Its a great concept. I have not seen anything like it probably because it is hard to make. However, a comparison to Maxis's shortcomings won't get you off the hook. I think that perhaps in your next version (if there is a next version) you could try to lengthen the lot to something more suitable. If you don't want to go through the trouble, at least get rid of the wall between the freeway and the offramp...it feels painful just look at it...could you imagine crashing into that thing head on?

What is the point of this? I don't see the point of replacing a perfectly good network with something that doesn't achieve anything new. Also, there is research going on/planned for the monorail such as ground monorail and monorail over road. I think that if any network should be replaced, it should be the rail network because unlike monorail and elevated rail, rail is meant for people traveling out of town (at least around where I am from). The whole point of having a bullet train is to cover long distance in less time. It wouldn't be realistic to take a bullet train from home to get to work 10 blocks away. I guess I am sounding critical. It's just that the monorail seems fine and changing it would simply be excessive.

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
andreharv replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
A fundamental question: What is the car capacity of the RHW? I am guessing it is 5000 like the avenue. Can this be easily changed to that of a regular highway?- 3,919 Replies

Well really it depends on your level of gaming. If you play the game just to make farms and/or suburbs with graphics settings down, you should be alright where you are (just update your graphics driver). If you want to go all out and get best detail and especially see more cars on the roads and people, etc, 64mbs of video memory is just not going to cut it. the GeForce fx is your best value for playing SC4 because they are usually 128mbs/256mbs and with updated drivers they are not a problem. Furthermore, they are relatively inexpensive. The problem with using onboard video is that it is usually not as stable or efficient as a card and because it is only 64mbs, whenever it needs more memory, it will borrow it from your ram...this is bad. As far as ram, like the video, 512 is sufficient for low end gaming. However, with a processor like yours (quite sufficient), a switch from 512mb to 1gb of ram will yield the largest performace boost and may be sufficient in itself. Lucky for you, a memory upgrade would probably be the cheapest upgrade to increase performace of simcity. You will have to figure out exactly what kind of memory you would need. An additional 512 stick would bring you up to 1gb and depending on the speed of the ram that your computer can handle, it will cost anywhere between 40-70 USD.

uuum...ok you do that... Anyway, I have: athlon 2600 (thunderbird) 1gb pc2100 (266MHz) ram BFG GeForce 6800gt oc Soundblaster X-fi platinum 280gb hard drive space The game does not perform too well on my system even after defragmentation and closing all unused programs. Because so many people say that 1gb or ram is ok, it would be wise to get pc3200 (400MHz) which is the average speed these days and make sure you have a better chip than a 2600 . As for video, you don't need anything fancy. Just as long as you have 128mb of vram (video ram). I would suggest the GeForce FX 5600 which was my previous card. The FX series is solid with the exception of the 5200 which does not have much game support. If you want to play other games that require a decent graphics card and you don't want to spend too much (by comparison) I would settle for a comp with an ati 9800 or geforce fx 5950.

Its a good replacement to the old clunky looking sheltered bridge in the game (the one with the roof).

I am really intersted in this idea. I am very eager to join but not right now as I am bogged down with finals but I will be done before the new expansion I am sure. Anwyay, three questions. 1. How much of other people's districts do you have access to. Can you see where your sims go when they leave your district (via the traffic query). 2. Can you initiate business deals with other people? 3. Do you think that it would be possible to have an ingame chat? Perhaps by modding the dialogue box already in the game?

did all of those skyscrapers grow like that or did you plop them all? Also, I would suggest replacing that archaic rail with a more urban monorail for a sleek look to go along with your city. Call me shallow but I love skyscrapers.

Date: 11/17/2005 11:26:29 PM Author: da_sim_dude Um I don't know if the RHW caused this problem but when I played SC4, I have noticed some intersections that are invisable. I think it caused it because when I took out the mod, there was no more. I post a picture soon about what I am talking about. ::Edit::Here's a picture of what happened after after the RHW was in,like an invisable intersection: quote> I am having the same problem with the highway mod. I tried isolating it with the NAM but it didn't help. I thought I could ignore this problem but it is progressive (it gets worse as you play). Does anyone have this problem?

I believe more testing on my behalf is needed but tell me what you think...I made a city of about 60 to 70 thousand. I was working on it for about 3 days and then I decided to reinstall the nam (to get road turning lanes which actually never seemed to work). When I started the game back up, none of the sims were able to commute. Over time, they all became unemployed and I started losing lots of money so I decided to start over. I wiped out the city (I tend to wipe out cities that I would work months on for little to no reason because inspiration comes and goes ). Anyway, I started a new city and used the existing neighborhood connections to get the city off the ground and to my dismay, the sims were still not commuting. I cannot get ignore this as not fixing this problem would render the game unplayable by any means. Has anyone had this problem or better yet does anyone know what is going on?

There are at least 3 different expanded highway mod projects going on in the transit modding secion. The 65,535 (ffff) cap is only applicable per tile and these networks take up 2 tiles in each direction upping the max to 131,070. That is an idealic figure because for that to work, the cars would have to be evenly distributed on the two tiles. If there was a way to do that, then it would definately improve the gameplay experience for the more extreme city builder.

Can you Accept me into the Community?
andreharv replied to plasticboy's topic in New Members Information
Sup dude, welcome to ST. Your here cuz maxis/ea don't care much for this game (otherwise you would be there). Anyway, as a junky of this site (in other words i visit this site more than I actually play the game), I would advise you to be inventive and feel free to ask questions BUT be sure to note that on the last option under the all forums section on the left side panel, there is a choice to search forums. Its a lot easier than trying to start a new topic and it reduces clutter. I wish all new members got this info cuz if you become a junky like me, you will see how annoying it is to see the same topics in new threads over and over. Finally, your computer seems decent so download the NAM (network addon modification) If you go back to the homepage and scroll down to simtropolis news it should be the first or second topic. There should be a link right on it for mac users or pc users (hopefully you will get the pc version cuz macs suck - be careful when saying that, Compromise) Anyway, dude welcome to ST.
