The beta test has already produced one major improvement, which Alex (Tarkus) will be implementing.  The great news is that, because the NAM is now modular, we don't have to wait for the next release to get this out and into everyone's hands.

There's more beta test pics and discussion over at 3RR [linkie].  See you there.

Thought I'd post a couple pictures that were snatched from the Massopax State DOT's files...

    far2iw9.jpg

I tried playing U-Drive-it today with the FAR's and it worked fine. They show up in the region view too.

Pretty much the only issue I've is when I've mislaid a puzzle piece and when I bulldoze it, it messes up the neighboring pieces, such that if I have a long string of FAR's, all of them end up getting messed up as I bulldoze the previous messed-up puzzle piece, and so on.

At any rate it's a neat tool.

I thought instead of having the same pictures of FAR as the SC4D thread, I'd show a mosaic!

Although its not filled to the brim with FAR, it just goes to show how well it integrates into the existing road network. Well done David!

dfnva: For the mislaid puzzle pieces, I've found that its actually ok not to demolish everything. Bulldoze all except for the one tile which connects to the other FAR piece, then laid it down again and it shall connect nicely 4.gif

If the FARs are released, it will be absolutely GREAT for rural areas.

I'll now go and scan SC4D for the latest projects.......

That looks simply unbelievably good. Great for some twisty mountain roads. You should try to do it on something like Stelvio pass in Switzerland.

    Well, hi again.

Explodingsims, in answer to your question, here's the next FARR piece- the 45 degree curve.

    teaser12080517xw8.jpg

No. 1, of course, is the game 45 degree curve.  Enough said.

No. 2 is the 45 degree curve that currently is in the NAM (It's been there since the version released in January, 2007).   It is included in the puzzle-pieces and has been, to this point, the only break from the game curve radii.  It has been a wonderful addition to the game, and I have used it in 3RR [linkie] to the exclusion of the game "45s" since its release.

No. 3 is the curve I just finished texturing (it is shown on a lot because that's the only way to see it until the puzzle-piece masters work thoir magic).  Note that it is smoother and more uniform, that the ties actually are properly aligned with the curve and that transitions are improved (I have a tie mis-alignment issue at the 45 degree end- the game 45 degree "straight" section has different tie spacing).  All that said, the dimensions and in particular the radius is the same.  This will be the 45 degree puzzle-piece available in the next release of the NAM.

    So now we have this

    teaser13080517wd8.jpg

    and this.

    teaser14080517df9.jpg

    Something big coming up next.

This was a 3RR-ST exclusive.  Thanks for your interest.

The new piece looks very good, much more natural. Is it possible to create the new piece in a Y or left and right hand switch configuration?

Well, the FARR is headed out the door- my part is done.

Here's what it looks like across a notional quad.

And here's a taste of what you can do with it.

The FAR beta test will be wrapping up shortly and the new road pieces will be available soon.  We'll be looking for beta testers for the FARR- if you're interested, let us know over at 3RR [linkie].  It'd be great to see what you can do with this stuff.

I'm updating my last post here, so for those of you who notice that it pre-dates the great ST outage/data loss of May, 2008, but refers to that event- that's why.

I plan to work with the ST staff to see if anything can be done to restore lost content to 3RR and to the other great CJs, virtually all of which as I understand it have been affected.

I returned home yesterday, May25th, to find 3RR horribly defaced and most, if not all of the other great CJs on Simtropolis lying in ruins.  Almost all  posts cut off at about  200 words or so- there are treasures in  places like Anduin Valley Revisited [linkie], Simtropia [linkie], EDMONTON [linkie] and Schulmania [linkie] that are possibly lost forever.  This is a terrible thing, and all the more because it is so mindless and gratuitous.

If you are the hacker that brought this about- well, cretin, I hope you're happy.  Enjoy that now, because karma says one day someone will take something near and dear and irreplaceable to you.  People here worked in some cases years on what you destroyed in a few minutes.  You won't see it coming, either, and that will make it all the worse.  And then all the power you feel you have over others today won't help you a bit.

3RR here at ST will hit 60,000 page views today.  Thank you, dear friends.  Thank you very much.

    David

Its sad to see all the damage made here @ 3RR on ST. I wish you the best on your restoration efforts.

At least 3RR isn't lost entirely, you still got it @ SC4D. I bet you didn't even know you were making a failsafe there when you were updating at two sites, but it has proved to be a smart move. (I wish I has done the same.)

Anyways, this is view 59,994, so I'll say this in advance: Congrats on reaching 60,000 page views! That is a HUGE milestone!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

A big thank you to Dirk and the ST staff for working so hard to restore things to normal following the hacking the site experience over the past few days.  Hats off to you all!

    We've now got FAR/FARR level-crossings.

There's more on these happening over at 3RR [linkie].  We'll be keeping you posted here as well.
