Update 46 1884 Previously on New SorGun… The system that has kept New SorGun moving forward is hitting a few bumps on the road. Kitty Timworthy has brought together a coalition of various groups with the sole interest of bringing down Eastman T. Finch and the other elites who run the town… While Kitty’s movement was gaining momentum, Finch and his supporters couldn’t seem to catch a break. The recession of 1882 was beginning to be felt in New SorGun. A number of businesses were shutting their doors for good and the current leaderships promises of growth and prosperity began falling on deaf ears. Kitty saw the shifting momentum as a sign that her cause was just, but something happened on November 23, 1883 that even she couldn’t believe. After many previous attempts, the Territorial Legislature finally passed a bill that gave women the right to vote. Only the Wyoming and Utah territories had enacted women’s suffrage prior to the Washington territory. Finally, Kitty and the rest of her sisters would have the same voice in the polling booths as their husbands, brothers and fathers. Almost immediately, Kitty was approached by a number of supporters begging her to run for Mayor in next year’s election. It was no secret that Mayor Walker, now almost 70, was stepping down after almost two decades of service to the little frontier town. In that time, Walker had seen New SorGun grow from a few shops along Main Street, to a lively commercial center. (animation) Until now, folks didn’t give too much thought as to who would replace the well-loved retiring mayor, but with the events of the past few years it became apparent that the future of their town could hinge on the upcoming election. As winter gave way to the spring of 1884, Kitty finally caved to the pressure and announced her candidacy for Mayor as the ‘Peoples Candidate’. (click for full) There was an immediate wave of excitement throughout town. Suddenly, disenchanted groups of citizens finally felt they had a real representative who would fight for their interests. Women, workers, prohibitionists and other groups from across the political spectrum all celebrated the possibility of capturing the highest political position in the region. However, not everyone was leaping on ‘The Peoples’ bandwagon. Some of Kitty’s supporters, including the Knights of Labor held a spiteful reputation for rabble-rousing and causing trouble. Many in town, including business owners, investors, farmers and others feared ‘The Peoples’ ticket and the harm they could do to New SorGun by pursuing their reforms. Despite what many of Kitty’s supports claimed, New SorGun had achieved amazing growth and prosperity under the guidance of the businessmen who made up the current political administration in town. (click for full) After Kitty’s announcement, the business leaders in New SorGun realized they would need to nominate a strong candidate to have any chance of retaining the mayor’s seat. A number of names were batted around, but in the end only one man had the charisma, expertise and popularity to challenge the People’s Ticket. “Mr. Finch, some gentlemen are here to see you…” Eastman T. Finch was reluctant at first. Politics usually made his skin crawl and he always managed to keep his distance from the ‘great circus,’ as he usually called it. But he had seen first had what a savage band of citizens could do, and he was fearful of the ‘People’s Ticket’ and their agenda. When Finch faced a difficult decision, he was in the habit of reaching out to his good friend Anthony S. Myers. Myers always knew that he was more of a sounding board to Finch’s thoughts and rarely had any meaningful sway in his decision making process, but it suited Myers just fine – he actually enjoyed his friends company. On a beautiful spring morning, the two men met by the docks, which was Finch’s favorite place to be in New SorGun. (click for full) Finch sighed as he leaned over to feed the birds, “I've never enjoyed politics… I’d much rather create something with my own to hands than step into that mud pit.” Anthony Myers laughed as he looked out on the harbor, “Your suits are too nice to be soiled in mud. I don’t blame you for staying out of the fray.” Eastman gave a smirk. “Besides, I’ve never seen a politician build anything but their own ego,” Mr. Myers continued. “Unfortunately, my friend, I don’t think we can build our way out of this one,” said Finch sullenly. Myers listened to the gulls circling above docks. “The thought of a free meal sure whips them into a frenzy…” Finch sighed, “Yes, the gulls are similar to people in that respect…” “Perhaps, but some would say birds are more civilized,” replied Myers. Finch watched quietly as the seagulls clashed over the last crumbs of bread. A week later Finch held a gathering of his friends and associates next to the new town hall, which was still under construction. “My friends,” Finch began, “thank you for coming. As we stand here today, we can look across this marvelous patch of land and be proud of our little town. I first stepped foot on Yarahi’s pier nearly twenty years ago – I still remember the day fondly. It was only a few shops and houses then, but New SorGun was bustling with energy, and it electrified me. Today that energy continues to build and together we have erected a shining beacon that illuminates the region.” Finch paused as the gathered crowd nodded and clapped in approval “Now, Most of you know that I have little patience for politics, but I believe we have come to a crossroads,” Finch continued. “There are some who believe our great achievements are not worth the price and everything we have built constitutes a sin against man.” There were grumbles of disapproval from the crowd. “I, however, will not be shamed into exodus,” Finch bellowed. “I hold my head high and look around this great town with pride in my heart. I accept your nomination and on Election Day I hope to humbly stand before you as the next mayor of this exceptional town.” Anthony Myers clapped loudly in approval along with entire crowd. He believed in his friend and his principles, but he couldn’t escape the worrying feeling that had been nagging him since Finch informed him of his intention to run. Anthony knew Finch would be a highly capable Mayor, that much was certain, but Myers understood his friend better than most, and deep down he was worried that a highly public and vicious campaign would break Finch. His friend’s public persona was always steadfast, but behind closed doors Eastman Finch would brood and fret over personal attacks and unflattering gossip. Myers could only hope that Eastman would grow a tougher hide over the coming months, otherwise he feared what would become of his friend. (click for full) I want to send a special ‘thank you’ to C.P. for graciously allowing me use some of his unreleased 19th century models. These will be popping up in New SorGun with more regularity in the future. If you have a second, I would strongly recommend taking a look at his BAT thread over at SC4Devotion – its chock full of amazing SC4 treats. Replies to the last Teaser... Thanks - we haven't seen the last of unruly crowds yet ModyMentos: Can't wait for the next update, and its will be the 100 one !!! Hope you enjoyed it - I will try to do something special for the 50th full update nas786: This is amazing. I am learning some american history as I read through these entries lol. Some new interchanges from me, most of them are standard designs. Sorry, no grandes complications today. Normally not really a fan of cloverleaves because of the weaving, I nonetheless like the design of them. So here we go: Not quite as symmetrical as before, but this one is completely de-weaved instead: A 2-quadrant cloverstack with a narrow footprint. Not meant for heavy traffic though: Diagonal Pinavia style: A simple T-interchange that I like for its FARHW branch: While we are at FA: Not a full interchange this time, but a junction with a local network: And last but not least, a windmill:

