Technical engineer Karsten Schmidt, working at Industrial Zone Wastewater, have invented a new filter, produced by HIQUEA Synthetic Material. The filter is able to isolate and separate heavy metals in the waste water, so that the dangerous and expensive raw material can be recycled. An expensive one-off investment, but resulting in a significantly reduced environmental impact.

The residents at D'Angelo Tower, have received a three months' notice from village authorities, the building need to be demolished, to make room for a road, leading into the area between the harbor and La Casa Nuestra.

    Finn Leroy, December 2050

Finn Leroy was born in 1974, in his parent’s modest apartment at Plantation Street, next to Bounty Bank. The son of circus artist Hugo Leroy, and university student Britta Timm. In 1975 his parents married and his mother took his father’s surname. Finn grew up in different cheap working-class flats, until his mother established herself as a doctor and the family could afford a fine home at Connection Passway, Harbor District, in the early 1990’s. Finn met Anne in 1996 and moved into her apartment. He graduated from Bounty University in 2008. Finn and Anne married and got two children. The family found a nice apartment in Cattle Road Residential Complex. Sadly, both children died from a rare genetic disorder in 2013. When the Legal Department of the President, was created in February 2022, Finn Leroy was hired to run the Legal department of the State Ministry. The couple was now very rich and bought a luxurious mansion on Sugar Road. Finn lost his father in June the same year. In 2028 Finn was offered a position as financial leader of Saint Mary's Hospital and the family bought one of the most expensive homes in the city, a modern mansion at North Harbor Road. Finn’s mother died in November 2029, his wife in April 2044. After living alone for three years, Finn met then 55 years old Chloé Ruiz in 2047, sold his expensive mansion and traveled the world with her. They came back at springtime and rented a modest flat, in a brand-new building on D’Angelo Island, while looking for a better home.

Finn and Chloé were the very first family, at the new blocks in D’Angelo Village.

    January 2051

Notes by State Statistics Department manager Adrián Romero:

“Despite the fact that immigration was restricted, family reunification and other legal means of migration have resulted in relatively high immigration numbers, in addition to some illegal immigration and political refugees. The result is that we still got very high unemployment rates, even higher that last season, and a growing lack of housing”

Short 2050 Report from State Statistics Department:

Top 3 Industrial Export: Electronics 31.475 coins, Jewelry 23.031 coins, Cigars 22.040 coins

Top 3 Raw Export: Meat 22.543 coins, Fish 16.149 coins, Wool 9.407 coins.

Tourist Industry: Accommodation 42.269 coins, Other Tourist Consumption: 18.764 coins

    Yearly balance: 59.445 coins.

Births Rate: 1,68%. Immigration Rate: 1,42%. Death Rate 2,75%. Emigration Rate: 0,00 %. Disappeared: 0,00%

    Unemployed: 6,28%, Job Vacancy 0,00%, Homeless: 1,83%

This year, it will be 100 years since, the first bus left a depot on Cepero Islands. The Depot was located at Pablo Gómez Road just south of Cepero Old Village. The bus line was running from Cepero Village with stop just outside Village Convenience Store, to the Community House in Saint Mary’s District, where Harbor Road Shopping Mall is today. The bus line was changed several times, but the building survived until the beginning of 2009, where it was torn down to make room for Cepero Theater.

The situation with full employment, Bounty Islands have seen over the latest years, have resulted in increased wages, especially amongst the well-educated part of the population. In recent negotiations between Minister of finance Chloé Lambert and the Association of University Graduates, certain areas saw wages rise by up to 15%.

Newly graduated lawyers, like Raquel Laurent, working at the "Legal Department of the President" got an increase from hourly 150 pieces to hourly 225 pieces. Living in the City she invested in a new German car, having some distance to her workplace in Cepero Town.

I came here after @catty-cb reminded me of your city journal as being one of the longest-running ones and full of detailed, captivating writing which I always respect. I am not disappointed. *:)

It's a clever approach to use one of the Tropico's greatest assets - individual humans - as an inspiration for parts of the story. It makes the journal more personal and deeper in content.

