Funny you should mention this - I've thought about doing a "Massively Gigantic World BAT Thread" to bring Simtropolis members some of the great creations that Spanish, Brazilian, French and German BAT'ers produce. Many of the works from these international sites get posted on the STEX but many others do not.

Apart from the German sites that Vester mentioned, I suggest Capital Sim City, from Spain. I check it at least once a week and there are pretty frequent updates to the "Zona de Descargas" section.

Also, SimCity Brasil is a great site, although almost everything they have is also available here on Simtropolis.

    Howdy!

I have been a member for a while but have not been very active. I am looking to remedy that and I think I may be of some help if pnorrell wants/needs it. I live in Japan currently and I speak and read some Japanese. I am in Japan teaching English and my degree is in Japanese history and Education. While I may not be the best choice for a translator, if anyone out there needs an explanation as to what a building is or what it is used with or for, I can probably help you out. And I must say, the trains and train stations on the previous page are spot on as far as look and feel goes. I have been considering doing a CJ of a Japanese city to kind of educate people as to how a Japanese city functions but have been hesitant due to the lack of Japanese bats I have been able to find, that may change now.

Anywho, if anyone needs help with anything Japanese city related, feel free to drop me a line and I will do what I can.

Hi Mogwai1313! A belated welcome to Simtropolis as well...

Your offer of assistance is much appreciated. We've been lacking real Japanese cultural and linguistic knowledge for quite some time now and I imagine you could be a big help to the community.

I haven't had much time lately to continue the guide, but it's really intended as an "idiot's guide" to the Japanese SC4 community, with the reasoning, "if I can do it, anyone can," since I don't myself speak Japanese or otherwise have any connection to the country or the culture. If you'd like to contribute anything here, please feel free. I'm trying to figure out how to link to specific posts, so that I can put a table of contents in the first post of the thread and make it easier for people to find info in later posts, but so far nobody seems to know how to do it.

Also, you might want to follow the Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery thread. There are frequent questions about what an item is used for, bug reports and updates that are pretty hard for the rest of us to answer, even using an online translator.

Welcome once again and thanks in advance for the help! 44.gif

Pixelrage: If you look at the creator, you see it NOB. Then go to the first post in this thread and you will find a link to his homepage.

Before asking any further question, please read through the thread. There is one post on NOB's homepage.

This thread is more a guide how to find the japanese BATs yourself and not so much a thread to ask where can I find this and that.

Been a long time folks... Sorry for the lack of updates or attention to this thread. I've recently moved back to the US and have been swamped with a million things other than SC4, but I hope folks are at least still finding the links useful...

Updated the links page with ks' new site, discovered by vester_DK. Thanks also to vester for continuously referring people to this thread and "helping them help themselves..." 44.gif

Looking for the Nephlon Arista Arximia a while ago I came across another japanese site.

I have no idea of who's behind it, and it doesn't contain too many lots. Those that are in there may however indicate that the guy behind the site is 2ch.net Simplayer: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=59648&enterthread=y

Anyways, the lots/bats available are all great and seem to be pretty recent ones.
And as far as i know it's currently the only site that has the NAA available for download.

    Hello to all!

It has been a while since I have last posted on this site and almost a year since my discovery of this community.

I am a Japansese student who has recently moved back to japan from the states, and my Japanese vocabulary is as good as my English one.

I would like to help out by manually translating japanese sites and forwarding recommendations that anyone might have, since this is about the only thing I can really contribute.

Except for posting regularly, which I'm not that fond of.22.gif

Well, if anyone has a meaningful enough request, please let me know.

    Thanks1.gif

EDIT: Maybe I can contribute to the idiot's guide?9.gif

I think that's part of Kei's tileset replacement mod, which means you can't download the building individually, but only as part of his set of replacement Japanese residential buildings. I can't be sure though unless you tell me the site where you found it.

Pnorrell, I saw this building about half way down Raika's page.  I just don't know how I'm supposed to download.  I've seen people use it in their cj's. Thanks

Google Language tools (link also in first post of this thread) gives me the following:

"While looking at the Simcity-related sight for a while, at the sight Kei the Japanese construction style project was advancing. It is something which in the plan which replaces the building of the New York style to the Japanese style building, to Japan probably will convert the rows of buildings in town. Funny because so it is plan, we had decided to try participating in building compilation."

