Hmm, well because of that possibility and the icon thing, I just went and changed the growable assets back to non-RICO. But the rest, unique buildings, except for a couple, are still RICO.

Also, which category of RICO might a hotel fall into? I didn't seem to see anything for that in the bit of documentation I read.

I'd file hotels under Commercial: low for a motel-like structure and high if it's more like a chain hotel.
Commercial Tourism would also be an option, but imo. that may restrict its usefulness too much (unless you can plop Tourism/Leisure RICO buildings anywhere without losing functionality - something I don't know, because I don't use those specializations).

You can plop tourism/leisure buildings with RICO. I got my local settings to Tourism for your Dump Hotel.

I was thinking of that one specifically. Can you put the tourism/leisure settings in the XML? If so, how is it worded and what are the level and other limits/options for the other fields? There doesn't seem to be any mention of those in the creation guide.

I believe tourism and leisure replace the high/low in subservice option for commercial. They only have one level just like specialized industry, so that's pretty easy. Just set level to 1 and you're good to go. Awesome to see you've added RICO settings to your buildings :D

    Thank you Avanya!

It works for the Sagan-Tyson Center for Space! It's now a RICO leisure building.

I now want to update the World Trade Center, individually-ploppable version, but sadly parts 9, 10, and 11 do not have update or even share buttons on the content page. Nothing. No way to update them. The rest say update 9 months ago, but those three parts say 46 years ago.

All right, that little issue I had before fixed itself, so I was finally able to make the World Trade Center buildings RICO compatible.

    9856758678.jpg

This only applies to the version that's individually ploppable parts, of course. Some are high commercial, some are officers, like the towers, one is industrial, the customhouse, one is tourist, the Marriott, and one is leisure, the memorial.

I also made the space museum leisure and the Dump Hotel tourist. Along with the other RICO buildings, all of my non-growable/service buildings are RICO compatible now...

    EDIT: Never mind!

I had trouble getting a lot imported, but imported it instead as a high residential and used a mod to lower it back to low residential L1, and it works. So if anybody was thinking of helping, don't worry about it now. ;)

Also, my idea of putting the construction lots in packs didn't work out. They did not seem to work with the theme, so I had to publish them all separately, 16 assets in all. So if you subbed to the sets, get rid of those and sub to the individual lots instead. I'll have the theme updated soon.

One more tiny thing: I finally got the Snowfall expansion, so if there's anything special related to that you'd like to see me make, maybe special buildings or props, let me know and I'll consider it. For now, it's fun to see my stuff covered in snow, and I can test things in that, now.

I've started making a little something small:

    989867867.jpg

The Wells Fargo Plaza, in San Diego, CA. It's part of a series of buildings I'd like to do to help fill in the gap between super high-rise and low-rise buildings on the workshop, for those who want more modest but still impressive skylines. I have a habit so far of making complicated supertalls, these smaller buildings would be a breath of fresh air for myself and those who want smaller buildings.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to this, as mid-rise stuff is something that's sorely lacking, as you said.

Plus it's awesome to see something from CA instead of always New York all day every day. I love NY as much as the next guy, but there are other American cities.

On another note, I'd love to see you create some original buildings not based exclusively on any real buildings, but perhaps inspired by. I'm working on a SoCal city right now, and buildings that really fit in are in short supply, so some nice original, SoCal-friendly buildings would be awesome.

This looks fantastic. Eleven megs is a little steep for me. I generally don't like to go over about 5 or 6 for a single workshop building, but this looks so good I may have to reconsider.

Quick bit of news-ish: I made a Facebook page for my C:S projects, updates and releases! Nothing much, but a nice page to like if you're on Facebook and wouldn't mind the occasional quick update or other stuff. You can find the page here: https://www.facebook.com/BoldlyBuilding/

I've been a little bored, so I decided to work some more on Willis Tower:

    9789676788.jpg

The tri count isn't pretty, I figure it'll be similar to the Empire State Building at most. But I've come to be okay with that, pretty standard for my big-time landmark stuff at this point :P But I figure if someone wants small textures and low tri count, plus a smaller version, they can always just use Drosovila's. He can have that share of the market, I'll do the ridiculous stuff only a few people will be willing to use ;)

I'm sure it'll look a lot sharper than Drosovilla's - I was actually waiting for you to finish this one, because Drosovilla's one doesn't have a base - but IMO you should be able to do this with a lot less tris than the Empire state, if not only for the simple shape. IMO some detail is overdoing it, like the attachmentpoints for the rails, you could also use less points for the antennas. Most people won't zoom into those kinda details.

    Still, impressive modelling. :)

Hmm, well the Empire State is 37k tris for a single tower.

So far the entire Willis Tower thing is the exact same. That's after reducing the tri counts of the rail supports and a few other bits, with a couple other things in mind to further lower it a little. But remember this building has a lot of ground details, too, much of which will be part of a separate building. This will be two buildings put together with sub-building enabler. The tower part itself will be around 35k tris. One of the reasons it's so many is because of how the windows are done, with each one being separated. Because of the variation needed to make the tower both accurate and to vary the night lighting, I needed to do that. I could do what Drosovila did, but that's too simple to be accurate. The window facade part alone is 12k tris. I posted an image earlier in this thread that shows how it's divided up. I'm hoping that with some extra reductions, the final count will be no bigger than the ESB, and hopefully a tiny bit smaller.

They actually have two levels, which I noticed when I played around with this. For example, tourism level 2 is "close to water", level 1 is "away from water". Specialized industry can also have two levels, the "fields" (level 2) and the industrial buildings.

Anyway, I actually coming to this thread to say thank you for all these lovely houses that appeared while I was gone. Next will be to look at all the other new stuff.

I yeah, but those levels don't really work like levels normally do. No upgrading between 1 and 2, which is why I ignored them in my comment :P  And the RICO settings also don't use them :)

I couldn't resist, so here's a rough early test before the textures are done and it's all properly placed with sub-buildings:

3D skeleton/lat/lon lines and alpha'd continents. It didn't turn out very well when I tried to make the whole thing alpha'd.

    A quick update on textures:

If there's one thing that's lacking on all current version of this building on the workshop, it's halfway decent rooftops.

If you want more pictures of neo-eclectic homes, I'm back in Seattle and I can easily snap a few photos of smaller footprint lots. There is also an "executive mansion" within walking distance from a relative's apartment. 2x2, 2x3, and 3x8 (ish) tile houses have all been built in the past decade.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

July 13th was my birthday and I wanted to finish Willis Tower by then, but it'll be another day, maybe finished on the 14th/today. There's still a little more tweaking to do for colors/brightness, I think, and I need to make LODs (quick work), but here's how it looks now...
