  3. Discussion about City Tile Size

From iomex on reddit: http://www.reddit.co...simcity_so_far/ The city size is actually smaller than the medium city tile on SC4 but bigger than the small city tile.
  4. New Screenshots

From the reddit page of iomex Max City Size: No highways --------------------------------- The micro simulation sounds excellent. I am still hoping the "big picture" is good. So far, it sounds like a perfect SimTown. But will it be a good SimCity?
  5. Sounds like a loop in the program. I hope you read the instructions carefully. It sounds like a program loop from a bad install. Please follow the tutorial here at Simpeg 100 %: http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=articles;cat=7 You might have to reinstall all over again.
  6. “If you look back at previous SimCities, they were almost all self-contained,” Quigley said. “Every city wound up doing pretty much everything. That drove all the cities to a certain level of homogeneity, and all the cities sort of converged onto the same sort of thing over the arc of play. That struck me as being a little sad. If you look at real cities, they all clearly do distinct things and have identities based around those things. I wanted to let cities differentiate themselves and let them find some way that wouldn’t automatically make them converge and allow them take on unique identities.” Cities with personality? Obviously, Quigley doesn’t realize the dangerously short hop between that sentiment and a fully sentient metropolis. Either that, or he’s visited Portland one too many times. “SimCity is always kind of a lonely experience; you’re planning your cities all by yourself,” continued Quigley. “One of the ways that things you do take on significance is how they affect other people. The things that you do for other people give meaning to your own life and your own existence. I wanted to make cities more resonant and meaningful, and thought they would have more presence if they were doing things for other cities as well. The cities matter to the people around you, not just to you.” I’m worried that I may not even want my cities to matter to the people around me. The important decisions in previous SimCity games only affected my personal urban achievements, but responsibility to others isn’t what I associate with the series. The idea of working together to build SimCity’s “Great Works” does look attractive, so long as these cooperative projects don’t diminish the personal feeling of accomplishment from handcrafting a thriving burg by myself. Older SimCity games pulled that off quite well—yes, while I was all alone—and I’m not sure if I’d much enjoy seeing “MaYoR420BLAZE” of Yolotown on the leaderboards picking apart my stats. But Quigley could be right: it’ll all come into clearer focus when SimCity releases on March 5. http://www.pcgamer.c...-always-online/
  7. You are talking about how the traffic is represented visually. While that is definitely better, we have no info yet about how good the traffic simulator is. I notice that cars need to make U turns on the intersections and cannot cross roads directly. This is minor but think about how this might be a big problem if you have a 1 km road. If you are taking about the transportation systems, base SC4: Rush Hour already has much more. We'll see if SC (2013) will get an expansion pack. The new zoning density rules are not necessary. If you look around the world, there are many cities like Budapest, Venezia (Venice), Dhaka, Mumbai, Manila, Lisbon, New York, etc. where there is no correlation between building size and road size. The new density zoning rules apply to cities in California.
  8. This is a re - post of my list of Sim City 2013 Pro's and Cons: Pros Amazing attention to small details. Water table Wind Direction Weather "Real" living individual citizens 3D camera Education, Hospitals, Police, Etc. can now be shared between cities. 3D transit pathing Curved Roads Can see Path taken by Citizens to Work and Back. The simulation is asynchronous. No more grid! Cons Transportation options and the promised overpasses have now been axed. Cities can be taken over by some random people if you do not play SimCity for some time. Regions are all pre - set. NO TERRAFORMING. The new zoning density rules should be scrapped. No urban sprawl = no more metropolis. Lack of control over all the space. Uneditable, useless spaces between cities. Single player cannot be accessed unless you have internet connection. Answer on Reddit to "What happens if my internet connection is disconnected while saving?" is this. 16 small cities is the max number of cities for a region. No control over pre - set highway connections and roads EA cannot even assure people if the game will still be playable in any form once the servers get shut down for maintenance or permanently. Lack of scale. In my opinion, this is the "Achilles Heel" of SimCity (2013): Save Cap Limits. That's right. You are given a max number of cities/regions. Once you use all your save slots, the only way to continue is to delete your regions or cities to make room for more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most reasonable people here do not expect Sim City (2013) to outdo all the BATs and Lots that have been made by the Custom Content Community. However, we expect them to make a big upgrade to the region and transportation system, include all of SimCity 4 + Rush Hour's features, plus give us a true region building experience with 100% control of the space.

I can't wait for the next update: Gobias Sudden Valley Terrain Mod!
  10. dohraymii, that's a good habit. If you just want to remove them from the Menu, you can also use DAMN and SSP Tool to hide them. Go to: DAMN options > Hide Configurations Then Check: [/] Use separate folder for hidden lots [/] Set hidden for lots which are DAMNed DAMN the Maxis Landmark buildings using the SSP Tool's DAMN Manager. The run DAMN-Indexer.cmd (VERY IMPORTANT!) and they won't appear in the default Landmarks menu.

