Also, as already posted, make sure the name of the city is not in the image file link. This is not guessing, this is reight-clicking the image and reading the name...

Try to zone only 1x1 and 1x2 residential tiles. High wealth buildings don't grow on those.

I don't mind them releasing the German/French edition first, but why release it in those languages in the Netherlands? Nobody here wants to play their games in German or French. I'll be waiting for the English version to hit the shelves.

#9 Strandsted Beach District teaser. A metropolis getting shape.
Rigga posted a City Journal entry in Chutao Delta
Remeber the planned overview I showed a couple pages back? Well, this developing city (Strandsted) is the rightmost blue area. It's large downtown area, stretching from the beach to north of the highway interchange, is nearing completion. Still lots of work needs to be done, suburbs need to be built etc. To keep you warm, I've made a nice mosaic teaser of the Strandsted Beach District. A really nice district, with an avenue surrounded by skyscrapers, most of them businesses, but also hotels and appartment buildings. And of course the beach! I tried to make a breathable district: lots of parks and lots of space between the buildings. On a side note: ALL buildings are grown, I didn't plop any of the large skyscrapers, because IMO that's fake. Of course the buildings like schools, police etc are plopped. The second and last teaser, just to show you what I mean by lots of parks, the Strandsted Central Park, also located in this district. You can see the small soccer stadium in both pictures. Thanks for your attention and until next time! -

Here's downtown Oceantown. Not a very impressive downtown size-wise, but a nice small downtown of a small peninsular city, located on the Mestina peninsular. It is also one of the cities of my CJ

#5 Welcome to Islandia. Financial center with airport.
Rigga posted a City Journal entry in Chutao Delta
Welcome to Islandia! This group of islands is an important commercial center for the region. The small portion that is the mainland area of this municipality has an airport, of which the runway extends on reclaimed land. Not too far from the airport you can find the Jackson Port (Remember from Jackson City?). Islandia City is made up from several bridge connected islands, one ferry connected island and a small portion of the mainland. The four bridge connected islands are, from north to south: Nisla, which is actually a peninsular, Minica, which has some commercial buildings and the cities trash boat facility, Buchery, a very expensive island to live on and finally Deslus, which has a booming economy right now. The island not connected by any bridges is Isle of Jackson, famous for where Jackson first landed when he came to settle in this area. On the mainland we find New Portville, a residential and commercial area next to the airport, the harbor and the old village Portville. Here you can see the bridge connected islands. The first island to be inhabited was Nisla. Buchery was next: a few wealthy Islandiars got together and decided to build their dreamhouses on the island. After the airport was built, commercial demand skyrocketed, and because of that, residential demand did as well. Deslus was quickly connected by a bridge and the island was quickly inhabitated, which explaines the grid-like streets: it was the quickest way to build as many buildings as possible. After the island was finished, traffic on the bridges between the islands got busier and some smart entrepeneurs built some offices on the island connecting Nisla and Buchery. Next stop: Isle of Jackson. This little island is believed to be the first piece of land in the area that Jackson set foot on. That's basically all the history it has, because he never built anything there. Nobody knows why the island is inhabited, as it is only accessible by ferry and really small. Some people claim the people that live there are part of a strange sect, because people rarely travel to and from the island. Islandia and Jackson were steadily growing, so the small landingstrip in Jackson City wasn't big enough to answer to the rising demand. The Islandia Peninsular was chosen as the best location for a new airport, because of it's water-surrounded character. In the future, expansion is possible in the eastern direction by reclaming the land between the peninsular and the Hutchville municipality, seen on the right in the picture. The airport has three terminals: the large, international terminal, the national terminal further south and the southernmost terminal is the business terminal where people can board their private jets. New Portville is, just like Deslus, a commercial and residential area built as quickly as possible. It also houses the Portville University. Thanks for your attention. Now let's go back to our hotel in downtown Nisla. -
You should try to get the people from the other city to ente this city via the highways (I see the highways are connected as well?). You could do this by making access to the highway in the other city easier and/or by placing a toll-booth on the avenue in the other city. Hope this helps