mmm.. ok.. just one more ...and anyone who hates BATed ground and lots, look away now, this will tip you over the edge Elavery - no, I don't think lotters can add people to this BAT, I thought you could only add props to lots? There won't be any lot with this BAT, its effectively a W2W. However, I can add tourists into the BAT: Odainsaker: Great images Your post has prompted me that I haven't included any of the touristy stuff around the viewing platform.. so as well as a bank of lights and tourists, I've added tourist information boards, commemorative plaques, rubbish bins and directional signs. Hopes this helps to give it a bit more of a lived-in look. Not everyone is going to like the BATed people frozen in time.. let me know what you think? Ps. Thanks everyone who has commented so far Edit: Here's a couple of in-game shots as well. (The statue is rendered separately as a prop)

Ok, a serious post this time. Here's an updated day render and new night render. I'm trying to go for that ethereal glow the statue seems to have at night. The problem is the flood lights are coming out of nowhere. I haven't quite worked out what to do about this. I don't want to put those ugly banks of stadium lights like in RL and I don't really have room for it on the lot anyway. I might just put in some large spotlights so its not completely devoid of a light source. Twrecks - that sounds like more effort than I can be bothered with . If someone knows how to do this and wants to help with modding then please let me know Edit: Another option might just be to release the statue and plinth as a standalone separate BAT. Lotters can do what they like with it then

In the effort to combat the glut of 3x2 office buildings that seem to plague our downtown commercial business districts, I've been turning my thoughts toward that task. I have kicked a few around in my fleeting moments of free time, but this little fellow is the first to make it through the majority of modelling and texturing. There are a few more 2x2 ones for me to finish...mostly ones that I didn't want to tackle the nightlighting...

