  1. Ok, I finally managed to install Daeleys DAMN + Yilds DAMN Manager, and it's working!! So finally I managed to get SC4 up and running under Linux (Ubuntu 18.04). Let me first describe my installation setup: SimCity 4 Deluxe is installed on Ubuntu 18.04 via STEAM Linux Runtime. The application directory resides under ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/SimCity 4 Deluxe/ DatPacker is installed using PlayOnLinux and therefore does not reside within the games application directory nor it's "MyDocument" directory (where you would expect all the additional stuff under Windows). In order to be able to use DatPacker, i therefore use this directory as my Plugins "work/backup" location: every plugin is installed into this directory, and datpacked there. After datpacking, I only copy the "Plugins_compressed" folder to the STEAM application directory. Daeleys DAMN is installed into the STEAM app directory using wineconsole. This is possible because Daeleys install script allows for manual entering of the installation directory. Yilds DAMN Manager is installed into above mentioned "work/backup" directory. This is because, other then Daeleys DAMN, Yilds install script only allows to select an installation directory from a "explorer" popup that does not show the linux-specific directories (like the SETAM app directory). However, this is sufficient to use the DAMN Manager and create the DAMN menu entries. In order for them to show up in-game, I'm copying them from the "work/backup" directory to the STEAM app directory (...\Plugins\DAMN\root) Now here comes the important part, that kept my busy for so long. You must not copy the whole modified DAMN\support folder into the game directory, but only the "damncontrol.dat". As long as I also copied the other additional files (damndesign.dat, News_Filter.dat) to the game directory also, the menue entries would not show up in-game (only the empty DAMN popup with the "home/back/..." buttons. So, after all, thanks for the help here :-) Now I need to find out how to use the "god mode" treebrushes once I already started to play a map tile. I think there was a way, but I've long forgotten it....
  2. Sorry if I might have been misundertood ... as I stopped playing SC4 quite a long time ago, my recent post was just about what I remember briefly from back then regarding the prop pox. And this was that PEGASUS lots (wich by then I used almost completly) seemed to be part of the problem, of course amongst others. So it's great to hear that it seems to have been narrowed down to just some files :-)
  3. Managed to run the "new" DAMN Manager (link). However, I cannot get it to show up the entries in-game ... lets see
  4. Well, the DATPacker works for me, with some workaround - I need to have all Plugins in the directory where PlayOnLinux has installed the DATPacker, since the directory cannot be changed in DATPacker. But that's ok. However, currently it seems I cannot use the SSP-Toll and it's DAMN plugin. For some reason, I cannot get the java program to run under Linux ... unless I can solve this, SC4 is basically unplayable, as it would be impossible to find all the additinal items within the standard menu. But well .. lets see.
  5. @forum admins: how about renaming this thread to something like "SC4 under Linux/STEAM" and moving it to the right place? as it ain't got something to do with the SC4Fix anymore?
  6. @Handyman I now managed to run DAMN Manager. Currently, I do have the following setup: SC4 is installed over STEAM Linux runtime. It's loacted under /home/user/.steam ... steamapps ... I have installed the DATPacker using PlayOnLinux I have all my unpacked plugins in this SC4Datpacker directory, as oterhwise DatPacker won't work Now I installed (=copied the content of the zip file) DAMN Manager into the very same directory of the SC4 DatPacker, as DAMN Manager needs to access the plugins. DAMN manager then asks for the dirctory where SC4 is installed. Unfortunately, I cannot point it to the STEAM installation, as the "Choose folder" dialog only shows "regular" linux directories, not the "system" ones (like the .*** direstories). Therefore, I copied the SimCity1.dat from the SC4 (STEAM) installation directory to the SC4 Datpacker installation directory. That way, I managed DAMN Manager to run. Now, for some reason I still have to invetigate, the DAMN menu shows no entries. It has shown the entries prior to using the DAMN Manager, but not now ... As for the DAMN Manager: I wouldn't know how to create menu entries without the DAMN Manager????
  7. SO finally SC4 is up and running under Linux at nearly 100%. Last thing that it seems I cannont overcome is the DAMN Manager. Wenn executing, it asks for the SC4 game directory. This however is located in a directory that I cannot access from the "browse folders" dialog box. Si I guess this is the last thing that I will need windows for.
  8. NAM General Support

