genetically in CXL Platinum edition?

Or, if you would prefer a link to the mod you actually asked for, here's a link to the RHM: http://xlnation.net/content/realistic-highway-mod-0 -
How is downloading mods to CXL2012 different than downloading mods to SC4
snick25 replied to Mr Saturn64's topic in Cities XXL
This guide is useful and straightforward: http://xlnation.net/content/how-install-mods In my experience, downloading and installing mods for Cities XL is way easier than doing so for SimCity 4. And I would recommend looking on sites other than Simtropolis for mods; the same site I linked to for that tutorial has much more content to choose from, including the UIM which comes as a pre-requisite (a dependency, in SC4 terms) for almost every mod out there. -
All you must do to remove those population requirements for certain buildings, roads, and civic services is to enable "Expert Mode" in the options menu. With those restrictions removed you can build anything at any population. Regardless of what you want to build, however, mods are recommended. They make the game ten times better.

EA Makes Worst Company In America History, Wins Title For Second Year In A Row!
snick25 commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
While I think the title of "worst company" might be a tad overkill (my vote goes to Koch Industries), it's nice to see the consumer still has a voice. Deliver a bad product, all the while lying and cheating your way into people's wallets, and ye shall be smited. And rightfully so. -
EA voted the worst company in America
snick25 replied to snake117's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Not sure if I would call them the worst company out there... they're certainly the worst gaming company though; no doubt about that, and it's nice to see some much-deserved publicity of this fact. -
cities xl platinum on sale origin selling for $12.49 & steam for $20.09
snick25 replied to oldbrokenlink's topic in Cities XXL
There are plenty of remedies to the memory leak (and I must say it is debatable whether it is really a leak or something else; I've heard arguments for several different potential causes). One is as simple as to exit your city every now and then - that has demonstrated success. Check out XL Nation for other solutions. Actually these prices are no longer available!! Just checked your links!! Anyway I wouldn't just buy a game that I have never tried yet! There are no demo's available!!! Everyone just wants you to pan out 25-30 bucks for something that may or may not work????? I don't think so!!! I may have went for the 12.50 at steam but there's nothing there except for the Platinum for 30 bucks!! If you check around it seems either no one has it available and the ones that do they want you to pay up front with NO guarentee So I say they just lost a prospective/future buyer!!! Sales usually involve a time limit, last time I checked. -
There are a few mods out there that add rail, but it's not functional unfortunately. However, there is a big project in the works right now which will add several different types of rail to the game. Check out the NEXL Team at XL Nation for more details.

Yes, heck yes! Mods made for CXL as of yet have virtually no dependencies, the only main one being the UIM (User Interface Mod) and once you download that you're pretty much set. As for menus, the UIM adds and enhances the in-game interface, therefore getting rid of any potential problems with having to scroll through endless menus such as in SC4. And yes, those problems with dependencies is one of the reasons I moved away from SC4, being a longtime fan of that franchise. Also: What a well-supported opinion! Care to elaborate?

EA CEO John Riccitiello Steps Down
snick25 replied to GenXisT's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Good riddance. Let's just hope the next suit won't be as brainless as this one was. -
Yeah, many games with good sales are pure crap in terms of quality. Most of the games marketed to the crazed social media addicts come to mind (hmm, that sounds familiar actually...). Besides, that figure above only represents the number of people who fell for this scam initially anyway. I'd like to see the real numbers - the number of sales with refunds subtracted. How much you wanna bet that whole issue with "chargebacking"... e.g. EA not giving people refunds were to make their sales numbers look better to their shareholders? I wonder how long they can keep that up...

If you don't play SC2013 Would you if it had single player?
snick25 replied to Mr Saturn64's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No, absolutely not. The simulation isn't working properly, power, water, and industry either don't function or aren't needed, and, as many others have said, the maps are too darn small. However, offering a single-player mod would certainly be a step in the right direction. Do that, and fix the game so that it actually works, and they'll probably have tons of new customers. Of course, this is EA's lapdog we're talking about so this stuff is likely to happen, at least in the near future. -
Cities XL wins hands-down for me. SimCity 4 is great, but it's getting old... never played the Tropico series but I don't imagine you can do that much with it. And SimScam 2013? Please.
