I think I'll need to reference @11241036's tutorial and work to understand everything a bit more before I can make the changes myself.

In the meantime, maybe you could use this tool Cori made to clear some of the trees away if you fancy a beach someplace. *;)

I also found it can be used to remove trees from grown or plopped buildings too, which I thought was a really cool bonus feature.

Most of what you said there unfortunately went over my head. *:???:

Don't worry about this feeling, because we've all been there at some stage or another. It's all part of our mayoral journey of discovery, depending on which pathway is each worth us taking. Modding can appear very complicated at first sight, but once getting into it there is so much powerful potential. To simplify the process, it's very much a case of tweak and test. See what one data value does for changing certain parameters in game, and then combining them with other things (and various file formats).

Modding isn't something which is necessary to enjoy SC4 at all, but if ever you decide to delve into it, you'll realise it's like a whole new "game" in itself. It's one reason Cori and I hardly have much time for city-building with being engrossed in exemplars and data value relations most of the time. Not to mention the Lua code. *

This guide might go a way to explain the basics:

Oh wow, how had I not seen that before? There's all sorts of hidden treasures on these forums isn't there? *:golly:

Thank you; this makes me feel better for not getting the gist of it yet. =p Just more to still learn.

I agree, modding is definitely part of the fascination of this game and why it's still going so strong. I hope you and Cori know how appreciated you two are (as well as the many other creators that toil to make the game so enjoyable for the community). *:thumb:

So, if I wanted to fill my map with just one breed of tree is it possible to do that with Flora? If not, is there any option for me other than simply planting one tree at a time? B/c I'm not quite obsessed enough to do that.

To do it via Flora Blasting out of the box, no. Tho the exemplars could prolly be modified to exclude all except the tree you want. I imagine that's possible as it'd be similar to how peeps have made custom tree controllers. I've never looked into that myself so I don't even know what to suggest if you wanted to try modding it.

Actually editing the Maxis flora (God Mode) is really easy because there aren’t a lot of exemplars/trees used. Maybe 15 all told including the scrub brush. See my mod here if you want a reference of the relevant exemplars.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