Mymyjp: Thanks and I hope you enjoy the growth of the region. Entry 2: Mount Hayley Right, welcome back. Today were heading north from our small town to take a look at the centre of the island, which as you can see fromt his image is dominated by a very obvious landmark. This would be Mt Hayley. Named after the local resident Hayley Keaton, when she decided to drunkedly make a bet that she could easily be the first person to scale it. This, she amazingly enough (given that she still very drunk when she set off) managed to do leaving a very impressed Mayor Poppins to name the the landmark after her. Rather ironically however Hayley had sobered up considerably by the time she'd reached the summit and upon looking down remembered she was terrified of heights and had to be rescued by some more experienced climbers before she could make her descent, hence why you can see emergency flares in the above image. Anyway, as the area featured a large amount of relatively flat terrain, farms popped up like daisy's and have so far spread around the entire south side of the mountain and its adjoining ridge. As for actual residencies there are four named ones in the area. To the South East of Mt Hayley, Hayleys Descent, which is the sister and rival town to Hayley's Ascent with both being settled by people who coudlnt agree on whether the point where they drunkedly cheered Hayley on at the start of the climb or the point where they worridely greeted her on her return trip down was more important, can be seen here alongside the small town of Pendrington Whereas, to the South West you can see the aforementioned Hayley's Ascent and the town of Hayley (founded by people who were more intent on founding a town in a sound geographical location rather than on some local woman). As you can see the area around Hayley and Hayleys Ascent seems to have spread a lot more successfully than the area around the other two towns but this is mostly down to the town of Hayley rather than Hayleys Ascent being the right place to celebrate the local Heroine, despite what the residents of Hayleys Ascent might tell you. Anyway other than that the only real other thing of note is Pendrington Woods located just south of Pendrington as a attempt to appease environmentally minded residents by Mayor Poppins after building the coal power plant (interestingly enough you can see the Mayor had no qualms about placing power pylons throguh the forest though so that energy could be supplied from the coal power plant rather than the area having to provide their own. You can also see farmer Maggues radio tower converted from a old power pylon that used to help provide energy to the otherside of the forest before farmland surrounded it. Its also the first radio station of the whole area). Anyway that's all I have for now so here's a image of some lovely rural spread for you all till next time. Cheers James

Ok, here's a HD zoom of Cristo Redentor. This will probably be my last update of him, I think he's ready unless there's any other feedback? Please note, I've scaled everything up 133% and he came out like spaghetti man, so I compensated by making him wider. It took a few goes, I think this looks right but let me know if he still looks stretched or squashed... I've decided not to pursue the custom foundation, but I will export the statue and plinth as a separate model/prop. Aaron, thanks for the tree settings, the best part was the Colour Correction diffuse map. I've never seen this before, its a million times more simple than trying to tweak materials in Photoshop! I wish I knew about this before. Thanks I'm pretty happy with these tree colours now, they look a lot more SC4 friendly. Apart from the folk that want them removed altogether no one has commented on the leaves so I'll take that as good news. Anyway, they have the AG seal of approval, that's good enough for me . Ok.. speak now... or forever hold your peace Time for something new

zzzzzzzz.... I tried it out and it's been applied on this building. But I did keep the render filter on Lanczos, purely because Mitchell's gave a very blurred effect in comparison to Lanczos filter. I don't know why, but I wasn't too fond of the lack in sharpness. But the other settings seemed to have made the shadows a lot more accurate. Also, can someone give me a heads up on a good floral generator? The ones on Max are okay, but they're not as good as I've see on everyone else's BATs (Aaron, Reddon )

