Are curved roads possible in SimCity 4 (Steam version)

Hi everyone. I was watching a tutorial video ages ago when i was new to SimCity 4. In it there were roads that curved in any direction rather than the grid like roads that we all know and love. It made suburban and countryside areas look a lot more realistic because the roads gently curved instead of having the usual right angle turns. I didnt have much interest in that at the time as i was trying to learn the basics of sc4, but now id really like to make roads like that but i have no idea how. Ive searched for the tutorial again but i cant find it. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it a mod or is there some way of doing it in vanilla that i just havnt figured out?  Ive searched this site as best i can, but i havnt it, but this could be because i dont really know how to phrase what im looking for. If its a mod or plugin or something could someone please point me in the right direction? And if curved roads are available in vanilla mode could someone please tell me how to do this or direct me to a tutorial? Thanks

Check the link in my signature, I've a tutorial showing how to use the WRC (Wide Radius Curves) and FAN (Fractionally Angled Networks). Both of which are components included in the NAM.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Keep in mind that to use NAM you will need to have either SC4 with the Rush Hour Expansion pack or the SC4 Deluxe version.  Also the game must be patched to at least version 1.1.638.

Thanks for the answers people. Tried the mod, it wasnt the one i was looking for though. Or maybe i just didnt understand it. In the video i watched the guy was dragging the roads with his cursor into whatever shape he liked, this doesnt seem to do it. But as i said maybe i havnt figured it out. I will look at some of the tutorials you folks recommended.

This really sounds like you might have been watching a vid of Cities: Skylines. *;)

It would probably help to see the video in question, if you can locate it.  As Cori mentioned above, there's a decent chance it wasn't SC4--it also could have been SimCity 2013.

@CorinaMarie Yeah could have been. Do they look pretty similar? That would explain why i never managed to find the video when i searched for it under SimCity 4

Well, yes & no. When just starting out they do look more alike than once buildings have sprouted. *;)

@CorinaMarie Far as i remember they looked exactly the same. But that was a while ago when i was new to SimCity so i may just not have perceived the differences as much as i would now that im into SimCity 4. Far as i remember there were a few people asking the guy what the mod was, but he didnt reply to any of them. Perhaps he made it but didnt share it. Anyway it doesnt really matter. Im sure i can get a similar look using the NAM

NAM is definitely the only mod available in SC4 that allows curved roads and different angled roads.  There is a fairly steep learning curve, but once you master it, you can make marvelous road networks.  I would suggest that you create a sandbox region and play around with the NAM before using it in your main region.

Also be sure you install the SC4Fix mod.  This will prevent the game from crashing while using certain NAM pieces.  You can find it here.
