Excuse me?  46.gif

Your point of view seems to be that, since someone gave you something for free, that someone is then obligated to continue give you that something throughout the rest of your life.

42.gif

If you truly believe this, you will find life to be very difficult.  The world does not work that way.

and, thank you, beebs.  I appreciate your dealing with things here while some of us are busy doing other things.  38.gif

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Come on, come on people, take five and calm down! Sure some of the things you have come to take for granted have gone, or changed, but when someone is giving you something for nothing do we really have the moral right to get on our high horses and complain? Simple answer ... NO! If I was running this site and I came across many of the comments I have read in this and other threads, I would have closed the site down and said "Go **** yourselves!" Instead, Dirk takes all this on the chin and gives you the best damn site out there! At the end of the day, Dirk not only gives you this site for free, he owns it and that gives him the sole right to do what he darn well wants to with it! PNG, BMP, TGA, GIF, JPG or whatever ... does it really matter? NO Bottom line, if you want an avatar of your own on this site, and you can't be arsed to make it in a format that the site accepts, use one of the standard ones and stop the bloody bitching! The world will continue no matter what file format is used. This is the best site available, and it's FREE and you are not continually bombarded with advertising .... so basically, either accept the due course of progress, or .................

God, what I would kill for an 'ignore user' function here...

There is an "ignore user" function. It's on the "myForums" page. You'll find the link at the top of this page.

@Duke: get irfanview. then, open your avatar. Then, select file>save as. Convert it to JPEG. Slide the slider to 100%, and save. the quality is EXACTLY the same as png. Thats what I did to my pictures.

(okay, it's not EXACTLY like pink if youre using blue on white, but its better then paints jpeg which saves the compression as 70%)

Thanks Dirk and admins for putting in so much effort into the upgrade. ST runs very fast and reliably for me now, and I have so far had no problems with the new forums. I look forward to the unveiling of the remaining features, and I see the new software gives us some cool new features too. Thanks again for all your trouble. bunny.gif

ummm...I really like change, SC4 was quite an improvement over SC3000 and I'm sure the same will apply here. I like the skins, but then again, I'm not to pricky....I mean picky about looks, what gets me the most is its free, we lost it for 5 days, got it back, and the welcome back forum turned into a request thread... gee welcome back... after readin through this it seems like people are saying.... "Hey thanks for the new car guys, now can you gas er, wash er, wax er, tune er, rotate this, trim that, change the fluids... hell why dont you just drive ME ME ME ME  around in my car."

I must say some have started a nice DEBATE in a welcome back forum....

My fam never really had alot of cash and whenever I complained about not having anything other than bare necessities Pops told me to "STFU and do with what ya got kid....be happy you got all yer appendages, all yer senses and a brain to CONTROL 'em."

You know....I wouldn't mind looking at all these forums in a D.O.S. format....at least theyre here...hell I'd even take a black background with green letters if its all I had.

Maybe I'm just a little over-exited that ST is in fact back... I feared it was gone....

I hope you folks realize that evolution applies to computers and everything run on them... things only get better, too bad most aren;t willing to LEARN to change with the times...

BTW, I like how an arguement was started about personal preferance with paint programs....real mature... I don't like ketchup...but I dont think you people care.....so why bother? ( I dare not spell it Catsup in fear of it resulting in a blown-out-of-porportion-arguement)

Dirk & Co.- For what its worth, thank you for finding time in your "Real-Lives" to create something that is provided free of charge to the public, you have given the creators a place to showcase work, the lurkers a place to read some wonderful stories, and a terrific place to exchange ideas and HELP one another all with an "OPTION" to donate.....

Think about that word people...DONATE... much like volunteer.... Just because you donate to a charity/good cause, it does not give you the right to dictate how your DONATION is used....

