Yeah, C:SL is pretty one-sided on industry: if it exists, it is toxic and will kill you. Would be nice if there were sub-divisions within industry (generic specializations, if you will), with different sets of properties: like, if the sign on the roof says 'Truman's Uranium Emporium' or 'Dow Chemicals', it should destroy any life form within a 10-mile radius, if it says 'Binco Textile Mill' or 'Kraft Dinner Corp.' only a 1-mile radius, and when it says 'Care Bear Toy Factory' or 'HAL 9000 Software Productions', it should have no environmental impact. So to speak....

Yea, I've wanted something like this for a while, or if nothing else, at least add a 'light industry' specialization alongside oil and ore and the others, including some accompanying building models, and their own stats (no pollution).

Also, @Avanya, not to pile more work on your plate with the fences, just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.

Pollution could really be a bit more interesting. Air pollution is completely missing atm. At least with RICO we can turn off pollution, so warehouses don't kill all your cims.

Interesting fence. It's not something we really have here, but a privacy industrial fence could be useable for sure. And it shouldn't be that much work. I've mostly finished a commercial (leasure atm) verison of the glass works and a residential version of the lastest factory. They should be up on the workshop in the next few days and then I'll prob do another factory. :)

I'm looking forward to the new factory. I don't know what you have in mind, but I'm hoping it's good-sized. There aren't enough industrial buildings bigger than 4x4. I actually like a lot of the vanilla industrial buildings, I just wish they were bigger.

Old brick tenement and a converted glass works are up. No pics as they look alot like their industrial counterpartners. :) Instead I'll give you an early WIP of my next project. I think I'll make both a brick and concrete version of this one. :)

Wow, you are filling my plugins again! Thanks for the glass works and this old brick industry. And now I am going to hunt pipes - I only hope, that the game can handle all the new assets.

Thanks for the converted versions of your factories.

That new building looks cool. What is it? Size? Madam, we must have details. We must all have details forthwith!

Np guys! ^^ Conversions luckily don't take that long. :)

The new factory is 8x6 and will be a RICO building (and a park or something without RICO) - I'll prob do a converted version that's an office building. Texturing is coming along nicely - no pics of it today though. :P

    8x6? Nice!

I'm looking forward to both the factory and office versions.

What's the texture? Brick? I love a nice, sharp brick texture.

Yup, going for a nice dark red brick, though I think I'll do a dirty concrete look as well :P

So far it's looking good. Normal map needs a bit more work, specular and illumination still missing and then ofc the LOD. It's got the overall look I was going for though :D

Maybe a bit too evenly spread out on the roof. Looks great though

You get such crisp textures for your buildings, especially those windows. This is a beautifull building and I prefer the darker grey/grungy looking roof clutter with maybe some clusters of repeating elements and some random? I tried looking up images of old brick factory roofs, not a lot of reference images out there, but most of them seem dark and gritty. Like this image.

WOW! That looks awesome. I can't wait to plop that down in my city. I don't want to be selfish, but I hope you do a good handful more buildings in this same vein. It looks like a proper warehouse-turned office or loft building.

Fantastic! As said, those windows look amazing, wonder what they look like at night!

I think gravel roofing would look great on this building, like so, or tar, like so. Nice and weathered ;)

And I dig the King's sentiment that these buildings are perfect buildings to gentrify, so our resident hipsters and yuppies have a place to scold their barista: "Oh dear, is that cinnamon on that foam?" :D

Beautiful work on these. As much as I love bricks, that concrete one looks great.

And as others have pointed out, those windows look fantastic. Is there a name for that style of window? I've always wondered.

    Ty so much guys :D

The windows were pretty easy to do as I found some awesome textures on textures.com Most places they seem to fall under "industrial windows" but I'm sure they have a proper name like pretty much all window types. No idea what it is though. :P

I plan on doing some slightly more tidy versions for residential and offices. Gotta have the windows look more clean (and maybe modern) and get rid of the large rollup doors. Not sure if I'll replace some of the large windows with smaller ones or just keep them all there.

Maybe you could keep the roll-up doors to integrate them in a store front - the best gentrifying examples I know try to maintain as much as the industrial history as possible, and use clever ways to integrate them within the new function of the building.
But I'm really looking forward to the gentrified versions: the industrial ones are fantastic, and I'm sure they look at least as good when re-purposed for non-industrial usage (some examples I can think of: offices, apartments/lofts, a covered food market/court [perhaps with stalls outside as well], laser-tag/indoor activities arena).

Just curious: is it possible for me, as subscriber, to edit these buildings in such a way myself that I change the building type and footprint? In other words, could I open one of those industrial assets in the Asset Editor and change them into - for example - a commercial building with a larger footprint and different assets? Or do you need to re-import the actual to do so?
I've done so for a few growables, but only to make changes to the prop arrangement and lights (some modelers tend to go a bit overboard with the decorative lighting scheme), not to change the footprint or building type...

I'm looking forward to the repurposed versions.

Like @Judazzz said, you might keep the overhead doors and turn them into some commercial space like a Starbuck's (Sherlocks if you want to stick with Gula's in-game version). The windows might change, which is a shame because those look so good, but most of the factories-turned-offices that I've seen change the windows.

Here's an example I found online that looks similar to yours. I believe this one is an office:

And here's another that's been really cleaned up:

Normally I'd say it's pretty complicated, but since this is basicly a park it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Footprint you'd change in the asset editor and then you'd need to make a local RICO definition file which changes the building type, workers and/or households.

Storefronts might work - I'm also thinking of some large glass doors/windows to enjoy a garden/plaza out back. Hopefully there's room on the texture map. As for the windows I haven't decided if I'll keep the style of these ones and just have them look cleaner or if I'll put in modern ones. :P

Thanks for the info, I'll see what I can muster up :)

About the RICO settings file: should it just be copied to the folder that holds the .crp? And does it also work locally (I don't intend to change your assets and then upload them to the Workshop)?

Great stuff! That last one looks a lot like an old office I worked in a few years ago. :) (Same building Ubisoft Toronto is in)

Conversion into offices/residential is coming along nicely. Finally found a window style that worked (and I liked). I've swapped out some of the large doors for windows, others for large glass doors (some places I had large doors next to small doors, which doesn't make sense here). I got rid of the chimneys - they just didn't work for me. Not sure if I should add something on the roof or not. Looking at google maps these kinds of roofs are pretty empty besides some vents and skylights.
