  1. Thoughts on Life.

For people with depression like me, the words, "the meaning of life" start a neurological chain reaction, sending my thought train through the tracks of a killer roller coaster, stopping just in time to let me catch my breath...that is, when I'm in a mood swing. Luckily for you, I'm not in one so you'll be spared my despairing, depressing remarks, maybe. But getting to it, I think the reason why we're all here will be one question which cannot be answered by a single statement. One day, be it December 21, 2012, in 2200 or 3500, the world as we know it may come to an end. Armageddon or the second coming may occur. Aliens may come to attack or develop relations with us. The meaning of life may be to live up to or through this day, to conquer evil or survive a catastrophe, but none shall know until that happens. So until then we wait. We wait for something we're not sure is ever going to happen. To many, including myself, living just to live seems wasteful. I have a very privileged life, and I'm sure the attention given to me could be applied to save dozens of homeless or diseased children from Africa or Asia. For me to live just to live, without purpose, is like boiling water, not knowing if you're ever going to cook anything with it (probably a bad analogy, but that's the first thing that popped into my head). The energy could be put to something I know I'm going to use. Some may say only people with low self esteem feel like they are wasted space, which I tend to agree with slightly. To be honest, I don't think I'm wasted space at all...But the point is that people need focus; they need a goal to reach. Religion offers the ultimate action plan for some. If you live a pure life, you will be rewarded in the end. People look to the future for gratification. Many, myself included, work best when under a deadline. In this instance, the deadline is death. Where many disagree, though, is what one must do to reach this deadline. For some it may be to investigate the science behind the universe, as BlondeTwiggy said. But I think there is no mathematical explanation. It is all determined by your values. If you value wealth, then you must become financially succesful. If you respect and find faith in mankind, then your destiny may be to have children and propel the race. Maybe you value others more than yourself and dedicate your life to service of the disadvantaged. For those who find no meaning in life, there is left the ultimate sacrifice. I guess all I'm trying to say is that it is up to you, and you only to determine what the MOL is. *Yawn* *Stretch* *Rub eyes* https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=148&threadid=83063&enterthread=y https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=148&threadid=83063&enterthread=y *Look at watch and read 3:15 A.M.* Well I hope I didn't bore you too much. G'night
  2. The Simtropolis Closet

Congratulations on opening up Psycho_Teddy!, I can only imagine how hard it must of been to live with that secret for that long. There have been some issues with close friends/families of mine so I can almost understand. My aunt's husband left her and their four kids after he realized he was gay. I'm not sure how long he knew, but I feel really bad for him as well as his kids. I think he did the right thing in not covering it up any longer, even though my cousins must feel really strange knowing their birth father is homosexual. A couple months ago, my best friend who is pretty shy (although not as shy as me lol) started asking out a girl from school. We both find it difficult to find hopeful relationships (guy friends or girlfriends) because 90% of the pop. is arrogant, stuck-up, and prejudice, sexist, homophobic, etc...lol, but anyway, he really connected with this girl, but she would never go out with him. She made normal excuses after a while and then finally said that her parents wouldn't let her date until she was 17 or 18. So my friend waited until then and tried again. Finally she told him that she is a lesbian. I guess she's been keeping it from most of her friends, and even her dad! But boy was my friend crushed when he found that out...so I guess it can actually hurt NOT to tell too. Well that's just some of my experiences. I've had some good gay friends and bad ones, just like any other person. G-L-B-T find out what they can do for me! C-A-R-E Care, Accept, Respect in Ernest ...that was just some dumb little blip I typed out....
  3. The SimTropolis House of Worship

Personally, my mom came from a liberal Christian family (don't even know what denomination :? and my dad came from a liberal Jewish family (although that's pretty redundant jk's, jk's...I consider myself to be culturally from both religions, and enjoy the history and, well, deep culture that each provides. This also leads me to think and realize that all religions are equal and that following any of them can help lead you to a decent life if not performed in excess. In terms of faith, though, I find myself secular. To be honest I think all religion is a combination of conspiracy created on fear by power-hungry dictators, as well as a general explanation of the unknown (like quantum theory), but that doesn't stop me from admiring the complexity and evolution of this fascinating aspect of human consciousness.
  4. Question about Modern schools

I just graduated from a large high school (about 2400 students) in Austin, Texas, and chalkboard/dry erase use is mixed. As a senior my middle-aged Physics teacher used dry erase (he only used the smelly ones because he says they erase better =0 . He also says he can't smell them anymore lol). He is fairly new to the school I think but not to teaching. My older-ish Calculus teacher uses chalkboard. He's been here since the start of the school in 83'. My Economics teacher uses/d chalk...he's been teaching here a while...and same with my Gov't and English teacher. My younger-ish Computer Science teacher uses dry erase. So basically I think it depends on how old the teacher/school are. Older teachers who are used to the chalkboards still use them unless the dry erase is already installed in the classroom (like for my Physics teacher). Younger departments like Comp. Sci. with younger teachers I guess want to upgrade. Come to think of it the high school I went to for 9th, 10th grade in Massachusetts was mixed like that, and it only had 700 students. It was built in the mid-eighties too. ...And that's just my thoughts spilling out .:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:.:`:
  5. Bernie Mac Dies