I have to ask how you manage to stomach Tropico's short in-game year length? If I remember correctly it lasts just 45 seconds on the slowest game speed! * I was always furious about this. The years in this game go by too fast! :noway:

Thanks - Glad you like the story. *:)

Regarding the in-game year length - I do reload a lot, often to follow individuals for a period - or just check old saves, then return to "Current Month" to continue, so in-game speed doesn't really matter much, making this story. Never the less time truly flew by very fast the first 60-70 years or more. At that point I had just a few yearly posts . That slowly changed though, and now I have so much "back-history" with more and more storylines, it is no problem to post monthly sometimes with two posts a month. If you play "normally" I agree a year is quite short, but the way I play, following 60-70 individual lives - a lot happens all the time. I have to not drop new stuff all the time, otherwise not enough months to post about it, so I patiently have to wait until a building goes up - post - wait some month - and then maybe place something new. Otherwise it would go way to fast compared to my intentions of keeping a lot of focus on individual life and other not building related storylines.

    February 2051

The 16th of February, Minister of Internal Fairs Alejandro Pérez inaugurated the new “Atlantic Windmill Park”, at the remote upper west corner of Main Bounty Island. Without question the most complicated and expensive public construction project to date. Construction began in March 2049, draining Bounty Island’s construction capacity for almost two years.

The park was constructed at the windy west tip if North District, where the Passage of Rocks flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

    Important Families: Leroy

Arthur M. Leroy was born in the town of Tournefeuille, France in 1902, the son of wealthy merchant Merlin Leroy and his 2nd wife Lalou Bize Leroy. He was educated at the University of Toulouse and soon married Chiara Bourbon. In 1928 Arthur was invited by Bounty’s transitional government, getting an important position at the Department of Political Science. The couple traveled to Bounty and in 1930 they got their son Noddy. During the late 30’s and early 40’s the couple had become part of the new well educated upper class, with friends like Jane & Lorenzo Brissi, Dirk & Heike Schubert and Jakub Piotrowski. Chiara Leroy now working as criminal investigator, after Noddy started school.

In 1945 Arthur M. Leroy wrote “Leroy’s Multi Culture” and thereby published his revolutionary method of farming. He rose to fame within scientific circles. Inventing a farming method, without manure speeding, which would be dominating on the Islands within the next few years. In 1956 Chiara Leroy was gunned down in a shootout with drug dealers, never recovering fully. She retired from the police, opening a cotton plantation outside Old Cepero Village. In the late 1950’s Arthur suggested in scientific publications, that Bounty Islands might contain large reserves of iron, based on its geological profile. Arthur M. Leroy backed by Foreign Minister Jeanne Smirnov, invested in exploration to and anthropology studies of, the original ancient tribes use of metal. Carried out by special agent Aurora Brissi. Resulting in test drilling and later establishment of the iron mine in mountain village. Arthur idea was eventually to make Bounty independent of foreign weapon import. In 1962 a joint venture owned by Arthur’s private estate, The Schubert Family, R. Johnson Holdings and the government, created M. Leroy JV, the company behind a new steel plant, located in the south part of what was later to become Cepero Industrial Zone.

     M. Leroy Steel JV, today

    wVa1KyB.jpg

Tragically, Arthur’s son Noddy Leroy got a tumor in the brain and passed away in 1964. Arthur M. Leroy died in May 1965, just a few months after his son’s tragic death. In 1968 Defense Minister Rubén Álvarez opened M. Leroy Firearms JV in Lucia Village, South District. Arthur did not live to see his vision fulfilled but his widow and daughter in law with the grandchildren was invited. Chiara Leroy retired completely in the early 70’s and sold her plantation to R. Johnson Holdings. Spending her last years living a quite live with a new man, Italian Baron, Lorenzo XIV. Lorenzo died in 1978. Chiara Leroy the following year, she lived to be 73 years old. Noddy Leroy died early but left behind his widow Cristina Leroy and his sons Ángel Leroy, Jon Leroy and Hugo Leroy. Cristina Leroy found new love in Alejandro García. In 1972 Jon died just 15 years old in a traffic accidence. Ángel Leroy died 19 years old from tropical fever in 1980. Cristina Leroy was originally in the Police just as her mother-in-law, but in the mid 70’s she joined the army, until her retirement. She passed away in January 2005. An investigation into the general health on Bounty Islands carried out from 1999 to 2000 revealed serious health problems in Lucia Village, pointing towards the polluting weapons factory. The old factory was demolished and a new opened in 2001 further south of the village.