  12. marcomsousa 69 points 12 hours ago Since this is online, will there be a limit in the number of regions/cities that I can play? [–]MaxisKip 87 points 11 hours ago Yes, we had to put a cap here. We learned a lot on Spore about this. You'll have plenty of save slots, which will allow you to create and manage many regions and cities. We haven't locked the number yet, but what I can say is that they are bound to regions. So if you created a 16 city region, you could play all 16 cities and that would be one save slot. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/14umm1/we_are_the_simcity_dev_team_from_maxis_amaa/c7gki41 ========================================================================================================= For $ 60+, it's extremely embarrassing that they decided to put a save cap limit on the game. You pay for a limited amount of regions and cities and that's it. Once you run out of save slots, you will need to delete your regions and cities to make space... ...Or you can pay EA to make another account. It's official: Sim City (2013) is the first Sim City game which ends. Whose idea was this?
  13. Hello grugor, That does not justify the price, which is around $60. In other words, this game will eventually "end" and is not expected to have the same lifespan of its predecessors. I expect the average person to finish it in within 6 months - 4 years. (You might finish it far faster if you are on multi - player.) I don't recall anyone from Maxis saying that the slots are exactly 10 either. Do you have a source?
  14. SimCity: 10 Reasons You Should Be Excited

I really don't want to be negative. And I know the Maxis devs have been super patient. But I want to be honest. As it stands, this game has an unbelievable number of unnecessary rules and restrictions compared to its predecessors. It is now hardly worthy of being considered a reboot. Something is really wrong when an extremely dated game like Sim City 3000 Unlimited has much more freedom than this game. This is not a reboot. What we are looking at so far is one step forward and a jump backwards. When the game comes out I will see if it is good. But for now, I cannot understand how a company can pretend nothing is wrong. This game is a train wreck waiting to happen. It's nice that they really took the time to concentrate on all those small details. But they really need to do a LOT of work with the "big picture". If Maxis is talking about getting a new fanbase to the series, where on earth is this fanbase? Making MAJOR cuts to the series is not going to make ANYONE a fan. I somehow wonder why people on major gaming sites still even bother to defend what can no longer be defended. I will 100% support having the release date pushed back to 2015 if they can at least promise to fix all the issues we have been talking about here. I want the devs to really prove us wrong. Maxis will has no other choice except extend the release date to 2015. They really need to re - do major portions of the game, rethink their strategy, and clean it. If they don't this is going to be SimCity's: "MI ULTIMO ADIOS". R.I.P. Sim City (1989 - 2013)
  15. You should use the DAMN and SSP Tool. It is a MUST if you have a lot of custom content. There's a tutorial here:
  16. SimCity: 10 Reasons You Should Be Excited

Pros: Amazing attention to small details. 17. The City Services of SimCity

To be fair, I LOVE the idea that you can share schools, hospitals, police, etc. with another city. The micro - simulation and all the little details in it sounds great. I am just worried about the big picture.
  18. Ideally, if they want to make people INTERACT with each other and stop being so "lonely", I have a BETTER idea: Interactive 3D CJ's! With so many beautiful CJ works, what if CJ's were 100% 3D? Just give us: a full - offline singleplayer mode, online optional for chalenges etc. unending list of tilesets around the world (don't put "limits" on the number of tilesets, make sure that players can add to the number of tilesets infinitely) destroy all that space between cities, give us what the NAM can offer and MORE an ability to customize the textures and details of every street just like in real life, on the spot, MMPS Terraforming Lot Edit "on the spot". NO SAVE CAP LIMIT ability to make tourist businesses, beaches, forests, stadiums, parks, etc can attract "real" tourists Filler Lots and Decoration Farms, Ploppable Water Menu that can be customized etc Can you imagine visiting someone else's CJ?
  19. I find it odd that he is putting down a game he himself made. Perhaps EA asked him to be ashamed of the previous SC titles to market SC (2013). It does not sound like something he would say. Besides, I am not sure how this game will break the homogeneity unless they are referring to the "Great Works" and the weekly "challenges". These won't change how someone will want to envision his ideal city. They are just hoping that adding missions will make the game more exciting. The only thing that will do is make the game feel so disjointed and make city building disorganized (now more obvious because of the space between cities rule). Why the heck does building an airport have to follow some multi - player/city requirement? That's not fun, it's just annoying.
  20. NAM General Support

Pretty much. If it's for third-party lots, then I don't think there's any sort of NAM-created lot support for any GLR components, unlike RHW or NWM. http://ragutaro.sakura.ne.jp/bbs/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=803: Are you looking for this?: z_GLR_SandStone_Textures_Mod.zip It's part of the Japanese NAM Facelift Mod (The overpasses are outdated): z_NAM_FaceLift_Mod.zip

Where did you get that feeling from?
  22. Kashichikimidotomo Arikuna

    Errr... What is this?
  23. ^^^ There really are no good justifications for making the game an online multiplayer. Sim City (2013) will concentrate more on objectives a player needs to do rather than Sim City 4 which emphasizes creating the city/region you envision.
  24. SC4Mapper 2013 Version
