    User Feedback

Ok Im not trying to be negative about any other city simulation game to "preserve" Cities XL or anything but seeing that video I still got one feeling:

    That game sucks!!!! :P

Sorry but it looks so childish and still the graphics are very cartoonish and childish, its seems to aim for younger people to me, it just doesnt feel like your going to build a real city.

Also the concept of the gameplay doesnt suit me, it seems very SCS / City Life to me, which was exactly what got me disgusted in city simulation games.

This game seems to me more concentration on keeping energy sources up and dealing with environment as said before on this thread.

And those Simcorp stuff that the were planting down in the video, another silly idea for unrealistic city building.

I might still change my mind in the future if they show more but for now after seeing the video I am more convinced that Cities XL is still a lot better then the upcoming SC5.

Quite dissapointed with seeing these in-game video shots...

Guys, if your looking for a decent realistic city building game please check out Cities XL, it has a lot of new mods, just look at what the community is doing with Cities XL now, please give it a shot, you wont regret!

    - Modding tools (create any kind of model, object, building, car, pedestrian,...

    - Big transportation mods (trams, roads, pedestrian paths, bicycle paths, road parking, parking lots, upcoming trains mod, ferrys, surfing, boat transports,...)

    - Enhanced mapping tools! (recently discovered a way to add extra maps in-game instead of replacing existing maps with an all new extensive mapping tutorial!)

    - New User Interface (huge mod giving complete rework on interface giving a lot more possibilites and subdivisions!

    - New extensive gameplay mods! (big mods changing gameplay and features extensively to give you more possibilities!!)

    - Community alive and kicking (more n more modders n players each day!)

    - more then 100-150 mods already available, with 4-5 new mods every week and growing!

    - + a lot a lot more please give it a shot!

    - Beautifull City Journals have been made, not only crazy cities but also very details, micro-managed realistic cities!

visit www.xlnation.net for more ideas about mods, tutorials, cities

visit Cities XL Video Channel to view videos about released mods, tutorials and more!

I promise you, Cities XL 2012 goes a lot further then Simcity 4 Deluxe, thats a promise!

Also I dont mean to be a spammer, I just want people to inform what is possible with Cities XL now because we all want to play the best available city simulation game and therefor you should know about what's going on! :)

Nope, Nope, Nope. Why not actually build on the success of Simcity 4, instead of stealing ideas from others (Cities XL). I would have liked some Multiplayer action, like Simcity 2000 Network Edition, but having a stand alone produce would have been nice too.

There should be a multiplayer disc and a singleplayer disc (excuse me for my lack of willingness to convert to digital distribution), zones are a must, and there should be a med-high range of detail on the buildings which look realistic. Sim City 4's only set back was it's restriction to the grid. EA would be laughing if they realized that they could make Sim City 4 again without the grid (+ a few GUI, stability, and camera upgrades) and it would be incredibly successful. My justification is that we all see SC4 as our benchmark, and EA/Monte Cristo have taken a radical approach and developed a different game, if they were to reproduce Sim City 4 Deluxe with a native RHW/NAM without the radical changes (keeping the SC4 buildings and allowing BAT transfers would be a massive bonus) they would find more success and a greater appreciation from the city building community (the current customers) instead of seeking to set new market trends without the communities backing.

What about the map size? The transport network? The new features?

    I don't care about multilayer!

The video lets a bad impression of the gameplay (ploppable gamestyle, scale, lack of simulation,...), not to mention the cartoonish style.

Things that worry me so far: There's nothing mentioned about transportation networks, except "curvy roads" and "online only" probably means that there is a set of terrains you can play on, i.e. you can't terraform your own terrain.

    This really sounds bad.

i dont belive this... you can play only online?

simcity 5 is then to forget .. I've been waiting a long time to see the event, and when it comes time features of the game, online-only. I just closed the portable and went to lie down because I'm very disappointed with the maxis .... Example, world have 500,000 players on simcity 4, 5 in city but i think 10,000 will be play ..

I played this game when I went to go in my village, and i haven't internet in village. Always played simcity4 on single-player. Now this is possible I have to share my city with other players online?

    Maxis fail, sure

    (sry for bad english)

Calm down guys, You've misread the way it's written.

It's not "Online Only" It's the first time Simcity has had a full multiplayer option, EG/ Optionally Playing online or offline.

The FAQ at simcity.com (http://www.simcity.com/en_US/faq) it says the following on What's the difference between The Sims and SimCity?:

"SimCity is a city-building simulation that lets you create the cities that you desire. Gameplay is focused on the choices you make and how they shape your city and power the Sims within it. Invest in heavy industry and your economy will soar—but at the expense of your Sims’ health as pollution spreads. Implement green technology and improve your Sims’ lives while risking higher taxes and unemployment. SimCity is a multiplayer game while The Sims is a single-player experience."

It clearly says what SimCity will focus on, however, it might have a singleplayer mode but that will probably only be used as a tutorial for multiplayer. That's my guess any way.

Battlefield 3 is also "Online Only" meaning it requires a connection to battlelog in order to play, even the campain.

Settlers 7, which also has a campain and skirmisch option, requires you log onto Ubisoft before it starts up. Unplayable without a connection.

I think the Online only part emplies this to SC5 aswell

@derwilly: easily moddable. What's important is the core mechanics, and the overall graphical feel of the game.

And watch the Insider's Look video, the bald Asian guy there was working on what I believe is an actual underdeveloped gameplay footage. Which looked similar to the trailer imo.

@Decius: You can still play BF3 solo campaign without an internet connection though (hence why there are cracks availible for it that work, you don't need internet for solo. I bet SC5 devs will go the same way EA did with BF3, where there will be a disk for online and a disk for solo play.

I was getting all excited seeing the level of detail in the trailer, but when I saw the two Maxis guys talking about the gameplay my hopes completely fell. As everyone says, we want a simulator, not a game based on conflict. Multiplayer is all well and good for those who like it, but I just like a little sandbox to play around in at the end of the day!
