Just a quick note here...

Speaking as a staff member, we will allow members to share their own invitation codes or account credentials in private only. So if able to help in this way, please communicate via PM since then only the intended recipient would have details to register and use a SimCity China account. *;)

Thanks.

Also, I checked how to do it, and most probably no casual, non-chinese user could do that: it requires certain 'points' to allow an account to invite others. I assume that those points are earned by using their forums or uploading content, things that are off-limits to most of us, due to the language barrier.

It would be quite interesting if some of our staff members who can navigate that site found incontrovertible evidence if they have unauthorized STEX content hosted over there. IMO that would show if they've already set a precedent how they feel author's rights should be respected (or not). *;)

No question that's the case, the whole site is founded on the principle of people uploading the works of others without permission. For example, many of my early mods are there, but not the larger texture mods, because I presume file size limitations. I know I didn't upload them or give permission. Similarly, back a few years, as soon as something new appeared on the PLEX, STEX or LEX, it would make it's way to simcity.cn within a day or two. Simply no way were the creators authorising that.

It's hardly surprising though, since many Chinese users have no access to the unrestricted WWW. So those who did have uploaded them on a Chinese site, allowing them to be accessed. Similarly, the restrictions on accounts are likely due to political changes in China necessitating a crack-down on non-Chinese users.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

With that being the case I see no reason to not share files which can only be found there. I wouldn't go so far as to allow them on our STEX, but if they were attached to a post in a random thread or sent via PM it would be a tit for tat situation in which they would have no moral grounds to object to.

Well, that's just it. If we think through this actually there isn't anything what could hold back one or more people to download everything from the existing exchanges (even from SimCity CN), make a new hosting site and upload everything into one place... But this is a different conversation again... The whole founding rule of how we handle the custom contents are faulty. I don't know who came up with this idea the first time and made it as a rule, but probably over-thought a couple of thing with these copyright issues.

The sad thing that some people can not get over it. It's actually not even about support. With BATs there shouldn't be any support issue. The belonging lots are a different situation, and yepp, a lot of older lot (specially transit lots) are broken.

Anyway. We/the community need to find some solution to this. The best would be somehow make contact with foreign sites and start a discussion with them about this issue.

Because we would not be taking the intellectual property of the people running the site. For example, let's say hypothetically you re-distribute one of my mods, found on the Chinese site, on the same grounds. That's me you'd be wronging, not those running simcity.cn. Which is why we shouldn't base our decisions on what others are doing, legitimately or otherwise.

SimCity CN will have a reason issuing these invitation codes. Website cost may be running high, as on STEX they may ask for some support to survive. SimCity CN content mostly concentrate on Asian, chinese and japanese Bat´s, innovative, yet the content in comparing with STEX looks a little bit out of date. As I mentioned in sharing plugins, if something is there but the posting date is beyond a maybe now defunct official authors site release, there´s no basis to give SimCity CN any credit ! World wide players and chinese player´s not can getting acces to each other´s  site files should resolved in direct contact with the site administrators.

Images via google translate.  They have pages of stuff from here and sc4d.  They have a whole section of things rehosted from other sites.

Today, I had another try accessing SimCity CN maybe retrieve those Gurrry Seawalls   ! Invitation codes may be a new problem, but the security question asked for me is the ultimate  blow ! Oviously, there dealing with performance problems as response is quit slow. Reset pasword no email messages none. Tiberius as I and several others are done with this site.  Some of the content may be genuine, but most content might be at some point for community purpose uploaded from several european and asian (japanes) websites wich most may have lost these are dead or if lucky located on hide seek are a other site ! Admin should have a talk to resolve those disputed issue´s; author´s rights take in account, some  content in exchange !

    Sincerely yours,

    kschmidt