A sad day for fellow comedians and fans. That's scary that he died so young and from pneumonia RIP
  6. Madison Square Garden

Oh well. I was excited to see this project completed but I understand that doing something once is most often enough ("Hmm what's in this file? Oh well I'm tired..." *DELETE*). Thanks for listening to our input and giving it a go. All the ones you've completed are fantastic! Pink Floyd will still live on in our hearts! ROCK ON!
  7. BLaM Barneys Lamp and Match Factory

It's nice to have industry that doesn't look like it just came out of someone's nose :*...great fresh building for manufacturing! And RIP Onlyplace4
  8. BLaM Rainbow Tower

Lighting would look great in a dense Asian city. Awesome twisting action!
  9. Spirulina Farms

"Spirulina is blue-green micro-algae, sold as hygienic food, dietary supplement and astronaut food." Sounds like Soylient green to me too. This'll be great for my people-farm district muwahahahah. Btw looks really good!
  10. FF MEB Dohahomes

    Great variety work!
  11. NESCO Hennepin County Government Center

    Nice work on the atrium!
  12. ModdSquad Safety

    Nice!
  14. Greenland 2112 AD

It's sad thinking that's probably what Greenland will look like in 105 years...maybe even just 30 years...dang Global warming...nice map btw
  15. Madison Square Garden

Hmm I suppose pink lights would work but if that's too similar to purple maybe alternating pink and some other color would look even better. I'll let you use some judement on it if you don't mind lol. If it's possible for the query sound that would be great to have the opening clip of a PF song like Another Brick in the Wall or Money (the cash register sounds) I''m probably incabable of finding/uploading anything but if you could find something that would be awsome.
  16. Who You Gonna Call

Ooh it makes me wanna sing the song....This is sweet I can let loose a robot or Autosaurus Rex and send in the Ghostbusters!!! I can stage the third movie right in my city! Cool Idea!
  17. Padrao dos Descobrimentos

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L...The accuracy and detail is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G...Awsome job!
  18. Shenzhen Special Zone Press Tower

Looks like a model done by a professional, even someone on the Maxis team :) It actually reminds me of a Maxis design in the game, maybe on Houston set? I forget what it's called though. This seems like a more futuresque updated version of it. Great lot-looks like you've been practicing in GMAX awhile. I give 10/10 especially for it being your first
  19. Madison Square Garden

Yay, thanks! I think the first poster would be really good on the stadium and if there's room for another poster then the last one would look good too. Thanks again, I think this idea for personalized models is great!
  20. Madison Square Garden

I third the request by 830point35 and euphonial to have a Pink Floyd version. Especially with the recent passing of Syd Barrett. This building would be a perfect commemoration. Here's a good concert poster, a group photo a wall poster maybe, a tourbus photo, some writing, and the lighting (The Madonna ones work OK I think). Heres also a Division Bell Poster and and Oakland Coliseum pig poster. It would be awsome if you could make either the division bell or pig the statue in front of the building but that would probably be really hard. If you can't make it a statue then could you put the pig poster on the other wall? This would be soooo sweet to have in my Cleveland City right next to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame! I would appreciate it if you found time for this and keep up the good work!
  21. Burj Dubai Construction

Awsome lot and very realistic! Love the construction. However, since this building will be so massively huge it'll take a few more years in RL until it's completed (I think the estimated year is 2010? or maybe that's for the new WTC). Anyway, by the time it's done and ready to be built, my city will be like five years old real time lol and I'll have probably forgotten about it :p
  22. Bahrain WTC

Sorry have to add--the N.Y. W.T.C. will be very similar to this with the sleekish glass design and wind power. I would love to see that as a model-once it's built of course.
  23. Bahrain WTC

WOW great work and detail! I love the choice model design--those windmills are awsome
  24. Public safety budget - please help

(I know you're all probably long gone by now but-) scoobsuk- about your problem of the "ghost" of the building still showing up even after you destroy it--it may finally disappear if you use the dezone tool. I know this sounds weird on a non-zonable building but some custom buildings remain even after you destroy them and the only way to get rid of them is to dezone them. Too bad you bombed your city but maybe if it happens again you or someone else can try it...
  25. Residential and plaza textures missing

I'm was having this exact problem after I've downloaded a bunch of stuff and props and textures went missing. After reading this post I just went into game and noticed the graphics levels somehow got put way down. I'm wondering if it was done automatically because the downloads were taking up too much CPU, because my game was slow for a while. Well after setting the levels to normal (from low to medium), I went back into the game and guess what? It's fixed! A little laggy, but it's much better now
