Strange sounds on the website

Ok, I assume this is the right forum. Since this morning I noticed an irregularly intermittent, rapping sound, like when you roll one dice in a cup or if you briefly rap your knuckles on wood. I narrowed it down --apparently -- to my going on the Simtropolis site (as it doesn't happen when I'm not there). There used to be a small sound icon on the right of the google bar, with which to turn off an annoying dinging sound (also happening on the website). That icon has disappeared -- and the digging sound is now that equally annoying and loud rapping sound. Has anybody experienced this or is my computer the only poltergeisted one ?

We did just add a new Chat. The default option is for sounds when the chat isn't in focus. I wonder if that's related?

Yes that would be it.

Try clicking Chat Rooms on the status bar on the bottom, then uncheck the following option:

We can look into disabling this option by default. Because it seems a bit excessive to be notified of messages if you don't wish to participate in chat.

apparently the blue sound icon reappeared (with the dingplop sound) I clicked on it and for the time being, no more poltergeist !!! :-) I'll keep the other advice in mind if it reappears. Thanks !