I f you don't like what you see, I'm SURE there is a "Websites for IDIOTAS' self-help guide out there, find it read it and get to work on your very own SC4 site, we'll stop in periodically to see how its going....then we'll tell you how it should be, after you've worked so hard on it. Maybe the kids need to be taken out of theyre high-chairs, plugged with a pacifier and 21.gif sent to the cradle for nappy time. 21.gif

My name is LHS-DoorGunner, ty for letting me have the floor.

It's not in the manual, it's actually a sort of hack, but it works. Here's how:

Go to start-> run
Type in msconfig and press enter
The system configuration utility opens up.
Click on the services tab.
Find "Adobe Active File Monitor" and "Photoshop Elements Device Connect."
Uncheck the boxes next to them.
Press apply and then ok.
A message box will come up saying to restart your computer. Do so.
After you restart, a message box will come up saying something like "You have used the system configuration utility..."
Uncheck the checkbox and click okay.
That's it.

You can also disable any other troublesome services that you don't want running every time you start your computer. Just find them in there and uncheck them.

I hope this helps.

Poor dirk, he puts sooooo much time and effort into the site and has to deal with the immaturity of some people whining about miniscule things. brokenheart.gif

I think someone needs to chill before he no longer is considered a Mega Fan...

We love you dirk! heart.gif

I like the fact that the reply box is in a separate window! On firefox, it always opened within the existing window which was a pain. In the past, If i had a big message to put onto a particular forum, the internet would time out amd then I would end up double posting! Hopefully, double posting will be a thing of the past. I also like the fact that I can preview the message that I have written!

Now, I don't want to sound un-grateful for all this hard work that you fantastic people have put in, but...

--> I feel that there is no proper distinction between the main message and the signiture space.

--> I have tried to get into the Simtropolis Help Squad space but I cant as you need to type a "catagory password" in. The sig help in Simtropolis 4 was very helpful as was the assistance into finding the web-users colour pallet (I am a great beliver in trying to add a bit of colour in my CJ)

--> I like the new look of the forum! It is a contrast between darkness and light (which is also a reflection of the game). However, I feel that you have condenced the forum material too much! This might be my cold feet talking but I feel that there are too many topict under one umbrellar (sp)

Now, I don't want to make a mockery of all the hard work that you have all put in, I am sure that this upgrade has taken alot of time and planning and I think that you should give yourselves a good cyber-pat on the back! present.gif

I think that everything is looking really nice and am definitely looking forward to getting the rest of Simtropolis back.  I love how fast everything is right now.  44.gif

The not being able to use HTML code in your signiture is pretty annoying...that would be my number one complaint right now...still I like the new look and speed of the forums a lot.  Thanks Dirk!

Admittedly I too would like PNG support back (and it's just a common misconception that all PNGs are huge: software just used to have poor support for it), but I'm not going to whine about it, making me look like a total prat in the process. Yes this software has it's annoyances, but it's benefits outweigh them. Oh, and BTW, before you start calling photoshop rubbish, remember it's the industry standard, and is highly complex: I would have though you as a 'highly skilled user' would have worked it out.

BTW, Wallasey, you don't really need to use the Websafe colour palette, since nearly all modern Browsers and OSs can display 16.7 million glorious colours correctly

I just noticed someone has rated me 10. As to the meaning of this rating, I'm not sure, but I am flattered...I think.

11 people have rated me to an average of 8.28! It makes me feel better. Maybe Ill be nicer to people to make it go even higher?

I think that the rating is a very weird idea.. For me it doesn't has any sense... maybe because I have a 6,31 rating after 19 votes... hmmm

AND BTW: Where's the [:sly:] emoticon ???

Great to see the forums back. Please, DON'T do that to us again, Dirk! 17.gif

How's the rest coming along? Are the bunnies still causing problems? 3.gif

In all seriousness, take your time, after all, the forums crashed once already. It'd be a problem if we lost the STEX...

I know what it feels like to lose loads of work. I've had to reinstall windows on my computer four times in the last five months (it ain't pretty, let me assure you...)