Well, that most likely will be the case. I did a custom install of the NAM (like I did it back in the old days ;-) ), and obviously overlooked this option (and I wasn't aware of it, either). Thanks for the hint, at least now I'm sure my SC4 install isn't broken. Great community here .. whichis one of the reasons I prefer SC4 over C:S :-)
  9. Many thanks .. still got so much to learn
  10. NAM General Support

Sorry, looks like my question was not precise enough: problem is, I don't have the vanilla Highway anymore. Same for the vanilla railway. But, based on your answer, then NAM is not supposed to remove the vanilla higway from the game. So, problem must lie somwhere else.
  11. NAM General Support

Hi, as I'm atm reinstalling SC4 after some years, I wonder if i missed something in the developement of the NAM. Is the NAM supposed to replace the vanilla MAXIS highway? As after installing the NAM, I don't have a MAXIS highway, and also there no longer is a vanilla railway ...?
  12. Well, everything went fine so far, and I guess I have installed the CAM correctly now. However, once a problem is solved, the next one appears. This time it's the DAMN Menu Navigator. To refresh the menu, you need to run the indexer.cmd batch file ... which I'manaware of how to do it under Linux :-(
  13. Although this thread has been quite for some yearsnow, may I ask a question: does this fix also include the prop pox problem that has been generated by Pegasus' lots? I remember last time I played, and my city got infected, that one of the advises was to not use Pegasus' lots ..?
  14. Great. Done. This seems to make sense. I now will have my uncompressed collection of plugins in the virtual drive of the SC4DatPacker, and will only copy the compressed ones to the actual plugin directory of the STEAM installation. I will now install CAM on Windows to have it running in Linux, too. Will keep you posted about the outcome.
  15. I have to announce a big step forward. I installed NAM using my Win system and copied it to the STEAM installation, as well as the SC4Fix. Both are working now! This brings me towards the next steps. I now need to install the SC4 DatPacker, as the gane is unplayable without. Any experiences here? I already managed to install it using PlayOnLinux, but that doesn't help, as the DatPacker is looking for the Games Plugin directory in it's virtual drive, which is not there for obvious reasons.
  16. Well I'm currently setting up SC4 on my Win partition, once it runs there, I will follow rec204s advice.
  17. I'm actually not using PlayOnLinux, but the (new?) standard function of the STEAM client to play Windows games under Linux (called "Steam Linux Runtime"). But I will give it a try by the way described by you. Which leads to the next problem - installing the NAM in my environment :-) I'll keep you posted ...
  18. Yes I know, I simply wasn't sure whether "hover over the window" applies to a windows installation only. On Linux, the WIndow text shows "steam_app_24780".
  19. Hi all, I've been running C:S on Ubuntu via Linux Steam some month ago. Now, when I start C:S via Steam, it starts normally, but then takes ages to load (roughly 40 to 45 minutes), just to then either CTD or freeze after I have selected a map and hit the "New Game" button. Any ideas here? I would love to have it running on Ubuntu, as I don't want to change to Win just for playing .. Thanks, Peter
  20. Well, just tried to run it with all the mods and assets disabled, using a standard map - and it sucks :-) hangs up right after loading the city. Seems Win will remain my favorite for gaming ...
  21. Hi all, I've been quite absent to the game for some months now and I wonder if there have been any improvements to the traffic simulator? Last time I played, it was still that the Sims would always choose the shortest route available, not the less congested, which rendered e.g. overpasses and the like over congested crossings useless, as they happened to be somewhat longer than the direct way. This kind of broke the game for me finally - now I wanted to drop in and see how things developed :-) Looking forward for an update :-)
  22. Thanks, yes I'm using the TM:PE, but have really studied it's manual only yesterday, finding out that - as you said - most, if not all, issues will be solved by it. I now however face the problem of C:S loading for roughly 40 minutes, just to freeze afterwards :-) Will open a separate thread for that.
  23. How to do small ponds?

Thanks, found it by accident yesterday :-) I'm far of creating ponds, but it's just a good-to-know.
  24. Hi, I'm wondering how I can manage to put decals on top of other decals. As you can see in the picture, I have some tile decals in front of that church, now I want to put some planters for trees on top. However, the planter is placed below, so he vanishes. Same goes e.g. for parking markings and the like - they alway are hidden by the tile decal. I'm using the "Move it" mod, however the normal "page up/down" for adjusting the height wont work here. Any help appreciated :-)
  25. Thanks for your hints .. actually, Im doing this In-Game, not in the Asset editor. Is there an advantage by doing this in the asset editor? Apart from making it easy ploppable, but with regard to the maximum prop number possibly?
