  1. Grid secrets: a tutorial CJ

Exact number of tiles in a large city? 256 X 256 Everything is divisible by eight (just like RAM memory sticks or video cards, clever Maxis). I presume this is why you use 6X6 blocks. On a large city, I have often tried to use eight 32X32 avenue blocks divided into smaller road blocks. Been fairly successful but never had a megacity. That block size is too large.
  2. Suggestions on possible grid layout for my city.

I do not claim to be a great city designer by any means (which should be clear since I've never posted a city journal or made any great lots). But I tend to use grids with variations, because I think having a basic grid layout can allow you to plan better and embellish. Making cities in SC4 is a art form, and with any art - music, writing, etc. - you have got to follow and master the rules before you can break away into your own individual embellishments. Let the grid be your rule for the art form, but once you've got the pattern down, you can break loose from it more often to create areas of beauty and individuality. Take a great jazz musician, for instance. There might seem to be chaos in what they are playing (and there can be some chaos), but there is always an underlying pattern.
  3. Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store

Good job. I like Piggly Wiggly. I raised a pig as a child. Then we ate him.
  4. Shmails Tobacco Farm Set

Also, now someone needs to make a cigarette factory that REDUCES the health level of your cities, but provides a big boost in tax income.
  5. Shmails Tobacco Farm Set

Cool. I actually grew up on a tobacco farm, and I was hoping someone would make a lot like this. The tobacco plants even look pretty realistic, but it's not necessary to have scarecrows in a tobacco field, LOL.
  6. Food Lion Grocery Store

Nice. I grew up with Food Lions in my area. BTW that's the chain that sued ABC some years back for having reporters pose as employees for a story on unsanitary food-handling practices.
  7. Shmails Symphony Space

Nice addition to any arts/entertainment complex.
  8. Bransfield House

I've been hoping for more high-capacity, plobbable R$ buildings. Could you also make some that aren't slummy? Not knocking this nice creation, though.
  9. Official BAT Request Thread

This may have been posted already, but I'd like for someone to make some decent-looking, ploppable, low-wealth high-rises. I'm tired of seeing that ugly, brown high-rise pop up in my cities, and I'd like to be able to plop an attractive low-wealth high-rise to replace it. It doesn't have to be gorgeous, but it should be a building that at least isn't an eyesore, and something that can relieve some of the ridiculously high demand for low-wealth residents. Maybe some of these buildings have already been made, but I haven't seen any.
  10. JENX Michelstadt timber frame house

O.K. Something screwed up when I tried to rate this building a 10. Hope I didn't drag down the score.
  11. JENX Michelstadt timber frame house

These buildings add a lot of character to the game. Thanks for making them.
  12. The Pantheon

Nice! More classical buildings would be great.
