  1. Ok guys, I've always loved the chicago skyline, so I've decided to make it my project to make BATs of chicago buildings. If anyone wants to help me, they are free to. I will be going into Chicago every so often to take some pictures of the buildings I plan on BATing along with pictures of some of the group members buildings they plan on BATing. Members: Darn42 Skyscraper241 Bipin Darknono35 Wishlist, Primary: Wrigley Building Carbon and Carbide Building Mather Tower Aqua One Museum Park Museums River East Complex Marina City River Walls Set Hyatt Center Boeing Building Wishlist, Secondary: 311 Wacker Drive Old Water Tower Board of Trade Building In progress: Chase Tower (darn42) 333 Wacker (darn42) Finished: (darn42) and Tower (Darknono35) (skyscraper241) ) (Darn42) Put off/unfinished: (these might be returned to later, but for a variety of reasons they were put away) Merchandise Mart Feel free to request any chicago buildings you like and post here if you want to join. Also if someone would want to mod completed buildings, that would be great, cause I know that I'm completely clueless.
  2. JP Schriefer's BATs

These are so beautiful! Excellent work! Happy to see how much you've improved! The yellow building in particular is absolutely charming.
  3. Björn_1984's BAT's

Really digging it! Looks a lot like a UPS service center I go to sometimes.

Wow! Jason you've somehow gotten even more extraordinary! There is some amazing work on the horizon here. Those arches are scrum-diddly-umpcious
  5. Chicago BAT Project

*Taps Mic* Hello? Is this thing on? It's about time to properly necro this old thread, don't ya'll think? I should probably give a short explanation why everything died, though. Basically... hard drive crashed and lost literally everything in 2015 and I haven't had the time to restart. That is--dun dun dun--until now! I'm thinking there's no better way to get back into the swing of things by refreshing the projects that I lost way back when. Without Further Ado... Tribune Tower: Take Number Deuce I never really felt like I did the Tribune Tower justice before. My experience was non-existent and I was a literal child. So now with some actual skills and a sharper mind, I think taking a final crack at it might just be cathartic enough to warrant the effort. What I've got right now: the main tower finished already on with the primary details filled in. My goal is to end with the full complex modeled, though. I still have a ways to go in figuring out proportions and whatnot of the extensions. Not to mention all of the little details that will breathe some life into the model that I haven't even thought about yet. Chase Tower: Shoot, this is the third one already This was always my next favorite project, but it somehow never got to the finishing line I haven't spent nearly as much time on Chase as tribune, it's still closer to being done anyway. I finished proportioning the plaza today, which makes the blockout 100% complete. Now it's just details-details-details. I plan on experimenting with some new tech while modeling this (You all know how much I like experimenting) especially with the foliage in the plaza. It's got these hanging Ivy's and I have an idea for a script that I think will make some real good looking leaf blobs. I know it's not too much but I'm excited to get back into the game again. My mantra has always been perfection and I'm hoping I can start to come close with these new additions. I'm hoping to get at least one of these puppies done by December. It's been 3 years already, I think that 4 more months shouldn't be too exhausting of a wait Anyways, that's me. I hope to get some actual previews next week once I re-install BAT4Max and have some free render-time. If anyone has any questions or wants to chit-chat feel free to message me, my doors are open as of today.
  6. CBT: Jewelers Building

I darn42 and the CBT are proud to present The Jeweler's Building. Also known as 35 East Wacker, and formerly the Pure Oil and North American Life Insurance building is located at the intersection of Wabash and Wacker. Built in 1925 and completed in 1927 this art deco beauty has graced the skyline of Chicago for almost 90 years. Originally a high-tech building designed for jewelers, it featured a 23 story car-lift that would bring the jewelry merchants inside before they had to unload their precious cargo. Recently, it was designated a Chicago historical landmark and renovation has been taking place. The beautiful ornamentation on the facade is, thankfully, being maintained. Included in this file are a LM and a CO$$$ growable file. Stats are as follows. LM Pollution: Air:3 Water:3 Garbage:17 Pollution Radii: Air: 1 Water: 2 Garbage: 0 Power Consumed: 110 Water Consumed: 0 Flammability: 10 Max Fire Stage: 4 Lot Size: 4x4 Plop Cost: 168300 CO$$$ Jobs: CO$$: 4567 CO$$$: 3195 Pollution: Air:19 Water:19 Garbage:7 Radii: Air:6 Water:7 Garbage:0 Power Consumed: 128 Water Consumed: 1385 Flammability: 35 Max Stage: 4 Lot size: 4x4 Simfox's Day and Nite Mod is required for the night to be viewed properly. 7. CBT: Tribune Tower

