  1. Who uses money cheats/mods?

I don't use money cheats, but... Not sure if this counts, but I'm a real sucker for island cities/regions. This'll mean tons and tons of commuters travelling along congested stock/custom ferry routes. I've never had a problem with a lack of money, in fact I have a problem with having way too much and getting carried away with what to spend it on. (Don't I sound pretentious there?) When I start a new city in the region (a new island), the first ferry route usually kills all the debt and the city bounces straight into a surplus. The route's congested from all the prospering, neighbouring city connections. It feels weird knowing that the entire region is debt-free thanks to measly transit fares. :|
  2. Show us your City Transit Maps!

I use Microsoft Visio, but I've seen others brilliantly use MS Paint, Inkscape, and Adobe Illustrator. I also have this bookmarked for some reason: http://beno.org.uk/metromapcreator/#
  3. Show us What you're Working On

Fantasized a monorail map of my only large city tile: To make a map in Visio! (WIP) It's really, really, really disproportional, I know. But I hope that "users" can easily find that the message gets across via my map.
  4. SimCity Beta.

For those who are lucky enough to attain a code deployed to the public (through dev Twitter feeds, dev Reddit deployments, giveaways), where would they be inputted? Just curious in case I have this lucky opportunity.
  5. Can't Work Out Profit

I had a similar situation. I was developing a region of islands. Islands everywhere. Then I got to play around with the large tiles and I connected them to the region-wide ferry system. Oh. My. Goodness. Income boomed from struggling to break even to +127k profit. The ferry system was so congested that there was no red or orange on the volume layer map, only white. For every route. Transit fares on this tile contributes to the massive income it rakes in. Without it, I'd be long in debt.
  6. Why wouldn't it? We asked the same question with Vista, and it worked fine. Windows 7 was (underneath) full of minor improvements to Vista, and Windows 8 is likewise the same incremental update to Windows 7. What we should be worried about is something completely brand new years to come. But by then, SimCity 4 won't have the same massive player base it heeds now (God forbid, please prove me wrong), and everyone's flocked to SimCity 2013. Plus, there'll likely be compatibility mode then, too. I ramble and ramble...
  7. Bus Route Mod

Think about it this way, the most realistic real-world application to the buses in SC4 is the dial-a-bus service found in some cities. Edmonton, Canada had it, and St. Albert, Strathcona County, Alberta Transit still uses it.
  8. The United Cities*4th Birthday and Retirement!*

I've been hounding threads, and I've found one with these floaty transparent highway signs. Well, a ton of people use them. They're all nice work. Yours is no exception, they're beautiful. ...are they a game mod or did you just picture edit them in? :|
  9. My language is iceland

If there are files that apply changes to the main game's language, re-create that file and add in the translations of your own. ...if I understand your question correctly, that is.
  10. Can i see someone cheated?

Ooh, here's a fun one. If you have administrator privileges on your network, set the Plugins folder on both the program directory and the individual user's directory to write-lock. Combine THIS and the fact that the built-in cheats are dead-simple to spot and ineffective to use, and you have a teacher's fool-proof cheat guard. Keep in mind I'm still under the impression that this project is done at school. But even then, you should encourage your students to wrap up any work AT school before submission for maximum guard. As for executable trainers and installers, you'd need basic administrator privileges to install them or even run them in a way that it can access the game's directory, (I hope I'm not wrong, that would be very embarrassing and offensive to those who actually know the answer) so you're pretty much good there.
  11. Can i see someone cheated?

This is just me guessing outta the blue here, but something I'd suggest is to have a mod-free environment yourself. After you receive your students' cities or regions, be sure you have the vanilla game running. If they were using mods or plugins, you'd instantly see that the most crucial aspects within the city would stop functioning or function stupidly. As for cheat codes, they're mostly simple. Unless the students were very desperate, "weaknesspays" (1000 simoleons per use) cheat code is awful and time-consuming. "fightthepower" and "howdryiam" resets every time you close the game, right? If it doesn't, just check your power and water supply graph to see if there's anything strange. Warning, it requires graph-reading skills . "you don't deserve it" can be circumvented by seeing which reward buildings have been implemented. You can find one, and search for it in the building list, and if it was plopped through dishonest means, it will say "This building is not available" or something like that. Maybe someone else has more ideas?
  12. Ferry terminals roads connection?

As answered above twice, this is how your ferry terminal should look after dragging the roads through them. You've spent enough time placing them on the perfect plot of land, and the next step is quite simple, drag it through once more: I really admire the ferry system. Hope you have fun with them!
  13. problem ferry

Either I screwed up bad counting, but I've hit my 16 ferry limit, and all other ferry terminals I want to add extra within a city tile come from the Exchange. I got the Modern Ferry Terminal, and a Water Taxi mod. Here you go:
  14. Screwed environment?