As promised yesterday, I'll show Oceantown today. I have been quite busy building a nice business district today and I hope you like what it's become. Oceantown is supposed to become the suburbs of the island metropolis to be built. As you can see, Oceantown is built on several peninsulars and islands. The largest is called Mestina. The smaller one is Ameba and the smallest is the Ocean Harbor. The small patch of land between Mestina and Ameba is a small part of Foresia. Let's take a look at the Ocean Harbor. With industry booming in Foresia, the Chutao government decided that another port must be built. Their eye caught the little island off the coast of Ameba. It was decided that this island would house a large port and that the rest of the island would be industrial land. The island is connected to Ameba via road and rail. Ameba was the first island to be populated. A few patches of commercial strips provided jobs and stopped Oceantowners from having to go to Foresia for their supplies. Nothing really exciting actually. Outrfinal stop: Mestina. This will be the heart of Oceantown. It offers offices, shops, schools, a college a museum, a hospital, a large library, fire department, police station etc etc. But best of all: Feld Park. A nice open spaceous park to relax. And of course the Ocean Lake Marina. The body of water in the almost surrounded by Mestina is often referred to as Ocean Lake. Hope you enjoyed this update! Please give some feedback

Let's see where we are going. I've made a rough outline of what I want to make of this part of the region. The southwestern part is supposed to become the central part of a large metropolis, with the blue parts high-density development with CBD's and highrise apartment buildings. Red is highway, grey avenue and black rail. As you can see, there has been quite some development south of Hutchville: Foresia and Oceantown. These are large suburbs, consisting mostly of single homes, clean industries and local businesses. Let's take a look at Foresia first. The Foresia area houses 16115 sims, who mainly work in high-tech industrial parks in around the city. Let's see how the town started out. As you can see, the goal is to keep an open, quiet feel to the town. Let's have a look around the town as it is right now. First, a nice overview, showing the different locations of the town. As you can see, Foresia has 8 medium wealth neighbourghoods (Rectan, Trian, Meers, Johns, Canali, Kike, Spore and Shelton), 1 rich neighbourhood (La Richesse), two high-tech indutrial parks (Foresia Tech and Silicon) and one dirty indutry park (Carbon Field). Lots of parks can be found in the town, the largest being John's Park, which houses the John College, John Church, John Water Tower and the Foresia Sports Park. There are two high schools (Meers and Kike), three passenger train stations (Carbon Field, Spore and Downtown) and a university (Foresia Tech University). Let's have a closer look at some of the neighbourhoods. This is La Richesse. As more and more high-tech industry was coming to the town, demand for high-wealth housing started to emerge. This is what Foresia decided to do with that demand. West of La Richesse, we find Foresia Tech. When the Foresia University of Technology was founded, it attracted many high-tech businesses, that could benefit from the research going on at the university. Next up: John's Park and Downtown. John's Park is the largest park in the city. It's got the John's Church, John's Water Tower and the Pete's Chapel on it. Many Foresians come to relax in this park during nice summer days. Downtown is what you would expect from a suburbs of a large metropolis: mid-sized office buildings and department stores, located next to the H1 and the train station, connecting it to Oceantown, Hutchville and the to be built metropolis. This is the second largest park in the city, located in Johns: Chillfield. A simple grass field with some trees, a walking trail and a small pond is mostly used for picknicks. Occasionally the city allows events to take place at this field. Small concerts, open-air cinema, circus, carnival etc. Last, but not least, Silicon. This was the first high-tech park in town. Many people were working at the Carbon Field facilities, but as the town grew, people realised that more people ment more industry and more industry ment more pollution. Because of this, City Hall decided to invest in education to attract high-tech, clean industry, with Silicon as a result. A while later, the Chutao governement offered to build a research facility in Silicon. This meant a large boost in the high-tech sector in the town. Now it's off to bed. Tomorrow I'll show Oceantown with it's industrial harbor when I get home from work!