After living with a girl named Noa García in a social apartment at Plateau Village, Hugo Leroy met Britta and they married. Britta gave birth to their son Finn in 1974, while still at university. They lived from some shares in M. Leroy JV and what Hugo could earn as line dancer. Britta Leroy became a respected doctor, first at Bounty City Hospital, later working at the University Research Laboratory. As Britta was the major source of income, Hugo mainly took care of the house. Hugo Leroy died 71 years old in 2022, Britta Leroy 82 years old in 2029. As Finn Leroy lost both his children in 2013, he will be the last descendant after Arthur M. Leroy. Finn Leroy was born in 1974, Finn met Anne in 1996 and moved into her apartment. He graduated from Bounty University in 2008. Finn and Anne married and got two children. Sadly, both died in 2013. When the Legal Department of the President, was created in February 2022, Finn Leroy was hired to run the Legal department of the State Ministry. Anne died in 2044. Finn met the somewhat younger Chloé Ruiz and traveled the world with her. Today (feb. 2051) he just turned 77, and is back on Bounty Islands.

    April 2051

In a publication by the Finance Ministry, head of department Lily D'Angelo, predicts a shortage of certain luxury goods on the world market, in the near future. She expects pricing of sailing ships and smaller private wooden boats to rise, also the new modern multifunctional furniture brands are no longer able to meet customer demand and the same goes for the smaller luxury goods, such as high-quality tobacco products and vine. It may also be the case with jewelry, although the demand right now, seems to be stabilized. The President’s Office just signed a lucrative jewelry deal with Russia, worth 197.236 coins

Lily D'Angelo is a 54 years old mother of two, married to brigadier general Leonardo D'Angelo.

The family lives in a mansion at the desirable Monica Ruiz Residential Area, between Fenna Chapel and Museo de Arte Moderno.

TV1 City’s “Political News Today” reports:

President Carla Bruno, today attend a meeting in United Nations, regarding the billions of people around the world living in extreme poverty. Allegedly the president has donated 7.500 coins to help poor women in Latin American countries, 7.500 coins to help establishing refugee camps in the Middle East and 5000 coins to fight child labor in Asia. We are not able to get a comment from the president, but in an interview with Minister of Finance, Chloé Lambert she said: “The days when Bounty Islands received foreign aid are long gone. We are as a wealthy nation, committed to help with humanitarian work. We will possibly see a deficit in the state's finances this year, but long term, we will not have a financial problem with a donation of this size.”

This morning the parliament agreed on a proposal from Minister of Internal Affairs Alejandro Pérez (Green Revolution), regarding North District. The intension in the proposal is to recreate North District as a rural area. The government itself will attempt to find suitable locations for the Powerplants elsewhere. R. Johnson Holdings have been informed, and will receive a compensation if they relocate R. Johnson SunWear and R.J. Caribbean Fashion Design voluntarily. When all that is done biology Professor Javier Gutiérrez have been hired to attempt a reforestation of North District. The Minister explained in an interview: “It is not that we are aiming to shut down the two important historical villages, what we would like to see is a historical unspoiled rural district, with old fashion farms, plantations, coconut harvesters, miners and logging camps, with as little pollution as possible and a thriving jungle surrounding the villages.” Opposition leader Jack Taylor (Humanity First) commented to TV1 City: “I find a proposal like that directly ridiculous. It is fine if the government want to move their powerplants, but why bother factory owners with that kind of socialistic nonsense, not to mention several home owners at Mountain Village, who bought a mansion, soon to become worthless, with all the well-paid job gone, no mention of compensation for those unfortunate people”

Council Member Montserrat Romero, owner of a mansion at Mountain Village, have been fighting Minister Alejandro Pérez ideas from the beginning, but it seems she lost this time.