The Standalone Flora Brush will cover an entire large city at once so all you need to do is hold the mouse button (or even lock it if possible). Also see this post (below the replies) for even more fun planting seasonal flora. Yes! Thanks a bunch for those links Vortext. Thanks Moerp, City_Master, Huston. And dude, thats an awesome building! <- wants it. EDIT: On Vortext's suggestion I've installed the Standalone Flora Brush mod and it has made ALL the difference, I also learned how to use Mouse Lock feature in Windows from his other link to make the process even easier, and to boot, I just discovered something sweet: If I open a city tile in SC4, zoom out to max, select tree brush, center my pointer, click and hold (with mouse lock on this will lock the click in place) at this point I can ALT-Tab to internet browser and guess what? Simcity doesnt care, it thinks I'm still in its window holding down mouse button!! Tree planting continues merrily in the background, after I'm done reading whatever, I go back to simcity and move on to the next tile! YES! (Did a whole tile while writing this!) Maybe it won't take that long after all. Progress with this method so far this morning (Jan 25): UPDATE Jan 26: Another day of Foresting.... *pant* UPDATE 2 (Jan 27th): FINISHED! Woooo.

Hello, I'm Yumi-chan! This update is about my work on Osaka Prefecture. Yes, I am still working on Hiroshima, the city tile is almost done. I am going to start numbering my pictures, from this update and on. This will be a large update, with 22 pictures. The style here will be a lot different from the style in Hiroshima, as the Osaka style quite a bit different from. Enjoy! 1. This right here is the city of Sennan, Osaka Prefecture(泉南市、大坂府). The city population in real life is 65,315, while my Sennan has 86,804. WOW. I exceeded the population by over 20,000! But then again, I had to fill in all of the space. So now comes the statistics. Density (Urban): 22,257 people per square kilometer. Density (All): 5,425 people per square kilometer. Land Area (Urban): 3.9 square kilometers. Land Area (All): 16 square kilometers. Enough about statistics, on to the city! 2. Right here on this intersection, you can see the Nogami Hospital. I chose the Maxis hospital as it looked very much like it. 3. This right here is one of Sennan's lakes. As you can see, there are people canoeing in lake. 4. This is a small commercial center with a post office. 5. This right here is one of the really nice roads. Very pretty! 6. NITORI HOME FURNISHINGS (The building with the big light blue sign and the parking lot) HAS ALL OF YOUR HOME FURNITURE BUYING NEEDS! 7. This right here is the train station in a large commercial area. This train station sees 1,694 people every day! (Would this be a lot of people? If it is, then I will let you in on my tips to getting your Mass Transit used more. Say in the comments.) 8. This is another large train station. It sees 1,060 people every day! It has a lot of commercial around it. 9. Here is a nice area of town. 10. A few restaurants, offices, and shops. 11. This is the tallest building in the city. It stands out a lot. 12. A dense urban area. 13. Here is Sennan's major seaport, next to it are some factories and houses. 14. This is an area surrounded by forests. 15. Here is an Overview of the middle of the city. 16. Now the left side of the city. 17. And the right part of the city. (Part 1) 18. More of the right part of the city. (Part 2) 19. Now night pictures! Yay! (Part 1 of right side of city) 20. The right side of the city at night. (Part 2) 21. The middle part of the city at night. 22. The left part of the city at night. So that was the update! Phew! That was a lot of pictures! Sorry, no real life pictures (Because I've never been there. The information for this city was gotten from the internet) Well, I hope you enjoyed! Comment, and feel free to ask about what mods I use! I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

