This thread is intended for asking questions to receive short and simple solutions. *:read:

It is meant to be a place where it's easy to reply and quick to receive answers, instead of opening a new topic each time. For example, to ask about keyboard shortcuts, how to use a cheat command, or game versions like between a patched and unpatched game. Maybe even a post someone made for a gameplay tip.

That said, we very much encourage members to open a new topic for asking anything which might lead to a discussion, or a sequence of replies on the same subject. That way it allows people to find topics when searching for particular questions.

So if you're here and that applies, please consider opening a new:

Just a quick question on MGB - No Grass NAM (NGN). When I intall this mod, it works correctly with the sidewalks having no grass, however it overrides my custom street textures. Is this an issue of mod load order, or something else?

There is an option in the installer where you can de-select Maxis Streets. If you have a custom street mod you should not install NGN for streets. The same can be accomplished by finding the install folder for NGN and removing the Streets folder entirely.

Do note however, NGN doesn’t remove grass from textures, it replaces textures with a new set without grass. So if your custom mod doesn’t do this, then you will end up with grass on the streets in this scenario.

Which custom streets are you using? Most have the option to create custom sets using GoFSH, so there is usually a way to remove the grass and keep your custom streets.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thank you for the heads up! @rsc204

 I'm currently using WWS WestWind Streets mod. I had a few issues prior with the Cul-De-Sacs that have now thankfully been rectified.

I am trying to figure out where to place the terrain mod Sudden Valley in the load order so that it doesn't CTD when opening a map for city. I am using sc4pac, but SV is not available there - I need to install it manually

Sudden Valley is an HD terrain mod, and will crash to desktop if installed in a game that's running with software rendering, regardless of where is installed.

You have two options: modify your graphics configuration to use hardware rendering (which, for the most part nowadays, requires the use of a DirectX wrapper like DgVoodoo2), or to switch to an SD terrain mod, like the ones made by Cycledogg (also known as CP or CPT)

Much thanks for your explanation. I am now running dgvoodoo and hw is on. The issue was I wrongly understood the SV instructions and refrained from using the Textures B .dat file. It's working now and I am so happy.

Speaking of Terrain mods.

Can you folks suggest an HD Terrain mod I can use that's as green and lush looking as Cycledogg's Olympia and/or Meadowshire Terrain mods?

I know both of those have field textures that are too green and look somewhat artificial, as if someone replaced all of the greenery all over the world with Lawn/Football stadium grass, but I just love how green things look with it.

Anyway, did anybody ever make an HD Terrain mod that features the same intensity of greenery like on those two I mentioned?

Not HD, but does Cycledogg's Missouri Breaks fit with what you're looking for?

Let's try something:

Is this table visible?
no yes
Does it break the forum's formatting? yes Total failure Sad but expectable
no At least we didn't do damage Total success!

Ok, it works making the table on HTML and inserting it on the comment with the Source button, but for some reason the borders aren't visible...

Source button

Yeah, that is the way. However, only Staff have said Source button. *:ninja:

So what we can do is have you create the html for a table and one of us can edit it into place. Just stick it into a Code Block like this:

<table style="width:100%; border-collapse:collapse; font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">
  <tr style="background-color:#d0d0d0;">
    <th colspan="3" style="padding:10px; text-align:center; font-size:18px;">SimCity 4 Regional Stats Overview</th>
  </tr>
  <tr style="background-color:#ffffff;">
    <th style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">City Name</th>
    <th style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">Population</th>
    <th style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">Mayor Rating</th>
  </tr>
  <tr style="background-color:#f0f0f0;">
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">New Arcadia</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">125,000</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">92%</td>
  </tr>
  <tr style="background-color:#ffffff;">
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">Bayview Heights</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">87,500</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">88%</td>
  </tr>
  <tr style="background-color:#f0f0f0;">
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">Greenwood</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">54,300</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">95%</td>
  </tr>
  <tr style="background-color:#ffffff;">
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">Ironclad Point</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">102,600</td>
    <td style="padding:8px; border:1px solid #ccc;">89%</td>
  </tr>
</table>

And then we can make it look like this:

SimCity 4 Regional Stats Overview
City Name Population Mayor Rating
New Arcadia 125,000 92%
Bayview Heights 87,500 88%
Greenwood 54,300 95%
Ironclad Point 102,600 89%

For the life of me my region does not want to load upon game start, always getting Timbuktu.

It's just Bananaland V2 renamed to my custom name, with same name put in region.ini in the Name = line. What am I doing wrong?

Another annoyance is the game always asks about reconciliating edges although I always tick not to ask again. Cheers.

EDIT: I tried qutting out to region and quitting game, did not help either

@outdatedSIM

It sounds very much like SimCity 4.cfg is not getting updated. I don't know why, but that's prolly the thing to troubleshoot. Maybe your OS thinks the game is hacking it and kindly resets it to a previous copy each time?

It's on another drive where I keep all hacked stuff, permissions look fine. You think some Windows Defender put it's hand on it?

I really have no idea. *:blush:

The only thing I feel certain of is that it's not getting updated by the game (or it is and it's getting reset). My own setup has it in the default location so I'm unable to test anything.

Yeah that fits the bill as well but it's not HD as you noted though.

Too bad nobody created an HD Terrain mod that uses a strikingly lusher shade of green for grassy areas because it does kinda look synthetically green.

Hey , I have a quick one, you guys know when you plop a water transport menu item and it sinks your terrain, like you have it all leveled and you land it on the shore and there goes your level sunk down ... is there a way to prevent that from happening ? I am trying to make a water front , some pieces are keeping my level when I  do  road tiles beside, but some insist to sink. If there any solution, technique, procedure, let me know , that will be much appreciated !

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.. so here's a picture .. The stuff I plop keeps sinking .. I wonder if there's a way to avoid that .. I have tried raising  the tiles, but either it gets taller or sink ..

I seem to recall I plopped road stubs all around the perimeter of the building I planned to plop so it outlines the footprint of the lot.

Ah! It's starting to come back to me now. I used the Peg Leveler Lot to get them down to a wee tiny bit above sea level and then I plopped all my road stubs to keep things at an even height.

So all my decks and docks and such were starting out lower than yours.

The main issue is that you use the boardwalk pieces in the wrong way. Your enbankement is too high. I don't know the exact terrain behaviour and parameters, but to place these near water/partially water pieces, the edge of the embankment needs be very close to the actual water surface. PEG created these CDK terraforming lots, which do specificaly that, flatten the terrain near to the water on the right height. You need to use those, then use the road tool around them tile-by-tile to flatten the terrain, and then you can demolish these leveler lots, then you can start plopping the actual waterfront lots (like these marina/boardwalk lots).

Based on your image, you need to bring down the whole section (probably including those plazas too) to the water/beach level.

I heard somewhere that one cannot have high CO demand in SC4 without a significant industry sector. The reasoning was that offices and corporations need to sell products and goods in order to exist.

Is this true?