Bounty Airport, got an underground section, with shops, café and restaurant, and most importantly a Metro Station. Two additional metro stations are under construction, one at D'Angelo Beach Resort, the other in the center of D'Angelo Village. Sarcastic locals have nicknamed the coming line “The Tourist Metro”, which is not entirely fair, as the locals who work in areas around the airport or in the resort, will also get fast public transport.

After request from Moria Johnson, The Ministry of Internal Affairs bought some houses in Saint Mary’s district and including the former Ministry Square the area was handed over to the textile company as compensation for voluntarily relocating from North District. Whereafter R.J. Caribbean Fashion Design could create their new workshop, exhibition center and outlet, at the edge of Chinatown.

Art History of Bounty Islands: Classic Period Painting

Despite the title, this page is exclusively about the art created by the immigrants colonizing Bounty Islands, for information on Native Art Metropolitan Museum of Art's brilliant page on the subject or visit “Museum of Original Culture” at Adrian Pérez Road.

Although artworks, especially paintings existed from the Puerto Ricon settlement as early as the 17th century, they are interesting historically, but has very little artistic value and are often hard to connect to any particular artist. Interesting art with artistic value does not really appear until the 20th century.

The first remarkable artist to live and work on Bounty Island was Italian born painter Leonardo De Luca, very little is known about his years in Italy, but immigration papers from Bounty Harbor shows he came to Bounty, at the age of 30 in 1906, with a just 17 years old German girl named Petra. They married in 1910 when she got pregnant. The family was extremely poor, with long periods of unemployment living in a shag at Coconut Road. At some point between 1914 and 1916 Leonardo started painting and selling art to the local town’s people, sadly all his early works are lost, but from 1917 onwards he had become a respected artist and we got surviving paintings from this period. We know from papers her family kept, that gold miner Noa Vincent bought his painting "Girl and a Glass of Vine" in 1918, one of his most famous.

Less important, but worth a mention was Evi Laurent, she did not become very popular in her own time and was almost forgotten, but in the latest decade auction prices on her works are constantly growing, with the new interest in female artists. She had a studio in the Cultural House in the late 20’s, and was quite productive. Her masterpiece is the portrait of Cristina Cepero, shown below.

John Walsh was born in Norwood, London 1910. How this poor working-class man got to Bounty Islands, we don’t know. What we know is that he worked in the tobacco fields in the late 30’s and made some simple but brilliant illustrations of rural life on Cepero Island. In 1941 he got a job at Original Bounty Rum, where he worked until the end of the 50’s. In the 60’s he married Jane and worked with different unskilled jobs, still living in the city. John Walsh died in the late 1960. At the time completely unknown to the public. Today considered Bounty’s most important working-class artist and one of the most famous artists, possibly only 2nd to Wolf. Traditionally, his early works have been considered the most interesting, but his later works have become more and more popular, with their almost surreal depictions of life on the backside of society. John Walsh did not always sign his art, but the provenance of all paintings shown have been established.

    October 2051

    Bounty FM’s Ángel Rodríguez reports:

The pricing on houses have seen a new development over the latest four to five months. Likely due to an increase in income differences between the uneducated workers and lower middle class and the well educated upper class, based of the lack of highly qualified employees in combination with high unemployment amongst the uneducated. What we have seen is that while cheaper older homes in less desirable areas, have fallen in price, the larger homes in desirable areas have skyrocket. An example of this is the “Mansion of Dr. Sofia Pellegrin”, in the middle of September it became vacant, and was put on the market at 2599 coins, a price level we have never seen before at Bounty Islands. The mansion is of course unique, but never the less. The 12th of October the mansion was sold, the new owners are homosexual couple Max Van de Berg, doctor at Cattle Road Clinic and legal adviser Álvaro Vázquez, previously living together at the top floor of The Yellow Hacienda. According to Mr. Vázquez, the final offer was 2459 coins, the couple might rent out some of the many rooms.

