This is a station (module) with 2 single track side platforms and 2 passing tracks. It would be amazing if you could do something like this as a standalone station! The best solution for the side tracks would be of course to create your own platform with tracks like at the Bright Coppice station, but this time with 2 seperate side platforms at their own single track. This way we would not need any mods. The two sides could act as one segment , together with the passing tracks i guess? please let me know what you think of this idea :)

I've actually thought of this before, it's just i can't release the tracks by themselves without a station to go with and i haven't found a station design i like enough that fits the bypass track style - at least nothing that i would care to model. If you know of any cool looking stations (architecturally or spatially cool) then post them here for ideas.  I have a back up but I'm saving it for something else that's more suitable.

This is Montabaur in Germany, it has 5 tracks: 2 for stopping highspeed trains, 2 for passing highspeed trains and one for local trains. You could just remove the local one and "copy" the side with just one side platform to the other side to make it symmetrical and simpler, resulting in 4 tracks. Oh and of course you would have to shorten the platforms a lot, the real ones are 400m long.

s you can see that the whole station is elevated, but I'm sure it would also look good at ground level. The thing in front is the bus station.

Two more stations with passing tracks that are also on the same route:

Limburg Süd (ground level, just 4 tracks, simpler design): https://goo.gl/maps/wWSccmwL51N2

A mix between this one and the one above (Montabaur) would also be an option

    Siegburg/Bonn ( elevated, 6 tracks + 2 underground lightrail tracks): https://goo.gl/maps/uaukrBxHYyC

This is such a good one! I'll probably do this, it's just a matter of time and motivation haha, I just get home from work each day and it depends what i feel like working on, which dictates how fast i produce things haha

I knew you just had to like it haha :D As  I said, I would recommend to remove the local track (platform 5) to make it more symmetrical etc. and not copy the station but just use it as an inspiration :)

And take your time, If it comes out this year I'm happy haha :D

yeah i usually don't like making exact replicas anyway, too many times you just can't get it exactly the same anyway (look at flinders street station)

although one of the longer more complex of the 4 projects I'm currently thinking of is a massive replica (if i can even figure out how to pull it off haha)

just a working concept for the bypass (ignore the lack of texture, just reusing the old import from wide station tracks)

Omg that's perfect! So the missing texture for the bypass tracks will just about fit (in terms of width)  where the platform would have been?  I just wondered how it would look like at the nodes that connect it to the main tracks. Probably a bit like at your 4 stop tram exchange, but with an added double crossover?

I was thinking it would be a double cross over but it actually won't.  only the two outer tracks will need to be cross over. The two inner tracks are just through tracks where no vehicles stop to change direction at.

So it'll kind of be a combo of normal track node and the crossover node from my wide station track.

It is about the same width, but there's an extra 600mm between the outer and inner sets of tracks.

Stay tuned. I think I'll be working more on the canal this weekend

    Loved bypass tracks !

BTW, do you think it would be possible to make a tram station (with your 4 tracks tram), BUT save it in Tram Network tab? I failed to do it so far, I really wanted to make that tram stop in Bern

Any network that contains tram lanes will appear in the road menu and in the tram tab.

Maybe try using the tram only networks as enable zoning and add car lanes?

Will it look a bit like this (minus the weird glitch and the platform of course) ?

Although it's just the normal crossover + the through tracks, it looks kinda messy, because some rails intersect very close to each other. So as a "cleaner" solution I would actually prefer a crossover further out (to the right in the case of the picture) so it would be after the station tracks joined the main tracks. On one hand this would make the whole contraption a bit longer, but on the other hand more realistic (at my example station "Montabaur" its kinda the same) and overall just cleaner, as I already mentioned.

btw: is it possible to make a station without any crossovers? It's stupid anyways to have this station as a terminus, because reversing trains would always block both main tracks. So without the crossover you could only use it as a stopping point beween at least two other stations. The nodes would look like the ones at your 4 stop tram station that I really like

that's exactly what it will look like, and unfortunately the node tracks have to fit in that space so even if i made the track longer the cross over as well as the through tracks need to fit in the node (which is only one size/cannot be bigger) I'm still happy enough with the way it will be, and I would still prefer to give people the option of using this as a terminus because technically a line can end but you can still have cargo and intercity trains wanting to go through - you are right about the trains waiting a bit but it's livable, and if you have too many trains that end up causing that it probably means you have too high a budget on that line anyway.

    Thanks Bad Peanut.

I'm really loving your Melbourne trams and 4 lane road with trams and bike lanes... not to mention your Perth passenger trains and all of your stations.

Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing some more fantastic Australian content from you in the future.

I'm thinking of creating a doozy of an asset but i have to test out the basic concept first before i decide :)

Glad you like, do you have flinders street station too? It'll go nicely with your trams!

Ok then I will still be happy with it I think :D sorry for being too picky about the look of the node, I guess for more realistic train networks in general I have to play something like train fever.

Just one last question: Do you know why the catenary masts at your wide station track didn't get replaced, although I'm using the "Catenary replacer" mod? As you can see in the screenshot above, the ones at the main line in the middle did get replaced correctly.

I'm guessing but i believe any replacer mod looks first for the network prefab (ie they look for all the CO networks because technically the mod authors can't predict any future modded roads/tracks) and THEN they look for the props to replace them. So because mine is a custom prefab with a custom name, the mod doesn't know to search for it and so it gets skipped. It's just a limitation to the way those mods work. They could do a search and replace that sort of prop but the amount of computing that would require would be A LOT at game load... and I'm not even sure it would even work that way because the props are embedded in the prefab and may not register in such a search..

    that's my best guess :)

I've downloaded flinders street station , but yet to actually place it. I'm planning to create a new CBD area soon, and will use it as the centrepiece of the train network there when I get around to it.

@Nicolas, you could probably resolve the catenary issue with Touch This! but that can also break train stations in unfun ways, in my experience.

i don't think that would do anything, - that does stuff that isn't related to what catenary replacer does

If it's just a prop in the asset rather than part of the network component, it won't help, no.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've made something with the Unique Buildings template - anyone remember how to set a unique template to not be recognised as the templates building - in game when you place the original or the clone both register as placing the one building, so they clash not allowing you to place the other. I swear I've done it before (made a completely new unique building that doesn't get recognised as the original) but I've forgotten. Is it a matter of templating a normal park and changing the AI to a unique building?