Do God Mode trees make a difference in comparison to Mayor Mode trees? It's a fun habit of mine to completely fill up an entire city when editing it in God Mode with trees. It gives that undisturbed and pristine feeling when starting anew. Though compared to when I did not have this habit adopted, the pollution levels on both the data map and data chart are similar when comparing city tiles in similar size and industrial strength.
  15. From what I understand, the options are random. Zone either low, medium, or high density (your ONLY options), or agricultural, medium, or high density industrial to achieve different types of buildings. There should be no difference between the SimCity 4 games found in retail, and the ones found in Steam. As for your menu options, you were probably thinking of another game. I don't recall any SimCity game where you were offered more than three options for building residential or industrial.
  16. What is your favouite airport?

Is that Atlanta? (just a guess) My favourites in order: 1) Vancouver International Airport YVR Great shopping, good eats, beautiful airport, and the jaw-dropping view of the Lower Mainland when flying in. Not to mention the staff are still buzzing with Vancouver 2010 excitement, I absolutely love that. The navigation during connections is tedious, but has nice views, and overall an experience worth having. Be sure to use the SkyTrain's Canada Line to connect straight into downtown Vancouver or Richmond! 2) Chek Lap Kok International Airport, Hong Kong HKG Biggest airport I've been in, and it's lovely. The shopping is admirable, and the sheer size and people served is just astonishing when you're there at peak. Voice announcement and lounge service is efficient and friendly, and the pre-security areas feel like I'm in year 2040. I love riding the mini-MTR within the International Terminal. 3) Edmonton International Airport YEG My home airport, and my hub when meeting family and friends. I keep up to date on its expansion and development, and I know pretty much the good spots to chill, dine, and play. It holds a special place in my heart. 4) Tokyo-Narita International Airport NRT It feels like a huge train station or office tower. And I like those two things. The atmosphere is what wins it here. It's a wonderful airport to be in. 5) Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Ho Chi Minh City SGN The new expansion to the international terminal is really pretty. But seeing the city on takeoff and landing is heartwarming and is truly a breathtaking sight to behold. Beware of corrupt customs officials who ask for bribes to speed up any process if you're of Asian descent!
  17. Non-intersecting/Deeper Subway

What I would do is just connect it close to intersection, and bring it temporarily above-grade with the Elevated Rail transition, then have it parade through my neighbourhoods a bit and bring it underground. I'd actually prefer any kind of elevated rail, it just seems more realistic to use in a game like SC4, and not to mention its aesthetic value it brings to my city. I love it. Subway seems to discreet, hidden, and not at all realistic when I implement them. With that last paragraph, if I ever mean to avoid another E-rail, or duck under a big thoroughfare, I'd use the above method I mentioned in reverse, to bury the rail under the part I want hidden. Of course, with the NAM, there's all kinds of unique modifications, most notably having higher grade monorail tracks.
  18. Curiosity : Steam players only :

I don't own the Steam edition but I use Wakoopa to keep track of my app usage. 145 hours, 42 minutes, 8 seconds.
  19. I've been loving the beta (Consumer Preview), and just recently the release candidate (Release Preview) of Windows 8. I'll be sure to pick up a copy when it comes to RTM this summer. Hopefully I'll have my mind put on investing on an Intel-based Windows 8 tablet (praying that it meets the minimum requirements for SC2013) when that comes out as well. If SimCity 2013 comes with a teensy-bit of love for Windows 8 tablets, I'll surely be more than happy to seek cloud storage syncing solutions to pick up my SCing on the go, right where I left off. Windows 7 touch is pretty well-developed, though not the best. I can't imagine how its current limitations would render SC4 remotely touch capable. By that, I mean basic controls, like camera controls, and building by dragging. I suppose with the effort, one might be able to configure pinch-to-zoom to emulate a mouse wheel scroll (for zooming in), tap and drag for dragging roads and pipes, and maybe somehow implement edge scrolling. It'd be interesting to follow, because even with my future investment on an Intel W8 tablet, I'd hope to run a legacy game like SC4 on it, set up with Dropbox/SkyDrive for progress syncing. I have fears the premiere tablets won't run SC2013, but SC4 ain't so bad for mobile/casual gaming.
  20. Cool Interchange

Oh my goodness! Another Edmontonian!!! Well, we have quite a few in the city, and more are popping up in residential areas, although they're really small and narrow. Looking at the first two in Athens and a city in the Netherlands, I've seen a few in Vietnam that use that similar model. It seems to be very efficient as an interchange. I'll see if I can dig up some photos... ...close enough!
  21. Ever since I've fallen in love with the Vancouver SkyTrain and have become a transit activist, I'll just say that I LOVE the monorail, and however cumbersome it is to implement in my cities, IT MUST BE THERE. Each station is named, each line and circuit is organised, I love it. Hello there. First time poster, loooooong time lurker.
