Let me just say the bookmark feature is great - especially since bookmarked topics are easily viewable on the left nav bar. Sure saves my Firebox bookmark folder from extre clutter!

Ahhhhh, it's good to be back. And nice new forums too! The only problems are the signature limits and the inability to host avatars on an external website. Also the rich text and the ban on html code in replies. But I realise it just opened up again and you are still tweaking everything but thank you for opening up the forums instead of waiting for the rest of the website to be finished.

GO SIMTROPOLIS!!!

(P.S, please bring back the old emoticons because I loved those)

And also, isn't it ironic that the forums open again at the same time as I recived my STEX CD in my mailbox! Thanks Dirk and Skigeek for that. It's fantastic.

Well I am glad the forums are back. I am n ow spending more time reading them than i did, as life has given me slightly more time on my hands. For the complainers, there are a few niggles here and their, but you are thinking too much about the old forum system and quite frankly you can't stand change!! I view the forums at home on opera and at work on mozilla and this new forum system makes it easier for me to view it on my Mac at work. The speed is a noticable aspect, pages don't hang at peak times and I have to wait only to get server time out , this is now at the moment not a case. I like the new system of which is quite customisable for us, if you don't like the colour, change it, amout of posts shown, change it. I post regulary on 4 forums and each time one has changed people start moaning. the change is for your own good, its here to improve the content and storage that the forums can have and keeping up to date helps this. I say well done to the team for their time and effort which keeps us upto date with all teh c4 info and provides a platform for the community. besides there is over 100,000 members and I bet only 1% have contributed anything money wise, those that have contributed can have a say as their money (mine included $25 last week) keeps these forums alaive and on teh internet. For those who don't contribute money keep quiet, you have no right to complain. I get tired of all teh complaining and bikering. Things change..... Live with it!!

Great to see that Simtropolis is working again, personally I think the older version looked better, but I hope the new functions and the upgrades will make me accept this new look. What about a 'nostalgia' color theme? Wouldn't that be great so you could have the old colours but still the great new functions?

I would like to post some of the probs I have encountered (and I hope to have them fixed). The rest have already been reported by other members:

- There is no clear indication of the page number of the thread you currently are, eg if you are on the 3rd page the page the button only displays the number 3 in a (very) sligtly thinner font (the rest is just a little more bold), I think something more discernible is needed.

- The old PMs are gone, and there is a limit of 100 in the new engine. Even if the PMs are meant to be temporary messages (not mailbox) some people (including me) may have used it as such, if the engine does not cause any problem. My messages contained correspondence with other members, comprising often really useful content, eg links, advice on how to do things etc. So I would like to either have the PMs back, or if this is not possible maybe someone could massively send them as emails to the account of each member. I regard this as my most significant loss.

PS: And please, do not listen to members complaining about their offsite-hosted avatars, I have seen some avatars as large as 2MBs (1280x1024 images); this, although does not waste bandwidth of ST itself, still affects the fluency of pages. Requiring that avatars are hosted in ST, actually makes sure that all avatars will comply to the rules.

I for one am happy with the changes - it must have been a horribly tiring job to transfer the thousands and thousands of messages from old to new. I understand that many are complaining - but change is always a challenge and everybody gets used to it.

yes I don't mind the upload pic being gone I host all my pics offline... I have noticed alot of the Cjs are missing or just not funtioning. I tried to get to my Cj and it comes up with a cold fussion error. I assume this is just temp.

also the new look is growing on me going to take some getting used to and thats ok...

Regarding Sigs I think a tighter limit should be kept to keep them to a decent amount. that way they dont take up half a page.

Yay, my first post on ST 5.0. It's definitely different but I like it. I liked the light colors of ST 4.0 but I'll get used to the new theme(s) as well. There are a couple of things I'll have to get used to anyways. I guess we won't have 'welcome to page ...' and too big signature issues anymore ;-). Maybe that's the beginning of another Simtropolis culture...

Anyways, good job dirk and I'm looking forward to the rest of the page comin' back.