Finally a new update! After having a few important deadlines at the uni I now have had the time to make a new update. Islandia really benefits from the airport being so close by. Tourists are coming into the city and the mayor decided that those tourists should have something nice to see. He therefor ordered a marina and a boardwalk to be constructed. A marina on the shore of Deslus and a boardwalk on the shore of New Portville. Enjoy! First up: New Portville. The boardwalk adds a nice touch to the neighbourhood, which lies right next to the airport. Included in the boardwalk are the Lighthouse Museum and the Chez Port restaurants pier. Next up: Delsus Marina. A large piece of land was reclaimed to make the jagged edges of this island straight. This results in a nice, large marina with boardwalks, parks and restaurants.A large hotel (very originally named Deslus Marina Hotel) just opened up.

Thanks all! For the roof texture: I don't remember where I got it (found it on some free texture site) PM me if you want it. As for the architectural side: floors are 3 meters each and yes, functionally it isn't that great of a building, but I see more and more of these kind of buildings that don't seem to be that practicle :P BTW: I now see the scaling tutorial on the forum, I'll keep that in mind for a next BAT ;)

My very first attempt at making a SimCity4 custom lot! Included in the zip are 4 lots with the same building. Both lots are growable. No dependencies! Slides Corporation Slides Corporation is a CO$$ building providing 350 jobs. It has 2 different lots; one 2x4 and one 3x4. Slides Company Slides Company is a CO$$$ building providing 250 jobs. It has 2 different lot; one 2x4 and one 3x4. Just delete (or don't) the company or lots you don't want. -
Europe vs America vs Asia vs Oceania
Rigga replied to jere90's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I live in Delft, a really old University city in the Randstad in the Netherlands. I've seen quite some places around the globe and totally loved all of them, but somehow the only place I'd move to outside of the Netherlands is Stockholm, Sweden. I really like the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity there. Also the people there are really nice and I love the language! I really wouldn't want to live in Asia, the Mediterranean people are too uncalm for my likings and I don't like the American way of living, with the abnormal amounts of food and the extreme lazyness (drive-thru ATM's?). Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are the acceptable countries for me. -
It took me a while to realise what was missing to make it look realistic, but I think I found it. I only see the same buildings over and over again for multiple blocks. Granted, this is what old French cities look like, but they also have something you don't have: lots of parks and plazas! Also, you should add some churches, as you see a lot of them in cities IRL like these as well. As for the modern buildings: it does look a bit out of place, because all the medium density buildings are old and the high density are brand new. To add a bit of realism, try to find some modern wall2wall buildings to place in you neighbourhoods. Modern buildingsin these neighbourhoods aren't that strange (just look at Paris with the Montparnasse tower and the Centre Pompidou). Also, the solar power plant seems a bit out of place there, as they'd normally be somewhere without buildings around it. As for the canals: they look super! Contrary to Houston_Fan, I do like those partial roundabout things. Oh, another tip: there are W2W police stations and firehouses available on the stex, they would look great in your city! Looks like I'm very negative, but I'm not! Looks like your having a good start, just want to give some tips to get it to look real. Keep up the good work, I'm curious how this will work out for you!

Nice looking seawalls you got there! Looks quite realistic IMO. Here a small island from my CJ. This is the Isle of Jackson

Mosaic made today for my CJ "Chutao Delta". This mosaic covers an entire large city tile from south to north.
-
Looks nice and realistic so far! I'm especially curious about Pellew!
-
I can see you've put a lot of effort into this CJ. It looks amazing! One question though: did you plop most of the buildings or did it actually grow?
-
Looks totally awesome! Although maybe you could've made it look even more realistic by tuning down that blur mode ;) Especially the region overview is stunning.
