David,

Wow, that's a great pic with the road going up the mountain with the switchbacks and all. Definitely looks like a scene out of western Virginia or West Virginia.

So when does the FAR officially come out? Several folks have asked me as I've been using it some in my cj.

Great work with the FAR.

Haven't dropped by in a while, David. Things are really looking great! I finally got around to using the FAR in my new region. The progression of the RAM is also coming along nicely. Always a pleasure!

    Whoa, a veritable comment explosion!  Thanks to all, and I'll take a few moments in a bit to respond.  I'm just passing by right now to let you know that the wide rail curves and FARR...

    ...are happening today over at 3RR [linkie].  The beta's just a few more hours of retexturing away.

    Later.

    This is very impressive.  The last intersection with the tracks is amazing!  Excellent work.  This is really good work.

    Cheers.

    Ploppable telephone poles...

    teaser08080802ay0.jpg

    It'd be great to see you over at 3RR [linkie], where we've just passed 111,111 page views.  Adding the ones you've given us here, that's about 175K views total in a little under 2-1/2 years.  Thanks, my friends, thanks very much.

    * * *

    As promised, a few replies.

    Alek (aleking)  Hey, Alek- I've said before that whenever you try anything, you invariably set a new standard.  I'll be watching for those country pics in AK's Bizarre (mostly) Urban Menagerie [linkie].

    Bruce (Schulmanator)  Why is it that whenever I visit Schulmania [linkie], I think of you with a garden full of kudzu vine [linkie]?  Amazing work there, my friend.  Thanks for the compliment.

    Twenty20, hey!  It's always great to see your nic gracing 3RR's pages.  Thank you for commenting.

    Jacky (jacqulina), your visits to 3RR over the years always remind me that I don't get over to Paradise Falls [linkie] near often enough.  Hiya back, ma'am!

    Dan (dfnva), come to thing of it, where did you get that copy of the FAR?  LOL, it's great to see you put it to such good use in Winchester [linkie].  I always appreciate you stopping by.

    Patricius Maximus, my friend, thank you for the nice words.  I'll check out what's going on in Franklin County [linkie] later today.

    A few more shortly.

    Later.

    David,

    I got the copy of the FAR from you back when you were doing some beta testing a couple of months ago.

    Those are nice looking telephone poles, I appreciate the work you do on stuff to make more realistic rural areas with SimCity.

    Heh, Dan- just kidding.  Like I said, I can see from Winchester that at least one of our beta testers was chosen very, very wisely.  You might, along that line, keep an eye on your email inbox over the next little bit.

    Matt (threestooges) has created a number of interesting variations of his phone poles...

    teaser08081006xw8.jpg

    ...which we've made ploppable.  More to come on getting these out there to you.

    Someone asked, "what's next, ploppable road signs?"

    teaser08081002qm8.jpg

    Well, yes, thanks to ST member ja/att.  His Mass Pak Prop Signs are here [linkie].  They are the best-scaled road signs I've seen yet- watch for further developments in this area over at 3RR [linkie].  We'll be seeing you..

    bump200ha5.pngHeh!  Speechless?...

    So, hey, we're proceeding apace with a fine discussion about MODding ploppable signs.  Our inestimable friend Ryan (burgsabre87/ryanb_SC4) has done a little work and, voilà!

    teaser08081502vj1.jpg

    Ploppable stop signs infinitely better than the game's.  But this is 3RR, where, when someone has an idea, ten folks will make suggestions about how to improve on it.

    In that case, check your alpha map.  If it's got a line or area at the top of it that's not completely blacked out, you could get what you're seeing.  The UVW map should be a plane, so nothing appears on the edges of the extrusion.  Also, you don't actually need to extrude the spline here, just make the rectangle and give it a UVW map, or if you're using a box object, give it a height of zero.quote>

    Anyway, we're headed here...

    teaser08081505qa8.jpg

    ...over at 3RR [linkie].  Who knows what's coming up next?

    So, last time we asked, "who knows what's coming up next at 3RR?"

    How about thermal features?

    A hot spring pool...

    ...Stay on the boardwalk, folks!...

    thermalpoolteaser080817uw1.jpg

    ...and a small (25 to 30 foot/7.5 to 9 meter eruption) geyser.

    geyserteaser08082103lw8.jpg

    The geyser erupts every 100 game days or so for about three game days, which is a couple of seconds in RL time.  You have to keep an eye on it.

    So, there'll be more developments along this line (and a few long-awaited DLs) coming up over at 3RR [linkie].  We'll see you around around the corner, eh?

    * * *

    Tommy (Tommy_Vercetti3)- Hey, great to see your nic again, my friend!  I'll check out Ridge in the next little bit.

    Bruce (Schulmanator), Dan (dfnva), Will (penguin007), and Martin (packersfan), thanks for the excellent comments.

    Later.

    Ryan (burgsabre87/ryanb_SC4) and Matt (threestooges) got together and sorted out a pretty good looking scale stop sign.

    v308082301ny0.jpg

    We're talking about what signs will be going into the 3RR ploppable roadsign set during the coming week, and would be glad to have your input.

    In the meantime, I'm making a handful of ST member ja/att's signs ploppable to use in the interim.

    teaser08082301fc5.jpg

    You can DL these over at 3RR [linkie], where they're attached to the posts that discuss them. We'll see you there.

    Take care my old friend!

    Still working on signs.  We've developed an improved plopping setup that allows for multi-ple clicks in the same plop, thus greatly increasing the odds of single-plop success.

    teaser08090101ur6.jpg

    Another interesting development is ploppable seasonal stuff, like Chris's (Chrisadams3997) great Rural Renewal Project stuff.

    Spring

    Early Summer

    Fall

    Winter

    teaser08083105uk8.jpg

    There's this and lots of other stuff going on over at 3RR [linkie] today.  We'll be seeing you.

    * * *

    Will (penguin077), Andreas Roth and I have been discussing a Euro sign set.  The current work is going really fast, so we'll be taking a look not to far down the road.  Anyone who can give me the metric dimensions of Euro warning and other traffic control signs, I'd be forever in your debt.

    * * *

    Phil (PhilsCafe)- My friend, it is always the best part of my day to fire up 3RR-ST and see your nic.  Hope things are going well- don't be a stranger!

    * * *

    Shingure- Thanks so much for the kind words.

    * * *

    I note that we now, between the just short of 120,000 page views we have at SC4D and 64,000+ we have here, have passed TheJerseyDevil73's great City of EDMONTON and are now in uncharted territory.  Thank you so much, everyone.
