Hello everybody!

I thought I would share my workshop content here. I don't have a whole lot of assets yet, but I am slowly expanding...

To keep the thread clean most of the info and screenshots are on the main workshop pages.

Cold Fusion Reactor

C964846F80A89CC6E383075283278C7B3E825E58

Fans of C&C Generals will rejoice with this recreation of the Cold Fusion Reactor. While I did not set out to build an exact replica, it ended up being quite faithful to the original. It's also my most detailed and well rounded model so far. With its 40MW output the A1 reactor is just as powerful as a Coal Power Plant. The A2 version has been upgraded with Control Rods and provides 50% more power.

Type: Cold Fusion Reactor
Service: Electricity
Power: 40 ~ 60MW
Cost: 32000 ~ 45000
Cost/MW: 750 ~ 800
Upkeep: 480 ~ 600/Week
Upkeep/MW: 10 ~ 12
Polution: 0
Noise: 10

Wow the toll booth is, hands down, one of coolest innovative buildings I've seen so far! Great idea, great work, now you just need to figure out how to make income from it :)

Looking forward to seeing more from you :thumb:

Thank you so much! Yeah, I would love to have it so each car gives you some money, but I have no programming skills. :/

Added a smaller version to the series of toll booths.

This one fits onto a six-lane and is much more userfriendly.

Does it work if the terrain is not flat?

By using the Japanese garden template, it might be possible to achieve that.

Thank you, I use them as my primary power source, so easy to expand upon compared to solar. Generals is only the greatest rts ever made.

Hey guys! I've really been wanting to follow up on the cold fusion reactor because I love that kind of rugged industrial style. But I didn't feel like doing another remake, so I looked around the workshop and noticed there's very few telecommunications buildings, like big tv stations etc. So I decided to work on a very large ISP data center doubling as a power plant. I have the basic geometry setup, it covers the full 12x13 cells and two of them can be placed b2b so you get a giant 12x26 building. The design is roughly based on the SuperNAP structures in Las Vegas, the sattelite orb things on top are inspired by the Terremark building in Miami. Other than that it's completely fictional.

    Screen%20Shot%2009-12-15%20at%2009.53%20

Would love to hear what you guys think of this design, because things can still be moved around and modified.

    edit: ingame...

    It looks great!

I would just add a few more details on the roof (maybe in the texture), because that is the part you will see all the time.

The squares on the roof could be windows so you could see the servers inside.

I would create a prop for the barrier you used.

Thank you! I agree it still needs the smaller details, pipes, electric boxes, wiring. Some of those I will probably add with decals (vents, logos, all the scaffolding around the cooling units etc)

    GRID_Location.jpg

Those windows will actually be large solar panels :D

Making the barrier a prop would be more clever yes, but I need a lot of them to form a realistic perimeter (30+). I want the metal fences all the way around as well + a lot of AC units on top so for now I'm reserving the prop count for that. Can always swap them out later.

A question about your tollbooth turnpikes:

Which road type did you use? And whats the height of the ground mesh?

I used three highway ramps for the A1 and oneway roads for the A2 (just to slow down the cars). You do see the tires sink thru the floor when you use normal roads, HW works better for it.

The tarmac is like 5cm above the ground to prevent z-fighting, you don't see the gap ingame unless you look really really closely.

I will probably use dirt roads for my bus hub, because that's the only road with bus stops on the lane. I think it is also flat like the highway.

    Thanks for your help!

I am a bit unsure about diffuse brightness, I like it right now but CO models are clearly brighter and more saturated, what do you guys think?

Depending on the used LUT and biome it might be a bit dark indeed (which is something you as an asset creator don't have control over), but personally I think it fits well if you keep this building grey and menacing. Perhaps a slightly lighter tone for the concrete walls so it gains a little contrast, but other than that I think it looks terrific.

I think it looks good, It doesn't need to be bright. My one suggestion would be to maybe give that polygonal globe structure some more noticeable texture. Nice Hvac Systems too! Please make a custom LOD.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions...! Semi-Final pass before making the LOD :D Base model is at 3700 polys and maxed out on props, about where I want to be

The generators and cooling units have a metallic specular, looks nice and shiny but bit hard to see in the screens

    Screen%20Shot%2009-20-15%20at%2010.47%20

It's got a big atlas of generic metal and concrete panels, I'll probably end up reusing parts of it

Textures look really nice! How did you make that fence so detailed? Is it alpha layered?