In a two part tour I show to you all my latest large-scale industrial area, areas similar to that of Grendon and Grethor but with a larger bag of tricks and more diversity. Here goes! /// The industrial area west of the river. In part 1 we will be looking at everything South of the highway. Good old industrial lakes. One of my favourite parts of Broadsville's industrial area. Wherever possible extend lots with fillers. Grunge tracks are God darn sexy! I realised that these grunge concrete tracks remind me of those alleyways in suburban Los Angeles and in other American cities. There is something very appealing about their ugliness- that is the grunge concrete tracks. jestarr's marvellous BATs and LOTs. /// Part 2 of the tour will be posted this Friday. Ever since I came back to Simcity 4 late last year I've been searching and testing in my quest for that specific look and feel I want to achieve in my regions. Having a lousy Intel HD Graphics onboard video controller doesnt help either, as I can't use any of the wonderful new HD content. After playing with Columbus terrain and trees for a while, last night I thought I'd take the terrain horse for a ride again and started trying options I had overlooked last time around. This is what I've achieved after a day of tinkering, all images taken on 1st Sept SimDate just after planting forest. I must say I REALLY like this, probably not everyone's cup of tea, but wow, just wow. Compared to anything else I had achieved, this is just pure awesome. This is the Cascadia Tree Controller and CPT Meadowshire Terrain Mod, along with RVT Coastal Mod. I've tweaked the Terrain Parameters exemplar extensively to get the right amount of snow for this region, as well as adjusting Water settings in various ways. The Estuary The Bay The Vale Coastline Detail You wouldn't believe how happy I am right now lol. Now, how long do you think it will take me to plant this whole region with trees? Weeks I wager, I so wish there was a tool to auto-plant whole tile to max capacity easily.. Done two tiles out of...... 13x13 Large tiles..... *gulp* 169.... eew. Wow see you in 2020. Ha. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the pictures, cheers. by the way, that's Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region if you were wondering.

Current Project : - Nuuk W2W Residentials: Future Projects: - Nuuk Houses - Nuuk Airport First post of the thread: First of all I don't know how to work with 3dsmax, gmax, sketchup, nothing. But I wanted to make something of my own, and I decided I'll recreate Greenland in SimCity because : 1 - It's gorgeous 2 - Simple buildings, easier to model. So I decided i'd start with something really simple, a W2W house, based in a real one in Nuuk: I looked up some tutorials online, and got the real basics. The result is below. It's very rudimentary, and I need new window textures. Also, ignore the lot, it's just a test. There's a small glitch with a window at the the back view but it goes away in zoom 4 and 6. So, my plan now is to replace the textures and place night lights. If I'm successful, I plan to do some variations on this building and hopefully model a few other ones. Anyway, I appreciate any help/advice because I definitely need it.

243 Mount Eden Parkway (A SimCoug Request) Here's an update on the row detached house, I still have more to do on the house but not a lot and then I can add textures . Most of you should know is that there will be three houses on the 2x2 lot. If I plan to make a 2x3 lot the lot will have five detached houses. I have been studying the lot set back rules and we all should know that wall to wall building should be 1.6 meters from the edge of the lot for the walls to line of with other batter buildings, this all ways made sense to use this because the early batters have used the practice/ rule to keep some sort of order, but for row houses detached and brownstone houses the rules are a little different. The rules for the row houses detached and brownstone house are different because the houses has stairs in front of them. If they only used the 1.6 meter setback rule the stairs that protrude from the building would end up on the sidewalk. It will make sense to make buildings like row detached houses and brownstones 1.6 meter plus another 1.6 meters from the edge of the lot, this will equal to 3.2 meters from edge of the lot, this also make it where you can have a protruding stoop and a small garden next to the stoop. It is possible to go farther back but it depends on the real life building, so what I plan to do is to make the set back for this building 3.2 meters from the edge of the lot. I am thinking about making mirror models on the row houses. Thinking in the future for the project is mind blowing. I may have to make up to 20 row houses. Update Future Look At The Lot Different Sizes 2x2 2x3 and maybe 3x2 Perspective Render

This is one inspired in part by a more modern building whose pic I had sitting in my swipe file. It's missing some details and added flare, but I got stuck in a texturing jag for it. There's something a bit off about it; can't quite pin it down. (Working on my clunky home laptop, the colors seem off even though they're recycled textures from previous BATs.)

