How do you guys open the asset editor? Up until now I have used a different steam account to open it, so I have far less mods and assets enabled or else  it crashes or super laggy.

When I disabled mods on one account it would disable some on the other, which was OK . Now it seems to be disabling random assets instead. Do you guys have multiple accounts or is there an easier way to do this?

Whenever I need to work with the Asset Editor, I start the game with the startup-parameter -noWorkshop

Try that and let me know :)

You can do it in steam, but I suggest you make a seperate shortcut for when you want to launch the game without mods for asset importing.

Right click where you want to create the shortcut and select new > shortcut, then paste this in:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 255710 --noWorkshop

Keep in mind, your path to steam might be a bit different if you choose to install it somewhere else.

Now you can use the regular way you open cities skylines to play, and use this shortcut for noWorkshop mode when importing assets.

That's no options if you want to use custom props.

You can make backups of which assets and mods are enabled for different cities or the asset editor by copying the userGameState.cgs file in %\app data\local\colossal order\cities skylines into some backup location (you need a folder per game state).

There's also the Assets and Mods Configuration mod that allows you to do that from within the game's mod menu.

Local props have different item IDs I think.

I can neither confirm nor deny that since I've never release a building with props yet... But I'll keep an eye on it, thanks!

    That's correct.

Just create different content manager profiles:

The file AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\userGameState.cgs saves which mods and assets are enabled in the content manager. Just copy/switch the file while the game is not running.

That way you can disable everything that is not needed for asset creation without loosing your "play profile".

I want to do this. 1 file for asset creation and 2 for separate cities. I currently have 3 separate steam accounts each with there own subscribed to mods and assets(not enabled).

This .cgs file has all of them in one I think and didn't change when I started the game on each account, It was always the same file size.

Using this cgs file this means I can only have one steam account. Do I have to unsubscribe everything on both city accounts to create the asset creation .cgs. Copy it.

Then resub all assets and road mod to create city 1.cgs. Copy that. Then city 2 .cgs?

I'm super confused to be honest.

I'm afraid that I don't have several Steam accounts on the same Windows user account (and C:S only on one account), so I don't know how that works in your specific case. userGameState.cgs saves whether you have an asset or mod enabled or disabled. The file size changes drastically with changes in asset use. I just keep separate copies of the file in a backup location in separate folders with descriptive names. I copy the file I need before I start the game.

Of course, you can also use that mod I linked. That keeps copies of your state as renamed files in a new folder in your game directory and lets you load the state you need.

If you use the Loading Screen Mod, you can also keep props disabled. This mod will load all necessary props if you are subscribed to them, no matter what their state is. I'm not sure whether it works with the asset editor though. It will also load disabled assets that are already in your city.

I  used that mod before and didn't like it. I cant remember why though.

I cant see a use in disabling all props with loading screen mod. I will have to trial and error I guess. Thanks

I'll have to try this out! Sad to see it's incompatible with the improved assets panel - loved being able to sort stuff by category!

This guy's mods are amazing in how they make the game behave. This is the same author who made the incredibly useful Loading Screen Mod , which saves lots of RAM.
