To say a little more regarding this, I for one would like to promote a new and improved attitude for simtropolis to go with the new format. I've been on these forums for just about as long as they've been here, saying little, doing little. It took me months & months of observation before I felt safe to even become a member and start downloading. I've seen alot of people come and go, and I have seen alot of (now) very popular people come to the site (no names) in their beginning, ask "stupid" questions in the "wrong" forums, and make other "incorrect" newcomer mistakes. Some of those people were rudely "handled", others had someone nice help them out. Those same people who didn't know a thing & got helped out nicely (or not), in a year or two are "crucifying" today's new people, loudmouthing, and whining about every little thing.
Save your harsh words for government officials, CEOs of big oil & weapon companies, harvesters of the rain forests and those crazy & brutal human sex traffickers- they deserve it- & be nice to the person who might be having a little trouble finding out how to use some new thing he/ she thinks is cool. My ex boss has a ten yr old girl who is getting RIPPED UP on the site by some cranky old losers & know it all high school/ college geeks who are being really tasteless, petty and way too self important- and I'm the one who told him (the boss) it was a safe, great site w/ great people who would help her develop good social skills & help each other out in a nice way! Among other things, someone with a signature a mile long (it's like gaudy jewelry, imo) told her her innocent question was a waste of bandwidth!
I say we should all consider that we are so lucky to have a guy like Dirk who would create something like this (better than the game itself, imo), that we were all new once, and even consider that alot of us have real life work (6-7 days a week @ 68- 104!!! hrs a week for me) that prevents us from coming here and tracking every new forum, thread, d-load, etc... every single day to know exactly where every single thing is .........and take it easy.
I for one would feel like an ungrateful .... to cry about a FREE FREE FREE site full of such talent & creativity- let's be thankful & supportive, help the website improve, be nice (you actually have to type to say something here, which should give you time enough to think about what you're going to say) & be APPRECIATIVE of what we have!!!!

BTW, I've given simtropolis more money than I've given EA on all the various sim city editions, but that doesn't make me feel like it's O.K. to grandstand on the site, power monger & bully on the site, and complain about a site none of us got around to making. My friends from Puebla would give some of you an incredulous, sarcastic "no queires nada"!! And some of you would deserve it, and some of you deserve what you dish out to every one else!

THANKS AGAIN DIRK & EVERYONE!!!!!

Sincerely,
                 Jrock

I'm sure this has been said earlier in the thread, but I really don't have the time to sit here and look through 13 pages. When, exactly, is the rest coming? Can we get an estimation?

it would really be nice to have the subforums be under the main forums instead of being hidden until you click on the different catagories.

Dirk and team thanks.

I have been on the web since bulliten boards were on token rings and I have never felt compelled to post on sites.
I really feel at home here. Now, the new forum is easier to read through, and way faster.

We really should be glad for that, as this is a site to heighten our joy of playing SimCity, and to appreciate the artisanship of those fellow fans who are willing to contribute their craftmenship. I came here because I loved SimCity, I am staying because I love the community. Thanks for the nice canvas.

I promise to clean up the paints after I am done using them.

Thus the Yogiya has spoken.....

Originally posted by: dirk Yes, yes, yes, yes... this is, let me count, the third time we changed forums, and the fifth time we changed skins... so I've heard it all before. face-icon-small-smile.gif It's going to take some getting used to, but we did not flippantly decide on changing the forum software just because there was nothing else to do. Recall the numerous problems we had with the previous system - recall all the deadlocks, timeouts and hangs. There is a reason why not ALL forums are listed on one page, there is a reason why things are laid out the way they are. In order to get the improvement in performance that we want, we have to sacrifice some of the excessive niceties we were used to. After all, the whole point of the upgrade was to make things better -- for everyone, not just for you, so if you don't like it, I'm sorry. Keep in mind that this forum is in a language I'm quite familiar with, and therefore, making mods to it will be fairly easy. Already, I created a mod to bring back our old custom labels -- this forum actually does not allow you to assign labels to users (only automatically by post count, which is a little dated). Stick around, this is only our first day on the new ship, so more good things are coming. The reason why we were down for almost a week was because we were testing the heck of this system. Granted, not all issues are resolved -- the migration of data from one forum software to another is a huge undertaking. But I think we did pretty well. The old smilies will return, little doodads that you're familiar with will reappear -- all in due time. You didn't want to wait another week did you? face-icon-small-wink.gif Cheersquote>
For most any comments in this last thread, I want to remind people that a few questions were answered by Dirk in this post. Please read through the threads people, and stop saying "I want the old emoticons back" and whatnot, that has already been answered

Wow!

I wanted to write a long reply to those who kept complaining about minor details that are related to personnal preferances, but I felt too lazy and didn't.

But you summed up exactly how I feel about this, I think there is nothing else I could add regarding this except that you are absolutly right.

I also noticed this member rating system in the personnal profile. It could be a good idea at first, but I think it will cause more drama than anything else. It's like this "reputation" system that are on some other forums. I've seen a lot of those forums that stop it because it was always causing drama.

But anyway, I'm glad ST in online, and I can't wait until the STEX reopen!

'Old editor?' What's an editor?quote>

The interface in which u type and post a message. New ST has two different editors u can choose from in your profile screen. unfortunately both are not as good as the previous one.

Looking good so far. Sorry to hear that it's been a tough process to go through. I'd probably have pulled all the hairs out of my head and chain smoked if I had to go through all that trouble. But the work has paid off, and I like the pop-up reply window on the threads! Sit back and enjoy all the bunnies Dirk, you earned them. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Hello all

I would like to say thanks for making up this new format looks great and yes everyone it will take some time to get used to. My only issue is I cant access the CJ forums. I am sure this will be fixed soon. I love the new layout and will be sticking around to see what gets brught back and what does not.

I agree with a post by a very caring user we do need new attutudes to go with the new look. I have been here for 2 years and I have seen many good people leave and many who stay but got burned out. I have seen new teams come and go and I have seen alot of flaming going on. I hope that people will relize 2 things you can't please everyone and remember everyone has feelings that can be hurt. Lets be nice and understanding and helpfull.

Dirk your doing a great job I love the new look and feel and I hope you get the CJ threads fixed so I can work on mine again.

Regards Lynks

Dirk, Thankyou so uch for these forums, I am really liking them, and they look great!  Many new features which are just fantastic!

I have two points which I wish that you would please consider:

1. Make the messages per page count perminately on 30, because the default is lower than that, and it makes when people view CJs, everything is wrong!  Please change that, because I think thats important to CJers trying to manage their CJs.
2.  Do you think theres a chance of getting the home page back?  I liked it, because it gave you a taste of whats happening in simtrop.

I hope you reply to this dirk, I especially find number 1 important.  Anyway, thanks so much! face-icon-small-happy.gif

You CANNOT upload pictures any more. They must be hosted offsite, somewhere like Imageshack. Once it is uploaded, copy the direct link URL, and paste it in the picture dialogue of the post.
