I have been playing this game for quite a while, several hours, about two days ago I have encounter that when placing trains and monorail stations, either next to a road or something, that there's no trains on the stations and the same with the monorails stations, This is very frustrating. And what I don't understand that this is a digital copy and Origin can't even help me resolve this issue. The game works good and the bus line works good. How can I resolve this?  I don't get an answer anywhere.  I'm about to tell Origin to remove it

So, can anyone help me with an answer?

Thanks

Hiya, @skipper6780. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

For the trains, take a look at this post. Then for the monorail, set up a similar test such that your Sims have no choice except to use it to get to their jobs and see how that goes.

Origin est basura. Demand your money back. Buy digital from GoG using the link that @CorinaMarie is about to paste for you (because it kicks back a few cents to support this site).

Welcome to Simtropolis, @skipper6780!   You're in the right place to get good information here.

Sim transit, either road or rail, is always about the fastest way to get from home to work.

Here's the most common reasons that sims are not using a railway:

  1. Sims don't like to take detours, so if the rail is the most direct route, they'll take the rail.  If the road is the most direct route, they'll take the road, especially if it's a highway.

  2. Even worse than detours, sims don't like to back track.  If getting from home to work means they have to go backwards to reach a suburban train station, or they have to go backwards from the destination train station to reach their work, they're really likely to catch a bus or drive their car instead.

  3. Some kind of break in the train line, or an incorrect connection between rail and station, can cause either the station, or even the entire line, to fail at that point.  If there are some dubious connection points in the line, try temporarily replacing them with simple straightforward track that you're sure will work.  @CorinaMarie's suggestions about testing it by making the train line the ONLY way to commute from home to work, is the best way to check for sure.

  4. Another reason that sims don't take the train, is because it's too far to walk to work from the destination train station.  They can drive their car to the suburban train station (if you're using the Maxis Passenger Train Station) ...
                   SimCity-1-small.jpg
... but they can't put their car in their pocket, to drive from the destination train station to work ... they have to either walk, or catch a bus, or something.  If you don't have enough bus stops in your workplace districts, AND an accessible bus stop near the destination train station, then your sims won't like catching the train.  *

That fourth point, is made worse by the Transit Lot Adjacency Bug, which I describe on this other post.  Basically, a Bus Stop and a Passenger Train Station will not work together for a single commute journey if they share a side, but they will work together if there is a 1 tile gap, or if they share a corner.  There is no fix for the Transit Lot Adjacency Bug; but the game works fine as long as you know what to do.  Follow the link to find out more.

Are you using the NAM, the fact that you are using an Origin edition is especially important here because of the following information. If you don't have the fully patched version, installing the NAM is going to be a non-starter. But worse, your game in missing 17 year old patches everyone else has, which you won't be able to install.

At the core of the NAM mod, is a series of useful additions and fixes that vastly improve the experience of playing SC4. Of course it won't compensate for not getting your transit networks built correctly, but it does give your sims more freedom to make use of Mass Transit.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