    November 2051

As the most important administration with New Parliament Building, Legal Department of the President, the Secret Bounty Military headquarter and the Defense Headquarters was located at Cepero Island, as well as the majority of production capacity. The government passed a law, declaring that what was previously Cepero Town, was officially renamed to Capital City of The Republican Nation of Bounty Islands, alternatively Cepero Capital City or just Cepero City. At the same time Miner’s Village and D’Angelo Village, was both upgraded to town status, with more independent administration. Bounty City was still by far the largest city and the cultural and financial capital of Bounty Islands and possibly for many generations to come, would be seen as the most important and interesting place to be.

Professor Javier Gutiérrez’s reforestation project at North Jungle Nature Reserve, starting in august 2050, has been a huge success. The expensive and very rare tree species found in the Brazilian jungle, have grown even faster than expected. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs homepage, it will not be allowed to harvest or in any way use the area to gain commercial profit. Although so far, the area is not a part of the official protected natural habitats.

86 signs warning about the danger of poisonous snakes, was erected around the new thriving jungle, after several dogs and a child was bitten, luckily the child survived.

Former chairman of Sullivan Oil, Dolores Sullivan died 93 years old. Dolores Sullivan was born in January 1958, in a nice apartment on Chapel Road. The daughter of Chiara Sullivan, better known as Sister Sullivan. At the age of 24, she met miner Alexandre Martin, with whom she got her three sons, Ronnie, Mikel and Noah. Only Ronnie survived the first difficult years and Dolores blamed the pollution from M. Leroy Firearms, located in Lucia Village at the time, for the death of her two sons, until her last day. After losing her mother in 2003, Dolores Sullivan became chairman of Sullivan Oil. She lost her husband in the summer of 2007. Dolores retired in 2036, leaving Sullivan Oil in the hands of her son Ronnie.

Thank a lot *:)  It is a very unique game due to the ability to actually follow families over generation and very deep statistic information, making it easier to come up with different stories (somewhat) based on in-game facts.

    January 2052

Traditionally the Bounty government has sponsored a series of TV programs, aiming at educating every new generation, with historic material and different aspect of society as well as resent developments on the Districts. The last series of programs date back to 2038. It is now time for another. The first program will run at the end of January, with weekly shows over several months.

Short 2051 Report from State Statistics Department:

Adrián Romero from State Statistics Department explains: “This year we saw the worst ever result on the yearly balance of Bounty Islands, but there are some explanations for this. Most notably the construction of a new Nuclear Plant, combined with large investments in reforestation and high foreign aid payments. The economy is still reasonably healthy, although there were also some problems with industry production and unexpected wage increases.”

Top 3 Industrial Export: Rum 26.553 coins, Electronics 15.264 coins, Cloth 13.264 coins

Top 3 Raw Export: Meat 22.407 coins, Fish 17.593 coins, Coal 9.601 coins.

Tourist Industry: Accommodation 44.959 coins, Other Tourist Consumption: 16.487 coins

    Yearly balance: -77.503 coins.

Births Rate: 2,71%. Immigration Rate: 0,00%. Death Rate 1,86%. Emigration Rate: 0,00 %. Disappeared: 0,00%

    Unemployed: 5,99%, Job Vacancy 0,39%, Homeless: 1,93%

This year it will be 100 years since the state prison was constructed and replaced the first small prison. Bounty's first prison only survived 18 years from 1934 to 1952. The living conditions in the cold and damped building was simply too unhealthy, both for the inmates and the guards.

    Myrthe Sullivan, Jan. 2052

Myrthe Sullivan was born in April 1985 at South Cepero Road, Lucia Village. The daughter of Shana and Lucas Sullivan and the oldest of three siblings. With an alcoholic father and a weak mother, she was a large part of the younger children’s upbringing, especially little brother Cristobal born in 2002. Myrthe was educated from President Williams School, but despite being exceptional bright, she had no time to take a higher education. Myrthe left her parents in 2004, living alone in small apartment at Shack Village Road, Presidente Jakub District. In 2010 she met French Victor Dubois and soon he moved into her small apartment. Myrthe's mother Shana died in 2016. The couple moved around for a while and ended in an apartment on Sugar Square, where they married and she gave birth to Carl S. Dubois in 2020 and Luca S. Dubois in 2022. Soon after, the family moved to a larger apartment in Fenna Tower. In the early 2030’s Victor Dubois got involved with Loyal to Familia, but was able to leave in good standing. A few years later he got a position in Arms Gallery, a gun store at Cepero Department Store. Myrthe had many different jobs in her youth, but since 2039 she has been at Jørgen Jensen Agricultural Park. Today a senior project manager making 93 pieces an hour. Victor Dubois left Arms Gallery, and spend a short period at SPF coconut depot, later he got a job at Bounty Cigar, before he was hired by Industrial Zone Wastewater in 2047, where he still works. The job is hard and dirty, but the paycheck also very good. Victor Dubois makes 181 pieces an hour. The couple belongs to the 10% best paid families at Bounty Islands, despite not having any college or university degrees. They bought a rather small apartment at the 5th floor of Cepero Beach Project in 2049, this was before the price explosion, the price was 227 coins, today it would be more than 270.

    Friday 26th of January 2052

Today at TV1 City: National Economy, Budget Balance and Social Groups.

Beside a few programs with focus on some statistics figures about the nation, this series of programs will focus on the developments of the different areas of Bounty in the period from 2038 until today. We will start with a program about the development of the overall National Economy, analysis of the Budget Balance and the development of Social Groups.

Map of urban development January 2052.

    UmpMGrC.jpg

    National Economy:

Below we got a simple graph, showing the development from 2038 to 2051 in BNP, Total Spending and the National Balance. The graph shows that BNP have seen a slow but steady growth over the period, and the same goes for spending. Notably we have had a nice surplus overall, but the latest year resulted in a large negative. More about that when we look at the balance in the next graph.

    5veabeI.jpg

    Budget Balance:

In the graph below, we see the budget balance, split up in sub-categories, for the years 2023, 2038 and last year. In the top we see the income and expenses for the chosen years. As mentioned above, 2051 comes out with a huge negative result. Compared to previously basically all income areas have improved, but spendings has increased faster. If you ask the government, they claim that the high construction cost during 2051 are misleading, whereas higher wages and maintenance, reflect better living standards and is a good thing. If you ask the opposition, they are worried about the trends of especially increased wages and social cost, which they see as a result of the governments failed politics and indecisiveness when it comes to face the nations challenges. Making it harder and harder for Bounty industries on a competitive international market.

    v0jRrUi.jpg

    Social Groups:

Below we see a graph, illustrating the social movement from 2038 to 2051. Overall, the changes are small, things like this do not happen fast. Anyway, there is some trends and interesting developments. To start from the top the upper class is growing, from under 10% in 2038 slowly grew to more than 15% in 2051. The opposite is the case with the middle class, the first few years they lost some % to the working class, bounced back but from 2047-2048 they have lost again, seemingly losing % both moving up and down. The working class was growing a lot the first 4-5 years, but then suddenly it looked like some got better jobs and started moving up. Lately though the class have grown, likely due to many uneducated immigrants finding work in the tourist industry. The number of underprivileged have been quite stable, although we can see a small increase, with high unemployment the latest years. Notably this is %, with a growing population, upgoing trends would be bigger if shown as number of persons. Whereas, down going trends, may be closer to status quo, if shown as number of persons.

    p8axkjQ.jpg

Not only is the upper class growing over the latest years, but the income gap between the wealthiest and the poorest working class families are also growing. Today a family like National Banks manager Ane van Dijk and her husband, former president of HIQUEA Ltd, Yannick Van Dijk, now financial consultant at the bank, got a combined monthly income of 203.538 pieces. Bus driver Sem de Groot, his wife plantation worker Angelique and there two children have to survive on just 16476 pieces.
