It's probably a combination. With Marty gone, the dynamic he had with the players was also eliminated, and it hasn't had a chance to develop with Norv at the helm. I mean, I can only speculate, but it seems that under Marty, both Rivers and LT were doing much better, than they are doing now with Turner. These sorts of relationships b/t players and a coach take a long time to develop properly, which is why I can't understand how you can fire the coach, when the relationship was just beginning to provide good results.

Of course, with their record last year, more pressure has been applied to the Chargers now, especially LT, who seems to get clobbered every time he gets the ball. And of course Rivers seems to get blasted more as well.

There's just something bad in the air in San Diego when it comes to football. The team management just seems to want to screw any chances the bolts have. And the city officials seem concentrated on getting rid of the team from city limits, by refusing to discuss any stadium deal that would replace Qualcomm. What are they so stubborn about? What's the problem of replacing Qualcomm on the current site? Chula Vista Chargers, here we come!

well about the stadium

San Diego has a huggge financial problem. I mean the city is in debt by a billon dollars or something. The city wants to focous on paying back and getting out of the hole. I don't think the city wants them to leave and if they move to oceanside or chula vista, it will still be the San Diego Chargers. Also If they replace the Q then there is going to be a mixed use of the land there. The project is estimated at $800 mill i think.

Yes, the city is in serious debt, but the project would be privately funded, by the Chargers, and whatever other developer would be involved in the project.  I was especially intrigued by the latest proposal of placing BOTH a stadium and an arena on the Qualcomm site.  It sort of reminded me the situation in Denver, where the new Invesco Field and the Pepsi Center are close to each other.

And about mixed use, well, Mission Valley is entirely mixed use right now, so I don't know how that would alter anything.  Besides, mixed use is simply a better city development strategy IMHO, since it eliminates the segregation of households from businesses, thus reducing the need to commute.  As such, I don't see the problem.

About the name.  I suppose you could call the Chargers, "the San Diego County Chargers", but who would go for that?  I mean, unless Chula Vista agreed to keep the Chargers by their current San Diego title, I don't see how it would stay.  Sure, it doesn't make sense to change it, because Chula Vista is part of the greater San Diego area, but these are technicalities that people will latch onto.

Well the Cowboys havent played in the dallas city limits since 1972. ( Irving)

And in 2009 they will be playing in Arlington across from the Texas Rangers Ball Park.

Well I would hope they don't drop the title, but all I've heard around here is "Chula Vista Chargers". Until the team or some city officials, or whomever involved in this deal assures that the San Diego Chargers will stay the San Diego Chargers, I'm not too keen on the idea.

Seems like the Chula Vista deal is the most likely at this point, unless some environmental/Port Authority issues come up.

Most likely they will not change change the name

unless they moved to a totaly different metro area.

Since chula vista is a Sandiego suburb i cant see that hapening.

how long were the Lions playing in Pontiac?

The Cowboys in Irving,The Giants play in New Jersey and are still The NY Giants.

there could be others im thinking the Skins new place isnt actualy in DC but not sure and i dont  know any DC suburbs except Langly Falls VA ( were the CIA is 38.gif    )

The stadium is in Landover, MD, a few miles east of RFK, the old stadium.

Well, I certainly hope you're right on this one.  But I have many doubts about any Chargers turnaround with what I've seen.

An interesting tidbit I saw yesterday.  The press asked LT why they were doing so bad, and basically his theory was that they were playing a riskier game than last year's more conservative game, where Rivers got more protection, and thus had more successful passes.  When Rivers was asked about LT's theory, all he said was "No, no."

So what's River's theory?  Because what I've seen is exactly what LT said is happening.  I just keep seeing interceptions, blocks, sacks, and horrid pass plays to LT that end up nowhere.

haha greekman-actually gillete is one of the best stadiums, now that they've replaced the grass with turf. its modern, unique, and well kept, and it looks great from all angles, Unlike some of those ugly concrete bowls like in kansas city. Qualcomm is okay, but I hate those circular concrete walkways sticking out of it.

Sim Shady-I agree, this is definetely where the bolts turn it around. Last week LT finally started running well, and thats good for san diego.

Speaking of lousy stadiums, I'll be at Candlestick this weekend watching the not-AFL (sneer) Bay Area team play the Baltimore Browns. Call it the 'Stick, call it 3Com or Monster if you must, but it's definitely a dump. Once upon a time it at least gave a nice view of the Bay but then it was enclosed. Like most centrally-planned megaprojects of the '50s and '60s, what it really needs is a bulldozer. I'd rather watch a game at Kezar.

If there's even one seat at Gilette that has a clear, straight-line, unobstructed view of the field, then it's a massive improvement over Foxboro.

I was just in Chicago last month, for the first time since Jane Byrne was mayor. Pardon me if I'm slow, but who landed a UFO on top of Soldier Field?

mayormot-lol. I went to a game in the last level and it was a great veiw, so i suppose thats pretty good, but still i wonder why rob kraft uses binoculars when hes so much closer.

easybakes-yes, if both teams win, that game will be HUGE, exspecially if the pats win by 20+. which brings me to a halarious part of bill simmons latest column.

"The Browns' offense is productive enough that this week's 16

@EasyBakes: I'm thinking the Ravens beat SF, and I'll take the Giants over the Jets and Skins over Lions, if you please.

@Patriots: Are we talking about Foxboro or Candlestick? I only went to one game at Foxboro, and I seem to recall most of the seats were at a slight angle to the field and it was hard to tell where the line of scrimmage and first-down markers were. I was halfway up, at around the 25-30. As for the 'Stick, it has all the problems of baseball-football conversions, and they sell seats that only have a view of the back of the roll-out bleachers, and it's rusting. Feh. Alameda Colisseum's much better, and a real AFL team plays there. 4.gif

Colts roll over the  Runner less Bucs

Easybakes, It looks like Addai will be out this Sunday so that might be two runner less teams and the way the Bucs defense has played, I say the Bucs beat the 8.5 point spread.

Oh yeah baby, oh yeah! That's the Charger team I've been waiting for! Excellent performance by Rivers. They finally have been able to keep strong throughout the game. Not to be smug or anything, but the Broncos fans looked really miserable out there in the rain and their measly 3 points.

But alas, the question is, can they keep playing like this for the weeks to come?