    Version 1.0

The Chicago BAT Team is proud to release its debut to the STEX! The Tribune Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in Chicago today. Built from 1923 to 1925, it's design was arrived at by a contest celebrating the Chicago Tribune's 75 years of operation. Over 258 architects sent designs in, but only one could win. This was awarded to Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells. Their design featured an art deco facade and a neogothic crown, adorned with gargoyles and 8 flying buttresses, creating an effect similar to a cathedral on top of a skyscraper. The building was then built near the Chicago River next to the Wrigley building. It was one of, if not the greatest Chicago building in the early 1900s. Today, it is equally impressive, and stands tall in the skyline. Thankfully, it is still owned by the Chicago Tribune, who have kept it looking beautiful after almost 100 years. Now for the nitty-gritty Included are several CO$$$, stage 8, growable lots for the chicago 1890 tileset. 2x4 (w2w friendly ) 3x4 and 4x4 The stats are: Jobs: 1,575 CO§§§ Consumption: Power: 89 Water: 971 Pollution: Air: 7 over 6 tiles Water: 6 over 7 tiles Garbage: 4 There is also a landmark ploppable version 4x4, LM effect of 40 / 256 tiles, mayor rating +6 / 256 tiles plop cost: 110,000 upkeep: 115/month Besides that, it has identical stats to the growable version. Dependencies are Bsc Mega props SG 1 http://sc4devotion.c...php?lotGET=1180 BSC Mega props gc http://sc4devotion.c....php?lotGET=397 BSC Textures 01 http://sc4devotion.c...c.php?lotGET=90 BSC Textures 03 http://sc4devotion.c...php?lotGET=1806 You probably have a lot of these already though. If you don't like/don't want the flags, they are added as props, so just delete the flag folder from the upload to get rid of them. Modding and lotting: T Wrecks Model by: Darn42 A special thanks goes out to the whole ST community for helping me get tribune tower done and of this quality. Very special thanks to Francis90b for setting the standard himself and not allowing me to leave anything unfixed I hoe you all enjoy this. P.S. Description may be edited in a bit depending on some stuff. Currently there is only a Darknite version, sorry maxis nite peeps. I will upload maxis version once I get the time to render it. P.S.S There's some unused props in this that I forgot to leave out, you guys can use them if you want, wasn't planning on uploading them but they are the fountain props you see in the files.

Press the icon that looks like a floppy disc in the left upper corner of the rendered frame window. It gives you the option to save the full image rather than take a screenshot. Lookin good so far!
  9. daTS's BATs [Athena Security Solutions HQ]

This looks awesome! Make sure to turn on ambient occlusion on the materials on your roof especially.

This is awesome. Thank you very much for the illustration!

I'm having a bit of a trouble with 333 Wacker. I have no clue how I'm going to lot this thing. the sides are both are 45 degree angles and the front is flat. I was going to render a second version as well where the front was 45 and the sides were flat. But I have no clue how to approach this in the first place. Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right way to a tutorial?
  12. Reddonquixote's BAT thread

I can't really speak for reddon, but for the most part, we do SD renders because HD looks out of place. It effects the quality of the zoom 5 renders in-game, and makes them look worse. The benefits they get are marginal, as well, because zoom6 is not a popular zoom in the game just because the vast majority of details are completely gone. Very small things like props are rendered HD because they really are only seen at all in that zoom level.

Sky: I changed the reflections a little so they don't end so abruptly anymore. I plan on exporting 333 wacker soon. I have the LODs exported, I just need some time to export now. As for what I've been doing, I've been hard at work on Chase Tower and I want to give you guys a taste. Note: There are no personalized textures applied yet, everything is either a flat color, or has a little bit of ambient occlusion dirt. I'm going to be doing something new for the wall bricks that hasn't been done before, I don't think, so anticipate that. Right now the grout is the wireframe projected on top. Here it is 100% remodeled from what I had before. edit: Sabretooth: That beautiful building is definitely on my radar. Expect it, not soon, but at some point in the future.

If you can get photoshop, it's the best. Gimp works in a pinch. There are lots of tutorials already out there. Just a quick google of how to texture in photoshop will get you lots of options. Inside 3ds max there are a lot of powerful options as well. Just read through some documentation and look for other sites. My favorite site for tutorials is 3dtotal.com so you can check that out. I have a tutorial of the composite map in one of my threads, This is a great option to use in addition to other methods. I usually create a series of grime maps in photoshop that I apply to the main texture through the composite map.
  15. Reddonquixote's BAT thread

Nice one! The noise textures look inflated, though. I haven't seen the real building but the noise setting is very obvious.
  16. Chicago BAT Project

    There it is.
  17. Chicago BAT Project

It was already a distant panoramic of Chicago so I'm working on that. I have a pic I can't post atm that is a render without any of the streetlights. I agree it doesn't fit atm in sc4. Reddon: I didn't use specific reflection references but the first pic you had is one of the general reflection references I used. The content of them wasn't what I was looking at but the intensity.
  18. Chicago BAT Project

It's the glare effect that is too strong. The sign itself will appear just as bright (maybe a little less) as its going to be in the final product but it's going to look a lot less bright. Right now it's dominating the whole building, which isn't good.
  19. Chicago BAT Project

Quick update with a z4: Thoughts? Jason: I just read this reply as I'm leaving. It makes sense though, but I can't think about it much atm.
  20. Chicago BAT Project

Aaron: You are right the trees in the reference are a lot brighter than the trees I have, but I didn't like how they looked when they were that vibrant in the previews. - - - - - - - And the night view rough draft. The trees in the first 2 got wonked up by something.

The motion blur is simple and procedural, and if you do it right it barely effects anything else. You can look up how to do it in more detail, but basically you just animate the fan blades rotating. Select all of the objects in your scene besides them and uncheck "enable motion blur" in their object properties rollout. Then turn on motion blur and choose your desired amount. I used 10 frames as my shutter speed. edit: motion blur is under the "renderer" tab in the render setup dialog box.
  22. Sabretooth78's Buffalo BATs

You could clear them all as well. I tend to just use smooth 30 in case theres some curved surface I don't notice. As for the extra edit poly I tend to do that whenever I make any changes. As for why it happens I don't really know. Its a very easy fix so I never bothered to find out.
  23. Chicago BAT Project

Its a script called "Atree3d" it's free at scriptspot.com Its limited in what it can do a lot of the time, and it can glitch. But given time it makes really good stuff.
  24. Chicago BAT Project

The modeling and materials themselves are, but the ground plane I would never ever use outside of Simcity anyways. I always make some modifications for the game. Like any sort of brick that I make for simcity has exaggerated grout that looks terrible up close. Btw guys, I fixed the main hvacs a little. They were already modeled pretty close to rl, but I just added some motion blur to the blades and edited materials a little bit to look better. Also, the foliage materials are much different.
