Very nice. Call the rest of the workers down from the barn roof they are working on. It appears to be time for lunch.

So, without spending any time with regard to individual props, what land things you are using to get the more realistic farm ground? The SimPeg farm suite? And the dirt road I'm guessing is in NAM.

It is actually a LOT made by Jmyers, I believe over at SC4D. I like the concept of SPAM but I don't really care for the colors of the fields so I don't use it. The dirt road is a texture on the LOT (3 basic parts to a LOT, base textures ie the ground, props, and function)  The gravel grey street next to the farm is one of the SAM streets which is part of the NAM. There are 10 options/styles for SAM, this one is the PEG Gravel.

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

Small farming village in the Northwest of the country. The field right under is ploppable. I use that to fill in space and make the surroundings rural. I've used some mods like the NAM, Spam and some old Polish builidings. I don't think a grid is visible in here to be honest.

Now. that's a cute farm. Perhaps making it bigger will make it even look better. :)

Well here I am, sitting in an office and wishing I'd be taking a hike along that path instead, and enjoying the idyllic scenery. Beautiful work! I also like your attention to detail - those are cow pats, right?

Yeah! This was gonna turn into a full fledged little place (there were two other houses and i had a rough road network laid out) however, my computer screen decided to randomly go dark for no apparent reason before I could save it. So, I couldn't play that city anymore :(.
Also, thank you!! I'm very pleased with how this turned out and it means a lot you just said that!!! :D

Nice!  I like the twisted house plot on the goofy farm!  One thing I kinda like about SC is the weird way that stuff sets up sometimes.

I'm impressed that you have a pop of 26,000!  By just looking at the map you wouldn't suspect nearly that many with all the farms and natural land there.  Maybe because there is enough of it that it takes the focus away from the development??   I like the greyscale water too.  The waves look cool.

Oh, yes. So many things that happen and look goofy just tickle me. I started posting in the Oddities thread here if you are curious.

Keep in mind that is the whole region population. I've played some more since the above pics. Here's the breakdown atm:

11_img0000.jpg.5db09791d935d8d44d7b21ae63b7b05c.jpg

The residential demand is close to 6000 in each tile so I can have a lot more res. Like in Dipsy-Doodle the farms were growing so well I didn't bother zoning much green at all. Basically I want the whole thing covered in farms first. Then as I play I'll add more res and eventually I'll start educating some of them. I'm playing it like I feel real life might go. Isolated farm tiles first (those major roads each stop just short of their borders and there are no neighborhood connections right now) and then a slow expansion with elementary education, eventually inter tile connections, and finally small towns that'll grow up bigger and bigger. The farms will slowly get taken over by the growing urbanization. The dirt farms are those that will sell first as those little Sims just aren't making much of a profit. See, the farmers try to unite and form a bloc to thwart the land sales, but the dirt farmers need the money and will go against the wishes of the others.

True.  I guess I didn't realize that at first but, even so, it simply doesn't look like that many people live there, even in the region.  But that's a good thing.  It looks more natural and it's so spread out that 26k doesn't really make a dent.  I'm really diggin' your story of life as it is in your region.  The only thing better than a good map is a good story to accompany it :thumb:

@CorinaMarie I like your style of game play . All of the farms are looking pretty cool . Are you still playing Vanilla , other than the Water Mod ?

About the "Goofy Farm" . That kind of stuff is bizarre , isn't it . " Let's flatten out the farm lot , we can build a house anywhere"

I'm working in Two Egg now doing the farms among the trees in the northwest corner.

Its enjoyable seeing you now combining all your interests in the game, maps, terrain, traffic, farms, into a comprehensive project and presentation.  I like all the elements you've brought together as well as the smooth fabric-like texture of the map.  May I ask what dark green trees you're using?  They don't appear to be the vanilla dark green pines.

Sure, go ahead and ask. ... Oh, wait, you are asking. :ooh:

They are indeed plain ol' Maxis trees. The ones which grow at higher elevations on (mostly) slopes with decent moisture content. (Higher elevation in this case is still under the max of 756 meters based on the default ImageImportScaleFactor = 3.0 in the Terrain Properties exemplar.)

Please excuse my politeness <-- I think that's an oxymoron :)     I learn something new from you every time.  Thanks, now I have yet another project on my list to experiment with simulated tree growth in SC4.  These are planted trees in mayor mode then, not god mode brush.  I wonder if there's a way to increase the coverage area of the tree planter brush (yes, I'm asking).

No, no, no.

I plant all my trees in God Mode before I name the city tile. I grab the tree planter brush, hold Shift, and paint and paint (and paint) slowly crisscrossing the same areas until they are just as thick as they will go. Then I turn the map 90o and do it all over again. I do all four cardinal directions cause some places accept trees when the map is turned a certain direction. Most importantly, I paint right exactly on the edge tiles on the right hand side for each turn. Otherwise those don't plant well and it leaves a barren strip that then looks like borders are turned on in the region view.

Yes. There's a mod called Mega God Mode Tree Brush, however, it comes with the caveat that you can crash the game if you paint along the borders with the Big+ brush. (You can also crash the game with the regular, non-modded one if you stray too far out into the ether.) I haven't tried the aforementioned mod.

Thanks Cori,  I understand now so I'm going in-game to try out the process as you've defined.  Yeah, I forgot about that mod, I used it before, but had some other problem than CTD with it.  I'll try it again.

Here's some tips that are helpful:
Holding down the right mouse button to scroll across the map slowly while planting trees winds up planting a significant amount more.
Holding down shift increases the range and speed of growth of any god mode/mayor mode brush EXCEPT for the MMPS (the single-plant mayor mode trees)
Holding down ctrl does the opposite of the above.
Shift + any number from 1-9 changes the brush size manually and keeps it that way until you either reselect a different size or exit the brush and re-enable it. Same thing with terrain. Doesn't change rate of growth.
Also, two other things with shift and control:
Holding shift while zoning allows you to zone without it placing streets, which gives a lot more freedom when the zoning tool AI is being particularly disagreeable.
Holding control is tricky to explain, say you want a 3x3 single plot of zoning but it segments into 1x3s, if you hold control while zoning, it'll force it to create a 3x3 plot. This goes for any size you want. Does not spawn roads and it ceases to zone when you zone into a road, building, or existing zone. However, it places the sidewalks of the respective density type.
