This website is broken?

Why is it so frustrating to find what you need here? The search sucks and is pretty much useless, any link from before 2011 for some reason DOES NOT WORK, so you have almost no luck getting dependencies for older files. I'm trying to download this casino and the dependency link is broken and the name of the dependency is unknown so i can't google it. Also several files have MISSING download buttons. Who runs this place? Does anyone care? It's freaking irritating because i can't even find help for these issues because nothing shows up on google either.

Here is an example:

WHY IS THERE NO DOWNLOAD BUTTON? WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN FIXED?

Also this:

Click the link he posted for the dependency to find your dead-end.

This is just two examples off the top of my head i just encountered.

Hold on, let me understand. You come here on a free site with thousands and thousands of files to download, a minority of them have problems and you create a topic to be rude? Look at the size of this site and how much good content it has, and then ask yourself if anyone care. Next time be polite and do not try to impose your pampering.
The first file button is on the right side of the screen (at least here) by dragging the bar. Or direct link. The second file I hope you never find out as a punishment you can try to ask for that on the Can't Find it? Ask Here thread.

This site does not seem to support Simcity 4 anymore at all, like i said earlier it's practically impossible to find dependency links from here because of the site change that never fixed the issue even 5 years later. If you are lucky they are a part of a bigger prop pack or something...the ones that aren't are lost forever. Most props and stuff were made years ago so that makes it even harder to find them now, this shouldn't be this big of a problem. Oh and the search button still hardly works. But thanks for the first link, that helped a bit.

I've heard of the issue with download buttons not showing up. This is because the formatting on the file download page was messed up in some way (it seems to affect a select few older files). In these cases, the download button is off to the right of the white area on 16:9 ratio screens, but the people who couldn't find the button all apparently had 4:3 ratio screens.

I'd honestly suggest asking for help with stuff in a nicer way. Joining a site and then ranting about problems affecting 11 year old files is not really good practice. Maybe you should try looking at stuff that's more recent. Dependencies are easier to find and the models usually look nicer due to more powerful software.

New members should tend to be more polite and less demanding.  This site is now about 14 years old, and has an enormous data base.  Perhaps, as most members of the 'now' and 'entitled' generations, you didn't bother to read the items at the top of the page.  The site is under revision, and has been for some time.

If you think SC4 is out of support here, try reading the following forums: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/forum/3-simcity-4-general-discussion/ and https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/forum/5-sc4-bugs-technical-issues/

We have several thousand users, and the site is anything but broken.  However, impatient squirts might find it a little complex.

No reason for you to go grandpa and bring generations into this, besides I first signed up here in 2009 and eventually drifted off from Sc4 and simtropolis for like 5-6 years. I don't see how I was being rude or demanding, yea I was a little pissed and dramatic at not being able to find a lot of things on simtropolis but I never demanded anyone to do anything or insulted anyone.

I think a lot of the issue here is it is hard to communicate through message board (Text basically). I know I come across as somewhat condescending at times or even a little argumentative. I try to compensate for this by stating directly I mean no offense, just a little critique, etc. THE USE OF CAPITOLS is the same as YELLING!!!

So, to bring this back to the issue at hand, the site is still experiencing certain upgrades. The site administrators and all those helping are unpaid staff providing a hosting area for content that is free of charge. Let all of us give a huge THANK YOU to them for the very difficult work they have accomplished thus far and I know they are working on getting the rest up and running.

The button for download, even my my widescreen monitor, I have to scroll right to see the download button. Using Windows 10, 1366x768 resolution and Google Chrome. I'm not sure which dependency it is but try this one, https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1403. Just in case this is not it, try the I can't find it thread mentioned earlier.

I hope this truly does help.

Simtropolis has run on various software over the years, the most recent being IPS 4.0 in June last year. Data has been imported into new formats, and inevitably this often creates some issues. It's true the site is run by a group of volunteers, both admins and moderators. While most of us aren't professionals in programming or web technologies, we always strive to improve the site and keep it running smoothly. We certainly do care about making this site both informative and enjoyable.

Among the list of site bugs we're looking to resolve, the "missing" download button has been an issue for older files. Like MushyMushy explained, this is a formatting error caused by missing HTML tags. We've been manually updating these files to correct the layout and restore the button to the usual place. If you notice any others, please feel free to report and we'll fix them up. Ideally it would be great to do this all in batch...

Unfortunately, dependencies are a challenge not just for Simtropolis, but for the wider SC4 community. The sheer volume of content has outgrown expectations, and dependencies are at the heart of the problem. The demise of SimPeg also hasn't helped with this.

Between site upgrades, the link formats have changed on the STEX. For example, they used to be in these forms:

    www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=12345

    www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=12345

And now from ST v7.0 onwards:

    community.simtropolis.com/files/file/12345-/

On the older links, you can sometimes copy the file ID number into the new format shown above. If the ID hasn't changed, this will take you to the same file. Originally the older links had an auto-redirect, but this is no longer recognised. However, this is something which might be possible to add back server-side (I'll check with Dirktator).

Rest assured, the community is still going strong. If you're looking for a specific file or any advice to do with the game, we're all here to help. :)

What is wrong with the first file?i can download it perfectly. Also do a bit of thinking.there are likely thousands of files on the website.now that's not easy to take care of by a small team.so much files likely larger than 50 times of my plugins folder.
