It is possible to build rail over highway, but it does need to be ground level highway and from testing I've found it requires the NAM as well.

    Here's a preview:

    Rail Over Highway Test 01.jpg

I then tried using the 15m hole raising lot to create an embankment for the railway, but this didn't quite go to plan as I hoped:

    Rail Over Highway Test 02.jpg

(The trees I planted to help the environment. Even though this was a test city, I made an executive mayoral decision that the bare landscape needed some.)

Ideally the rail should be on a level, and then the highway remains flat to the ground. It wouldn't be very true to the real world in how rail goes up and down so steeply. Well, not unless it's meant to be a roller coaster ride. Maybe the NAM experts might know how to do it more realistically than I tried in my quick test. *;)

I've just located in old files, a set by marrast, of underpasses which include rail over highway, road and street, all at ground level height. I doubt if you'll find it, as I've searched too. It was got from DEV, I believe, so you can ask around there, if you're a member. They are eye-candy only though, not functional, but they do look good.

Rail over a 15m sunken highway is simple, you just need to use the onslope transition pieces.  It is functional too.

I haven't used them in years, so not sure about functionality. I only know what I read on DEV. They are definitely not part of NAM, as parts of the set were in Parks, and other parts in Landmarks. At least, that was the case until I moved them all to Transportation.

The NAM includes Flexible Underpasses in the Roads menu, but I think the option to install them needs to be selected in the installer. They look pretty much identical to the underpass lots.

I have the latest version of NAM and I ticked everything off when I installed it. These are the only 2 underpasses I have had in the game-

No rail underpasses. And the road UP defaults to one-way every time I go to turn it. Which is why I went in search of the old set(amongst other things). I've had that set since 2006, and I don't remember seeing it in the 3 previous NAMs I have. And no problems with the old one either.

Edit: They just showed up in another Google search, which I didn't get the other day. They were a standalone set as of 2007. Here at DEV-

You gotta rotate it a bunch of times, then you can access the non one way roads and the rest of the FLUP series.

With the other set, it's an easy plop. This is the thread that I based my conclusions on-

According to this, the original set was accidentally deleted.

I don't know what DEV is, but FLUPs are a NAM component, they ABSOLUTELY work and are part of the NAM. Here's a few I made earlier...

Using I guess NAM 33, the video is 5 years old.

Marrast made some models and either they were eye-candy or TE-enabled to make them work. The NAM team saw the models and they were good, so we got permission to include them, but did that NAM magic that requires special code, making them truly functional pieces. If you have the NAM, you DO NOT need the originals, but they do exist in some of Marrast's files because of their origins.

Well, perhaps relying on 14 year old data is perhaps where you've gone wrong?

Rail underpasses are NOT part of FLUPs, but another legacy NAM feature, URail. However, FLUPs include the following RAMP types:

    • Road
    • OWR
    • Avenue
    • Tram in Avenue
    • Street
    • Street Tunnel (for embankments)
    • Pedestrian Stairs (subway)

Additional GLR options exist in the Misc Transit Menus for GLR/TiR/TiA networks, most of which were originally sourced from 3rd party mods/models too.

All of which are for me totally indispensable to have, I've been using these since I began using NAM. There is no need to be defensive here, you simply have somehow got the wrong idea, but the facts are obvious if you choose to accept them. P.s., the linked video should help show you how to use these properly.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I don't know what DEV is...

SimCity 4 Devotion (sometimes called SimCity 4 Dev, SC4D, or SC4Dev) is a SimCity fansite, founded by jeronij. The site was launched back on November of 2006 with a few members then by early 2007 the site gained membership, especially after Simtropolis was hacked for three days. It has roughly 9,000 members and it is still growing.

The site features the "LEX", which is similar to the STEX on Simtropolis. The LEX features many mods, lots, BATs and other programs. The LEX does require that a user wishing to upload go through a scrutiny process where a group of players selected from the community will check the file over to make sure its properly modded and don't cause any harm to the end user.

SC4D is home to the BSC and NAM Teams, as well as many other BAT Teams such as ITC and LBT. There are many more who consider SC4D their home at this time and they have a respective board there.

It's the result of a GOOGLE( Going Over and Over, Getting Less Educated) search, as using site searches usually results in Bupkis!

    ???

Bottom line, thank you for your help taking me down memory lane with basic NAM usage, but I make mostly candy cities now, and don't really care if things function, just look good and easy to plop.

Hi @City_Slider, you might find this URail feature useful at some point.  It's very similar to a FLUPs underpass, but it's not FLUPs, it's URail (Underground Rail).

There's whole sets of URail features, but this "Straight URail under Perpendicular Straight Ground Highway" is one of the most useful, I think.  This screenshot is using NAM 36, but I presume it's much the same in NAM 38?

    5fc358c1e0f36_StraightURailunderMHW.jpg.865d940cb8298168b56ea051b3f1811d.jpg

Red arrows point out the two menu items you need.  The pieces are near the end of the TAB ring, so it's quicker to find them using Shift+Tab.

I believe these URail features even allow freight trains to pass through, but I haven't played with these features in-game yet.  If you decide to build it, please do let us know how it goes!  *:ohyes:
