I ran into that problem a lot, actually. Had to quad-track the entrance to my city to solve it.

I was working on this one for several hours. I got bored of it, though, because trying to work with such narrow bits of land surrounded by water eventually got old.

Yeah, the oil runs out quickly. Ore seems to do so, too. That dark green is likely forest. You could convert your district to that if you want to keep it specialized.
-
I wonder if there's a hook in the API to allow something like that. It'd seriously add to the realism of the game.

I was playing Cities in Motion 2 with a GT210 at the start, but was discouraged enough by the performance to get a GT740 GDDR5 instead. It's no GTX card, but it's still a huge improvement.

Yep, the same applies to their other games. I got Cities in Motion 2 back in 2013 on Windows, and installed Steam on Linux within the few months and got some of my 'fix' playing CiM2 in Linux. Now I just play C:S on Linux and don't bother with Windows.

I think I got SimCity 4 as a holiday gift from my parents, but I'm not sure which one. I still use my SC4 and RH CDs to play it when I play it today.

Just bought the game: What were Your first impressions?
Edman_123 replied to data7's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I've been mainly playing it like I was playing SC4 (grids and whatnot), but am starting to follow the terrain with my roads more now. It's so liberating somehow, not being constrained to a grid. -
I grew up in a town of 30,000 that spans something like 17 square miles. Here's the downtown area, about four miles from my parents' house. This building was originally Mill's Music, and I had my music lessons there back when I was a young teenager. And this is the church where I was confirmed as a Lutheran, though I identify as an agnostic today. There was originally a complicated interchange between two state highways and Main Street at the western edge of the latter, but they recently redid the street grid so there's a lot of open space now. A number of businesses were disconnected from the highway by this, but there's a new street that takes over that duty. A view from the Sammamish River. The old administration center of my school district was demolished too, and replaced with this. And the ancient former high school is being converted into a hotel This is all within the past five or six years. It's nothing like I remember.

I'd like it to bring back trams and rapid transit (subways and so on).
-
You ought to check out Cities in Motion 2 if you like building that sort of stuff. I've been playing it a lot lately (I bought it back in 2013).

What do you want in Cities: Skylines?
Edman_123 replied to AidanA28's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I wonder if modders will be able to do this, akin to how they added RHW after the limited number of stock highway options in SC4.. Hopefully Skylines will have a better method of adding as many kinds of networks as desired, though, unlike SC4.- 307 Replies

Is anyone pumped for this release?
Edman_123 replied to LovelyQuirrel's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I'm pretty stoked, too. The videos only make it worse! -
What do you want in Cities: Skylines?
Edman_123 replied to AidanA28's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I really want the rapid transit/light rail setup from Rush Hour + NAM, with its compact stations and the ability to run them on road medians.. Considering the trams and metro from Cities in Motion 2, I'm sure Colossal Order would be able to put that together down the road.- 307 Replies

The Stupidity of Motorists Never Ceases to Amaze
Edman_123 replied to ROFLyoshi's topic in Current Events
Back when I was a teenager, my father didn't even let me drive the car until I had read the manual. -
That's with my interchangeable-lens camera. I use Hugin to stitch it together after the fact.

These huge safety margins also cause people to speed like mad since they're comfortable with that. People as a whole will only drive slower if the roads feel unsafe to drive any faster. This plus a million. I've been saying this for at least 10 years but nobody else seems to get it! You never seem to see it published anywhere, either, so the myth seems safely protected. Such a disclaimer certainly isn't in the interests of the automotive industry. Considering the anti-vaccination and anti-global climate change people, the stupidity of the populace can't be underestimated. -
A bike trail here recently reopened.

The Stupidity of Motorists Never Ceases to Amaze
Edman_123 replied to ROFLyoshi's topic in Current Events
Pretty much all road users have their…moments. I use bicycles as my cars and I've seen stupidity from all sorts. It's not the vehicles being used; it's the people. However, something a massive and fast as an automobile easily causes significantly more damage. Drivers' education really needs to be made more strict, but that won't happen until people stop frequently structuring their lives around the automobile. The 20th century really screwed humanity over in that regard. -

I saw a few episode of that back in college, too. I saw a bunch of other shows at that club, too, of course. -

Cities: Skylines Announced (Release date 10th March)
Edman_123 replied to Mav12's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Too bad neither of those games run natively on Linux. Wine introduces its own bugs in many cases, and I get enough of Windows and Mac OS X at work to know to avoid them during my leisure time. I may be a minority, but I still want to play these sorts of games. It's hard to not be excited over someone actually giving that consideration. The only 'modern' game I've been playing as of late is Cities in Motion 2 (also from CO/PI), which I like quite a bit. OpenTTD, Simutrans, and Lincity-NG are the only others I've played in recent memory.- 165 Replies

I usually get my stuff from NPR and the BBC, as well as other podcasts of varying sorts that happen to mention news items from time to time. As far as local radio, I usually just listen for local interest stories rather than the world- or nationwide news. I gave up on television years ago; the only stuff I watch these days is anime. I don't even have television service in my unit.

I forgot to mention Non Non Biyori. With how awful daily life is, a little iyashikei feels really nice. I enjoyed Macross 7 and Macross Frontier back in the day. I even have the soundtrack of the latter. -

Before I 'got out of anime' for a couple years, I really liked stuff like Hayate no Gotoku, Zero no Tsukaima, Toaru Majutsu no index, and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. I did watch Digimon Adventure and 02 when I was young, but Inuyasha was the first series I torrented way back when. These days, I've been watching Denki-gai no Honya-san and Nichijou. I honestly didn't like Nichijou until several episodes in, and like the first episodes much more with a rewatch.
