Hi all!

I'm 28 years old, and I live in Fresno, California.  Originally, I'm from Monterey, CA, home of Pebble Beach Golf course and what I consider to be some of the most beautiful coastline in the entire world.

I work for a Commercial Development company, handling the sales and leasing.  Perhaps my love for Real Estate and City Planning is why I love the SimCity games so much.  I've been playing SimCity since the beginning of time, and have owned every version.  I bought SC4 Rush Hour the moment it came out, and I've been playing it ever since.

It's really the only video game I play, but I have to say that because of SIMTROPOLIS 44.gif, my gaming experience and love for SC4 has increased exponentially!

I thank everyone for their hard work on this website, and all the amazing BATS and MODS.  I don't know how you all do it, but I'm very much appreciative.  One day, I may do a CJ to demonstrate how I've used these amazing creations, but I haven't mustered the time or the courage!

My playing style is one where I build on realistic terrains, (the Monterey Coastline is my favorite, go figure).  Lately I've been experimenting with building train networks, and I'm having a blast.

Thanks for reading, and happy building!

Hi all, I have been lurking around the site for a while so thought I'd drop my info.  I am a 27 year old former management consultant and now student at the Kellogg School of Management, just north of Chicago.  As such, I have no time to play anymore, but still like to see what has been going on with the lots and BATs.  Someday I hope to start playing again when I get my summer internship lined up...

Hi SuperBeber!

You'll probably discover that a lot of people here are speaking French. They're quite difficult to spot on the forum because we're respecting the rule most of the time (English...) If you want to talk a little bit French, you can always PM me. Me too I played to all versions of SimCity, especially the first one. I had a 00086 XT with a black/amber screen, 2 360k floppy drives and no hard drive. I remember well a huge city reaching almost 3 millions sims... and a heartbreaking nuclear meltdown.

Bienvenue et

To all the new people, tanc24, Ducks quack lots, generalee7, and Superbeber, welcome to Simtropolis. 10.gif  Read the rules 49.gif for a better posting experience.  Read the tutorials 49.gif for a better game playing experience.  And ask in the appropriate forum when you have a question.  There are a lot of friendly and helpful members here who are only too willing to offer assistance if you ask.

tanc24:  Most people are trying to get from Fresno to Monterey not the other way around.  It must be a great job or a pretty girl, or both, to get you to Fresno.

Hi, I'm Marcus from Stockholm in Sweden. Soon 34 years old.

This is my first post here, though I've been lurking to and fro ever since this site opened. The main reason for not posting anything earlier is that all questions I've had could be found somewhere around here. Now I thought I'd break the silence and start posting some.

I'm quite an addict to the game and have been playing sim city in periods since the first version for Amiga came out back in the eighties. I haven't gone all the way into batting but I'm sure that if I would it would steal the remaing free time I have. So I'll stick to playing, that takes too much time anyway.
I'm downloading far too much from STEX and reading city journals too often. I hope there is someone who understands...my wife doesn't.

Anyway, I adore these forums and the wonderful things available to make the game better.

Good evening, y'all

Not as ancient as some, older than most, my (computer) life began with an apple ][+, an atari 800XL and a series of pcs beginning with a 486. SimCity is one of those few games that have accompanied me all along beginning with the first one (with the dark red copy-protection code sheets) and continuing with no end in sight.

38 now, architect and still 'wasting' time in this wonderful sandbox! I hope to keep my eyesight all the way to the nursing home and play SimCity 12 (with the deluxe tactile add-on) with all of you.

I'd like to thank Simtropolis for the wonderful STEX CD - such a nice gift! - the people at Maxis for making it all possible, my mother for doing what mothers do, the Academy for this nice little golden golem, Al Gore for the internet, John Kerry for the excellent memories, the Co*****************

Hello everyone. Been lurking here for some weeks now and have even registered and posted. This site is fantastic and I am awed by some of the talented individuals that put out the CJs here. I am equally amazed by all of the creations made available on the STEX....truly a marvel. ST is an amazing resource that IMHO misses the mark ever so slightly by not being idiot proof enough. I can say this because I have been told on occasion that I am an idiot and as such I should be qualified to say that this site needs some foam padding on the corners. Things shouldn't just be easy to find, they should be hard NOT to find. To that end I suggest.....

1. That someone please take the time to include in the Omnibus preferably some kind of repository of step by step directions on how to do common tasks such as make a sunken highway, make an underwater tunnel, make a larger roundabout, and so on. Tutorials on these common tasks should be in the Omnibus or on the front page in neon letters in a font so big my neighbors can read it from their sofa without their reading glasses. I enjoyed the great tutorial on more realistic beaches by Aleking and that is exactly what I am talking about.

2. a step by step tutorial with examples and non-examples of how to use the search feature on the forums and STEX to find exactly what you are looking for. YOU may be able to find things, but a newb can't because he doesn't know what he's looking for or who it's made by or wheter it is a lot, BAT, prop, mod or widget. I should know, I was once a newb.

These CJs are a crime! They show these masterpieces and you say OOOHHH! I am going to try that underground overpass subway thingy! and of course you fail miserably....

To provide an example of what I mean by idiot-proofing, maybe take some time to check out
www.civfanatics.com
this site has much in common with ST in that it has a huge fanbase of all ages and levels of tech-savviness, but it is better organized to handle the basic RTFM questions that arise everytime a new version is published. Of course modding is much more important for this game than Civilization which makes their job easier, but still very similar.

I do not mean to come off as being overly negative, I merely wanted to provide some constructive feedback with an example.

At any rate, glad to be here at this amazing site!

9.gif - I love the speak yer mind dont pull yer punches approach USMC - yer likely to get hammered for some of yer comments though - as I have been 9.gif. I especially like the comment about people viewing CJ's and then trying to emulate them only to fail miserably - thats a gold clock winner buddy 9.gif

I assume you ARE or WERE USMC - if so, like me, yer military - the military approach doesnt work with civilians buddy - as yer likely to find out 9.gif

Welcome to ST, USMC.  Thanks for the ideas.  Some people may not like the military approach but I like that you provided an idea and a possible solution for the mentioned problem.

Welcome to Simtropolis USMC! 44.gif Simtropolis is going to undergo a five point update in the coming weeks and some of your problems may be taken into consideration. The Simtropolis Help Squad are as their motto says bringing the omnibus into the future so they are probably going to be adding new articles to the Omnibus in the coming weeks. I advise you to type Mega Pack into the STEX and download all of them as they are quite a big chunk of all the dependancies you will ever need for the BATs and Lots you download and I also suggest you track some of the important files on the STEX by checking the box in the top right hand corner of the description window, this will tell you if there are any updates to that file when you enter the Overview section of the STEX here:
This page also shows the top rated BATs, Lots and Maps on the STEX. I hope you enjoy your time here at this site! 10.gif

Well, you probably don't know this since you have just recently been a member, but there is a group called the SHS that is trying to do the very thing that you are suggesting.  As sim1234 said, we are definitely working to make the suggestions that you made a reality.  However, sometimes this does go rather slowly, so as they say patience is a virtue.

Enjoy the site!44.gif
