There are concrete runways. You'll have to look through the packs but they are there.

Take a look at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (Click Here) Why does runway 34 and 16 have 2 TDZs before the Aiming Point? Why is one runway the U.S. runway configuration while the other one is the international configuration for Runways? Also, why didn't they just name runway 17L and 17R instead of Runways 17 and 16 (Also on the other side of the runways, each number is shifted 10 degrees.) Just wondering, since I take a plane there every year.

The runways aren't exactly parrallel. They could be 2 or 3 dregrees off.

The runway number is always rounded to the neared 10. It could be 166 degrees magnetic, and the other 162 degrees magnetic.

As for the markings, it would appear they chose to put the aim point marker (the long solid blocks) in lieu of one of the 2-bar markings instead of a 3-bar.

The 3-bar markers are not the TDZ, the entire 3000 foot section of the runway with the markings is the TDZ. The 3-bar one is just the first 500 feet of the TDZ, The aimpoint marker (consider it the second 3-bar inmost cases) normally marks the 1000 foot point, here is marks the 1,500 foot point. The two 2-bar markings mark 1,500 and 2,000 feet, and the two 1-bar markers mark 2,500 and 3,000.

Goldenkevin: They also do that here in Canada.  It seems to be never (after looking at many examples of airports on google) done in the US.

For those of you looking at BlackPhoenixSim4's post it was my early concept of a wide asphalt runway.

nice! and for those who are waiting for wide airport lots, I do have some revamped airport textures using textures from voltaire's old wide ariport pack... I can show it to you if you want me... just request it.... they are not totally done, but could be kinda like a snapshot of things to come.

Will the next version be RMIP-3 or the RMIP-2 large airport edition?

RMIP-2 Large Airport Edition Volume 1, currently slated to be a new set of Runway lots. I'm going for a completely modern look with this whole Edition, so these will be 200-ft. (60 m) wide concrete runways with wide, dark-painted shoulders & full-length centerline dashes. Touchdown Zone lighting, too.

You know, I've been wondering. Even though you can't land jets on Non-precision/Visual Runways, can you let jets take off if it's a full length with a blast pad?

60m--- 3.75 tiles, if I'm not mistaken, round up to 4, that's twice as big as the old ones. Guess I'm glad I just started a new region, and haven't built the airport yet.

Not to be pushy, but do you have a general release date in mind?

I'm only planning on concrete for the wide runway set. Which will actually be 5 tiles wide btw. This will make a new construction scheme possible, where the centerlines are completely separate from the markings, and the markings separate from the exit taxiways. Most of the outer tiles are grass and shoulder, so 5 tiles isn't as gigantic as it sounds.

I just had an eerie revelation. That's the last airport "Sioux 248" landed at before crashing in a field in Waubun, MN on July 8th, 2004.

I don't recall there being a restriction on such things, at least in the states. They land on the Non-Precision runway at Spokane Intl all the time when winds strongly favor it. I haven't read through FAR Part 121 yet though either, but that's airline stuff, not necessarily jet stuff. If who ever made the comment that you can't, could you reference the FAR if you're talking US ops?

I wrote it (in error), it was an assumption based on flawed logic:

premise: In the US runways must be at least a certain length to qualify for Precision Instrument markings (fact)

premise: virtually all airliners need much more than that length to land, because of their weight and approach speed (also a fact)

conclusion: therefore airliners can only operate on precision runways

The argument is invalid, because long runways need not be precision. Also small jets don't need a long runway.

I can't wait for the screenshots later. I wanna see what it'll look like, not trying to be pushy or anything. Take all the time you need.
