The "Modds and Downloads"-search seems to be broken.

Can someone confirm this? I tried searching for something I know excests, like sc4tool, but I got no hits.

Well, the first item that comes up for me on that page is exactly that.

Yes, that's why I searched for it. I don't have any problem finding it, it's just that the search function seems to not work.

Or did you mean to say that the search works for you?

I've found an oddity that I don't think has been reported before. I'm on a Mac. When I try to reply to a topic with the "Reply" button sometimes a smiley menu appars at the bottom of the reply window, and sometimes it doesn't. This happens in IE and Safari.

I have noticed that sometimes the fonts in the first posts of some threads get all messed up when you click on something within that thread. This appearers to be restricted to IE only.

I find this a very strange bug. I just posted in the Yearbook committee's forum, but it says i posted in the thread called 'The city of Thunder Bay Ontario'. When I can not ever remember posting in such a thread. Why do you think this is happening?

Oh, never mind, I get it now. The smileys I saw were the Topic rating menu. I guess I'm not allowed to rate my own threads, which makes sense to me.

Hate to whine about a detail on such a fine site, BUT when I get a private message and go into the "Private Mail" box, the NEW mail is labeled "READ" and all the old mail is labeled "UNREAD" When I read the NEW mail it is immediately labeled "UNREAD" even tho I just read it 4.gif ! And I cannot get the old read, but labeled unread to "flip" to read.. it used to toggle, but now I can't get it to change no matter what I do.. I can even select "mark all as read" .. still no workie.. I assume I'm doing something wrong, but its got me stumped.. thx

I'm getting a strange thing happening - whenever I'm in STEX and open a new window for an item, and then click one of the links that the author has for dependances, it opens up a new window of the STEX main page rather than going to that dependancy page. This happens for every single thing on the STEX.

->when i click on "3ds files" in stex menu i get a little of all menues or from "bat menu" or "lot menu"(as what i was on before clicking on 3ds), so to me the 3ds links seems broken?

Hmm interesting. I just tried it on mine, and it works just fine to change it back and forth from "Unread" to "Read". Are you using IE? If so, try FF just in case. 4.gif

lol.. well I was fooling with this today while reading my mail and stumbled on this little oddity.. surely it can't be just me.. IF I "change all to read" it does just the OPPOSITE> all messages say "READ" and then my "Message notice" in the upper left says that I have X new messages which equals ALL MY MESSAGES!! lol

They WILL toggle from READ to UNREAD but mean just the OPPOSITE.. READ means that you need to read it and flashes your private message available flag while UNREAD means you have read it and don't need to read it again.. LOL This also explains why I was so confused by why every message said UNREAD since of course I had read all my messages 4.gif

I can allow for someone with a perverted sense of English who may chose that "read" is to be interpretted as the "imperitive" 'read this' rather than the "past tense" of 'to read' but how can they possibly explain how "unread" means "you have read this"

Well, there are two problems that I've been getting since March and I think that I posted the error here about 3 months ago. Well, I guess I'll post it again and this time, post a picture as well.

The "Avatar Above Me" thread is an excellent example of both problems.

These pictures speak for themselves.

Just a question...are the Best of the Week and Top Uploaders things on the right side of the STEX screen actully soupossed ot display something? And stex is the most problematic for me.

The pop up windows are stubborn and usally refuse to pop up or only display the donate ot simtropolis message, the text seems to overflow the main page on a 800x600 screen resolution, the 'by author' link in the pop up window doesn't work...all it does is send you to the main page...and the keyword search is really picky.Normaly I can't use STEX because of the pop up window problem,I can stand the text overflowing on the description...but I wish it was below the image and not to the side...the author link simply means I have to click the author link o nthe main page so I can stand that. But the keyword search sometimes refuses to look for Author Names which is not very helpful.

Rymac, I'm having the same exact problem... when I click on the "by author" button, it just sends me to the mainpage. And these aren't authors that just uploaded one lot and that was all, I'm talking about people like jeronij, BSC, deadwoods, and all those others. Any help on that would be apperciated.

ST isn't very friendly to anything smaller than 1024x768.. of course most ppl don't use anything smaller anymore.. my eyesight isn't great so I sometimes run it smaller so I can read better, and it gets messy.. I believe the top 'menu' on ST allows you to select what you want open and what you want closed..you might play with those setting a bit to see if it helps you... guesss us old timers will just have to wait til we get better displays/ pc's .. 4.gif

Well these forums seem to be working alright for me. There was one little problem earlier with the reply, quote, top and bottom buttons not appearing but that seems to have gone now.

Edit to post: No, it is still occurring. Oh well, refresh usually fixes it.

I still have this problem, i've even tried to install and use firefox but the same happens and only with 3ds model files.

When i check the url of 3ds model files button it's "https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&type=3ds Model" but when i've clicked on the link or copied and pasted it, the url that it stops on/goes to is "https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1".

I have the exact same problem. I cannot filter the search for 3ds files. Always gives me the All files result.

Also I am wondering about older threads. It appears that I can only scroll back to threads listed until about a year ago. Then there is nothing more dated earlier...  If I do a search about something particular though, it gives me results dating back to 2003.  For finding tutorials and stuff this must be fixed! Thanks!

The search function has a bug too. I cannot filter the search in selected forums. Everytime I select one or several forums and click search it always shows results of ALL forums nonetheless.  That is VERY unhandy.  Please fix this. Thank you!

When I first made my profile I found this too. I usually just re-word things to get around the problem.

A quick snippet of the post:

To test the theory here's my avatar in both JPG and PNG form, both renditions hosted at Imageshack:

Any idea why the PNGs may not be working?quote>

EDIT: Apparantly other people can see the PNG... but I still can't face-icon-small-confused.gif . I couldn't imagine it having anything to do with my browser, quite a few users here use IE 6.quote>

I have that same problem, and I know why it happens...  Sorta.

You see, this is apparently one of a number of sites that use a CSS/Javascript "hack" to allow 24-bit PNG images to display alpha transparency in Internet Explorer.  For a small portion of IE users, though, the image will be visible while loading--and then disappear immediately afterward, replaced with a 1x1 "blank.gif" image.  Another site that uses the "hack" is DeviantArt, where it's incredibly obvious due to the quantity of large PNG images found throughout the various users' galleries.

That's the part that I know; what I don't know is why only a few users have the problem.

That's also quite alright, because the fact of the matter is that it's an ultimately pointless "hack" that's also going to be completely unecessary soon--Internet Explorer 7 (currently in Beta 3) has full support for PNG images, among other improvements regarding standards compliance.  I should know--I've been using it for some time now, and it's great.  However, it still hates that PNG alpha "hack" (just as Internet Explorer 6 did), so I now have a fully-PNG-compatible browser that can't view PNGs.

Just thought I better point out quickly that dirk, the webmaster, has told me that Simtropolis does not currently officially support IE 7, he recommends you use IE 6 or Firefox.

Of late, some users find that their posts are entering the system with HTML tags instead of spacing using this editor.

Anyone have any ideas what's happening?  Are they using Beta browsers or O/S maybe?

Well, I've tried to duplicate the HTML error with both Firefox 1.5.0.4 and IE 7 using both the Reply button and the Quick Reply box. Neither produced the error.

I don't have Opera, Safari, IE 6 or IE 5.5 but it would be helpful if someone who did could report back. This is a very irritating bug.