Wow, beautiful work everyone! So happy I had a look in here! As it happens I got a few nature shots to show you too. I've been foresting a region recently and some of the views I've seen are pretty cool in and of their own. You may like this mosaic, or if you want you can see my whole collection so far here. These aren't technically my work in the true sense, and more credit is due to the creators of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region, the RVT Coastal Mod, CPT Meadowshire terrain, and those responsible for the Cascadia Tree Controller. All I did was tweak the water and beach properties to my liking and get plantin' those trees! And of course, take the shots All of these are pristine nature as is after using the God Mode Tree Brush intensively on a tile. Nothing removed, nothing added. Zero terraforming. This results in well, repetitive images in a way, but to me these are beautiful and worth sharing.

Replies: City_Master: Thank you. Tonraq: Thanks, I spent a bit of extra time on the rural industry so as to transition from residential to grungy industry. Sylvio Jorge: Cheers! coolwiththecool2: Thanks. Update 73: Testing out the W2W IRM Sometimes I am going to be posting small updates if there is something cool going on or if there are mods to test out, for instance in this update I really liked the look of T Wrecks W2W Industrial Revolution Mod. So I set up a flat test city, where I'm working on my grunge style, to try out this mod. Using the building plop cheat is the most precise way of using this mod. /// /// Tomorrow there will be a proper update and with a lot more industry.

Neue Steiermark: Kolibri, Part 2 The District of Neue Steiermark is located in north-central Schulmania, along the border of Imperial Mookimia and Mookimian Verà. Today, we visit Kolibri, the capital of Mookimian Verà, and where Queen Vera has one of her two palaces. Kolibri is the northernmost regional capital in Schulmania. It sits along the northern shore of the Fresca River, the border with Mookimia. The fairly remote location gives it strategic importance for trade and defense. The Strategic Fish Reserve is located just across the river. A military garrison is just west of town, along the road leading to Tenne. Mookimian Verà is not heavily developed and consists mainly of thickly forested rolling hills. Timber and game are the primary sources of income in the hinterland, but valuable ore deposits should encourage more trading outposts. At present, Kolibri is the largest city between Padoha and the subarctic Republic of Leeviousia to the north. It should be an interesting city. We arrive at the ferry terminal on the north shore of the Fresca River. The district's Transit Office building is adjacent and provides a home for the various infrastructure bureaucrats (bureau cats??). The stately red brick Trade Center serves as the primary source for goods coming in and out of town and the surrounding area. If you get worn out from tall of the dealing there is always the hotel next door. It had lovely grounds as well as nicely furnished rooms. Our first stop today is Queen Vera's palace. She is not in today but the grounds are open as a public park. There are lovely views of the river and nice gardens for strolling... See? Grand Vizier Nicholas is manning the queen's office whilst she is away in Harar. He is ably assisted by Sir Christopher Baxou and Lady Grace Anderson. They are a great team and take great care of the queen's subjects. The Chapel of the Felicitous Feline is in the heart of town. This afternoon there is an organ concert. Famed organist Jared McCoy is playing an assortment of Motley Crue classics scored for pipe organ. Don't miss it! Afterwards, stop by Bruner's Market. Here, you can find all sorts of delicious treats and other fun stuff. And, at great prices! Derek Adams and his wife Miranda live here in fashionable Jackson Square. They are hosting a reception for after the organ concert. There will be Fancy Feast served. Come join us! Maybe you'd like dinner at Zevende, a charming restaurant-gift shop kind of thing. Sort of like Schulmania's Cracker Barrel... Residents of Kolibri are happy to live in such a cool new town. Visit us today and see for yourself why Kolibri is the "Jewel of the Northlands."

SimCoug: I think at least I could export them and just e-mail them to whoever wants them. If they were to go on the STEX, would they just be tagged onto the lighthouse upload, or would they get put into mipro essentials so that people could link to it as a dependency? But that means everyone else is downloading lighthouses props which will probably never be used as a dependency, and if so, wouldn't be for a commonly used upload. I'm not even expecting the lghthouses themselves to get a ton of downloads, as they'll only appeal to an appreciative but small number of people. A small update on 220 West Congress. Have I ever mentioned that making roof junk makes me want to die??