    SS20050109.jpg

"As for SS above at Japanese style intercellular layer multiple dwelling house, prototype for project. With staircase type of 4 floor building, 16 households are the residence possible standard multiple dwelling house. The residence which was built in the eighties is designated as the model. It is the excessive too clean being, because Imai [chi], it has become something where color tone a little is not polished."

As is mentioned there, the Japanese Construction Style Project is an endeavor to replace all default Maxis buildings in the New York tile set with Japanese equivalents. Kei has led the effort but several other BAT-ers, including Raika and NOB, have contributed. This is one of Raika's contributions.

If you want to download the mod, go to Kei's site. Keep in mind, however, that this says "use at your own risk". If you have already grown the default Maxis buildings in your city that this mod replaces, then you may have problems loading or playing that city, among other issues.

    A tutorial/strategy guide to APTX 8590’s website

    Website is accessible here
     screen02dl6.jpg
APTX’s site is easy to navigate as well.

          Translation as follows:
§   About the usage of data
Data available here were all made using ilive’s Reader program. We will not be held responsible for any troubles the data may cause.

We currently do not accept BAT-ing requests. A request posted on the forum will be considered for a millisecond or two, and then immediately ignored. However, constructive criticisms on lots that are done are always welcome.

§  To those who cannot see the upper portion of this page correctly
You need flash. The newest version is Flash Player 9, which has been confirmed to work with this website.

To the left hand of the page, you will see the following menu:
     screen021ix5.jpg
Most likely you are looking for something in either “BAT” or “Transport”. The link labeled BAT takes you to a screen with (BAT’ted) lots. The link labeled Transport takes you to a screen with automata downloads.

Click on the link labeled BAT.

     screen03tr0.jpg
This is what you should see. Click on each thumbnail to open a new window that gives larger picture(s) and a description of the lot, a concept similar to the STEX. For example:

    screen04hp7.jpg

Clicking on the blue button that says Download (and the size of the file) will start the download.

If you are patient, you might also be able to figure out that its capacity is 6000 and that it takes up 4 by 4 tiles. It also says that you need a prop from Shibuya station. The lopsided lowercase e means “~’s” in this case. If you were planning on downloading this lot (or any other lot with ‘prop’ in the description, for that matter) without missing props, you would need to go find that prop (or the lot with that prop). For this particular station, click on that (main BAT screen).
    screen05oc3.jpgThis is it.
    Shortened description:

This is the west side of Shibuya station. In order to complete the station, please download and place the east side as well. NOTE: please make sure the land is absolutely flat before placing, or the elevated rail connections may not connect properly.

Since the original station we looked at did not say whether the prop was included on the east or west side of the Shibuya station, I would recommend downloading both. By the way, the thumbnail of the east side of Shibuya station is next to the one of the west side.
     screen021ix5.jpg
Main menu. This time, click on “Transport”.
    screen06je1.jpg

Click on a thumbnail, download as you would a regular automata.
This means that you will need the light fixture mod for the buses. Click on those bluish words for the mod.

    One more thing… click this
    screen07mk5.jpg
    Short description as follows:
This is the Shinkansen (bullet train) mod. It converts monorail into a high-speed rail system with a custom skin.

What the rest of it says is that there are stations for this mod available in various places. Click on either of these to go to a place with a shinkansen station available. Also, to get the pantograph car, it says to click on this.

Thanks, Moshi, for continuing this. From your tutorial I learned that I didn't have both sides of the Shibuya station or the fix for the bus lights!

Anyone else who can read Japanese or has otherwise figured out how to use a site not covered in this thread is welcome to post a tutorial here. When I started this, my plan was to eventually include a listing of Japanese downloads by category (R, C, I, Civic, Transport, etc.) or by genre (sci-fi, military, skyscrapers, historical, etc.). If anyone would care to do that it would be greatly appreciated as well.

Kudos once again to Moshi and happy hunting everyone!

I keep getting question marks instead of Japanese characters on the sites. Is there a way to resolve this problem?

On your browser, go to the "view" pull down menu and select "encoding". Then fool around with the choices until you get it to show. I leave mine set to "unicode."
