Very nice, mayortim! I have enjoyed what you have done with this region, and it really helped with my progress on my region. I am quite excited about it and will be updating it as soon as I get Cycle Dog's trees in and some other development finished. I would use Cycle Dog's terrain mod as well, since it looks so nice with yours, but I may wait until he brings his other ones out. Anyways, can't wait for more updates, and good luck with the rest!

There will be an Update tomorrow. 5.gif

It has been a long time since the last substantial update, but the end of the school year has caught up with me. Tomorrow will be a pretty large one, that I hope you all will enjoy. Thanks for all the comments I have been getting, even though there hasn't been anything new recently. I really appreciate it. 1.gif

I am short on time right now, so I will answer all the questions you guys have asked tomorrow.

Time for some much needed sleep....24.gif

Thanks for answering his question for me, KOSC. I was going to look it up in the morning, but now I don't have to!

    Update time!

But first, to answer a few questions and comments... 49.gif

Nexis, Amryai200, gurrgkud, MrCinatit, Sc4_cewl, Sparks1176, SC4 meister, kingofsimcity: Thanks for the comments everyone!

mrp2005: As KOSC said, the building you are looking for is the Cobb Altura Tower.

Ok, now on to the update!

Todays update is on a new town, which is completely suburban. I hope you enjoy!

    p11pq.jpg

Here is a picture of the town of Clarkwood.

    p23sp.jpg

Clarkwood is a mostly residential town, with several big box stores along its major avenues.

    p38uw.jpg

This town benifits from good planning, and has commercial buisnesses along all the major routes of travel and single family homes behind them.

    p44qi.jpg

    Another area of the city.

    p51uf.jpg

This is the heart of Clarkwood, its downtown. The tallest building in the city is 8 floors tall.

    p63ba.jpg

Here is a close up of a high wealth suburban area.

    p74ji.jpg

In this shot you can see the second IMAX theatre in Klondike Delta, as well as some big box stores.

    More suburbs

    p94ac.jpg

Finally, here is an up to date region view.

    Comments welcome and appreciated!

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

aleking: Wow thanks! I am honored that this is one of your favorites!
Mikeaut1: Thanks! Mandursuro is probably one of my favorite cities of all time, and I found a lot of inspiration in it for this journal. Glad you picked that up!
kingofsimcity: Thanks. About the light colored city... that is actually a part of Cold River, which is officially my no. 1 most hated city to work in. Something always seems to go wrong, from frequent random crashes to unbelievable lag. The way I get that dark green color in region view is by planting god mode pine trees in my residential areas, but for some reason the pine trees in that one area won't show up in region view. I am working on it though.
rubberduck: Thanks! I hope to see you more often in this journal!

Looks good, though, that far out view of the city makes the city look a bit sterile... it could just be the shopping centres along the avenues...

But otherwise, that's some pretty realistic suburbia.

The region view really serves to underscore how far this CJ has come since the first few pages 19.gif. Those are some amazing suburbs!!

Btw, how do do make those little cul-de-sacs? Do you do them manually or is there a modd you can download on the STEX?? 42.gif

helomoto: Glad you like it! I also hate Toys R Us, but I just can't imagine a city this size without at least a few of them.
    jacqulina: Thanks!
Shadow_Assassin: I know what you mean about Clarkwood looking sort of sterile. I think it will improve and fit in much better once I build around that area a bit. The whole city won't look like that.
ephorex_77: Thanks! As for the Cul-de-sacs, I do them old school. They are just a 2x2 circle of street attached to another street with houses set around. I looked into the cul-de-sac mod, but I think I will just stick with the tried and true method.

Thanks for the comments everyone! 1.gif

    Thx for the reply MayorTim!

I did try making cul-de-sacs once as an experiment 3.gif. I found that I had difficulty making them look natural; futhermore, I didn't seem to be able to make the streets meander (within the grid established by roads) in a realistic fashion. 30.gif The sprouting of those annoying mansions and villas (3X3??) all over the place only served to compund the problem.

Perhaps you know of a thread on this?? 42.gif I'm not too fussed about it, but I think it would be great to incorporate them into my cities 18.gif. TIA.

Man alive, that region view could almost be some satellite pic of a realworld city. It's incredible. Now I'm off to try and find the update where you did the airport, because that looks phenomenal from up here in space. 2.gif

    Marvellous and inspirational work!

I really like the setting for this CJ, especially the airport. We need moore close-ups on it, two updates are not enough 3.gif

But, I have to advise to spread out your streets in suburban areas, 'cause they are very unrealistic this close together, even for inner-suburbs. Just remember never to fear wasting a tile or two.

Also, in that last update, I feel that you *might* have overdone it with the big-box stores: There is much too many of them, and too close together. What I suggest is maybe a few apartements and office parks, some smaller businesses and bigger ones (tile-wise) such as car dealerships. Also, maybe in other areas, try to centralise your shopping centres (or bix-box stores) into massive complexes, and use them more sparingly.
In my opinion, that would make either this area or future ones much more realistic.

Sorry if you think that I'm being picky, I'm only trying to help you make your cities look even better. I'm really looking forward to another update!
