I know I said that the next entry would be about the regional road and rail network of Fairview, but first I need to get an idea about how my cities would be like and where should I build what, in order to avoid environmentally costly mistakes. If we're going to do something, we'll need to do it right. However, by rebooting Fairview in larger city tiles, we can now build a new regional transportation network unlike any other. A highway. Not for electric cars and hydrogen trucks, but for ships and submarines that uses magneto-hydro-dynamic drives for propulsion. A highway over the river. Because of the river that crosses Fairview, this region is ideal for water transportation, but ordinary seaports are out of question because of the heavy environmental damage they could bring. So what's the next best thing? Offshore aero-seaports! That's right, seaports and ferry ports in water connected to the city by underground roads, that services ships, ferries and submarines, and even have vertiports for helicopters, airships, drones and VTOL aero-spacecrafts. So from now on, we'll have not only main roads, magnetic trains and underground rapid transit networks, but an extended ferry system too.
The idea of a water highway is based on the Alaska Marine Highway. Alaska is the largest state of USA, but only a dozen highways serve the state, and more than 80% of Alaska's communities can't be reached by road. So for food, freight, and people to get to those secluded towns, Alaskans invented a highway over the high seas, with ferries working around the clock to connect 33 coastal ports.
Now, let's see some of the ideas I have about the layouts of the cities. I want each city to have a solarpunk layout, something that will be interesting, efficient, organic, naturalistic and still futuristic, and I've used the agriculture zoning tool to draw some lines and put some placeholders. The main body of Acrosanti-3000 will have a cool circular shape, with most likely an arcology at the center of it.
Here is the basic design for the Venus City, an oval shape. Less circular, but still nice and organic.
Lys will have a small circular town. In the rest of the area we'll have a cluster of mini settlements scattered around.
As about Green Eden, apart from a small circular town I haven't figure out yet how it will look like. I have many ideas, like a big walk-able city with more pedmalls than streets and roads. I'm open for any suggestion
For now, all we can see in our regional map are some layouts and the ferry routes of our water highway. How it will be in the next entry? We'll see. See you there
