How can i change city level/dificult during game?
isgoed replied to ArturM's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I noticed that it is actually impossible to build mega-cities on hard. The demand for megatowers (commercial and residential) is just less. I have several cities, which I want to make into a supercity, but i find it is simply impossible on 3-star difficulty. I have two cities on easy and there the highrises just pop up everywhere. You do get a realistic-style city on hard. -

Gozer, how much coal power plants do you need? I think it is interesting that you get so much highrises in berkeloo with only two connceting cities. How much jobs and residents do you have?

Still captures of SimCity 4 showing a timelapse of my bigtile 256x256 city "convergence" I started out with two cities. I was planning to let them grow equally. However the west city is more industrial manufacturing/low dense residential. The eastern side of the river has the main commericial strip which is fed by an underground highway. In the year 0076 the cities converged. I did notice a hughe boost in airport usage and traffic between the cities. I will continue to play this city, and see if I can make a commercial skyline. I like sticking to the gameplay of SimCity. This city is my most profitable city, which makes §6000/month almost since it was errected.

To make landfills go away you can use the "landfill eraser mod" https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22737 I can even use it to remove the landfill bug. Just add some landfill zone and remove some zone to the buggy landfill, while preserving a rectangular shape. At some instance when you remove the zone the entire landfill will disappear. I even tried drowning, meteorite hitting, vulcano's, recycling, waste to energy plants and disconnecting roads, but nothing works.

How to Build a Standard Land Bridge
isgoed replied to isgoed's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: jim 546 This is nothing new really. What would be innovative is to build roads etc. under the bridges, a la City Life/Cities XL. But I think this is practically impossible.quote> There is a way: road under bridge: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4524 highway under bridge: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17166 This got me thinking again, if diagonal bridges are possible ? -
I needed to bridge two parts of my city. It seems that this is possible with just the standard game (no mods). I read in www.simtropolis.com/omnibus/index.cfm/Main.SimCity_4.How_to_Build_a_Land_Bridge that you needed a mod, but I figured that, that is not necessary. It takes some trial and error, because the game sometimes refuses to make a bridge. I've noticed that it works best if you build from a small incline on one end to a steep embankment on the other end, which is at a slightly higher level. Here are some examples:

when dirty industry kicks the bucket
isgoed replied to autumnsolace's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: autumnsolace ... is that once they reach a certain size and my sims have decent amenities, dirty industry demand sinks to the floor and it doesn't grow anymore. ...quote> I discovered a basic gameplay trick to boost dirty industry. I noticed that once you make two neighbouring connections to two different cities, your demand changes completely. High-tech rises and Dirty and Agriculture drops. At the same time all commercial demand (especially the low) rises alsmost maxed out. And you also gain an increase in low and mid residential, but this is still affected by your taxes and city-wealth. This means often also a turnover point, where you can make residential hi-rises. So if you want dirty industry in a city you should have only 1 neighbourhood connection. I guess that Airports and Seaports alos influence the demand. Making a high dense residential area without a school near your dirty industry supports a work force for your citizens. It is a bit annoying that this also means that office demands also remains low, so it is difficult to expand your city size, since industrial just doesn't produce that many jobs. I think that the demand also depends on the average IQ of your citizens, so an area with high IQ can block your total dirty industry demand. Where to get this mod in the first place? They said the mod just uses the easter-egg for dec 25 http://compsimgames.about.com/cs/simcity4/qt/snow_simcity4.htm (I have windows, exe is ok)

Solution to the left/right driving issue
isgoed replied to rendermad's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
My solution is somewhat different since, I don't have numbers in my registry. I installed the UK version, but I don't want left-hand-drive. In my registry I had two entries: Language: "English UK" locale: "en-uk". I changed them both to us, but this lead to my game being in dutch, but right hand side. I then made a copy of the EnglshUK language folder and renamed it to Dutch. I know have rhd and english language.
