Well, at least you are still alive. Let's see for how long Fallout 4 will manage to suck you in :D.

Put in about 18 hrs, lots of things to explore see and kill :P

Heres a teaser for something I've been working on.
I think capturing the typical american feel has been a success so far.

Nice! Maybe you can bake in some ambient occlusion. I think that would look very good.

This looks nice. I was trying to build some American wood building neighborhood, but seeing the same three or four buildings over and over gets a bit repetitive, even if you fill it up with vanilla buildings.

Your buildings would fit in for the smaller lots.

These are from Preposterous Lucidity's Americana Collection . There are also some fitting ploppable garages available for the 1-tile wide gaps from the same author.

Yes, they do. I guess lack of ratings keeps the author from making more. And yes, the tiling of the brick texture is unfortunately somewhat bad.

I also use this building , but I only cloned that one up to level 3.

    Kliekie's little american house :)

Well this one still lacks a lod if I'm not wrong (but as it's quite small it might not be too visible)

It's great that you are still working on this. As to the name, no idea. "Trailer Park and Beyond"? Low wealth LD American suburban living? Britney Spears' Cradle? OK, I guess the last one may lead to complications.

    UPDATES:
After turning off my filters, I realized that the colors of some buildings are really wonky, neon, and really sticks out too much. Gonna tone down the colors a bit.
Made some variations of L3 House 4, it has 5 different variations! The suburbs are really starting look nice!
Going to do some more variations in terms of lot size. Expanding front yard looks good in isolated mountain suburbs, but they look out of place other wise. Might make a separate set of houses with expanding backyards.
Textures and models are not final, just creating sort of rough templates as I go, then I'm gonna do a thorough sweep of each house and optimize them.
As for the name, Might call the set 'Surburbia USA'

    Wow!

If you want, I can create some custom parking spaces and other decals. The concrete decal you used looks kind of strange.

Just send me the texture ;)

Wow that would be great! I'm using the game's default asphalt decal. If you could make something more square that would be awesome! Maybe pathways aswell.

I remember I saw a topic about custom decals, and was gonna ask for some assistance making driveways and pathways but I must have not followed through. :P

Right now there is still the limitation that decals have a size of 8x8m.

Just create a diffuse and alpha texture (256x256). Then send them to me.

You can also do it yourself. I can send you the mesh and the Mod Tools script.

Will Do! So the textures will stretch to an 8x8m square? So if i want a path 1 meter wide I would have to make it 256/8 or 32 pixels wide in the texture right?

Thinking about releasing this in two parts: a suburban and rural version. The difference is the front yard and back yard expansion. Figured front yard expanded buildings look alot more in place in rural areas where lots aren't back to back. Back yard expansions look very much like normal suburban neighborhoods.

the reason for this is because suburbs in the US generally have larger backyards then front, and rows of houses have a certain setback and alignment that would be lost of we had a bunch of different back and front expanding yards.

This leads me to a question: is it possible to have buildings that do not expand at all? I would like to be able to create 1x2 and 1x1 buildings that can be shared in both sets. Withought having to deal with wierd offsets, when they grow on lots that are deeper.

One example of 1x1 buildings that are not expanding that I can think of are those little shops made by Ngon - so maybe he can tell you how to tackle that issue.

Love the little colonial buildings, btw.

About expandable front/back yards: even though backyards are more common in more inner city districts, if you look for example at Brooklyn or Queens on Google Maps, you'll find quite a number of area's where wall-to-wall houses actually have front yards, drive ways, parking spaces, small flower beds etc. as well (example 1, example 2), resulting in nice rows of houses that are a bit more offset from the road (which makes the overall look a bit more suburban). Being able to build neighborhoods like that as well would be an easy way to create much more visual diversity with the same set of assets (imagine some of Feindbild's smaller Brooklyn homes with 1-cell frontyard extensions...)

Tell your users to install the Building Themes mod:

    Quote

f there is enough space, the game will expand the front- or backyard of a building to a maximum length of 4 cells (e.g. a 2x2 building will spawn as 2x4). This mod changes the behavior a little bit, which can be used by asset creators: If there are no props or trees in the expanded backyard, the size will be set back to the original size. That way it is possible to create neighbourhoods with only 4 cells wide blocks. The UK Terraced Housing theme uses this feature.

    Thanks for your input!

That example is sort of the effect you get when i have narrow lots. That looks like a 1x4 lot with a 1x2 building, with one extra cell front and back. Now if made one in the game, it would only grow on 1x4 lots. If i make a 1x2 lot, it would also grow in 1x3 and 1x4 configurations, and since it can only expand front or back, it would be 2 cells deep, or all the way up front. The alignment of this house compared to the 1x4 would look odd.

i might release a building with every possible lot size and expansion to fully allow users to adjust how they want their lots to look like.

another option would be to have a theme thats has only 1 cell deep lots and another with 2 cells deep lots.

I tried utilizing the building theme manager for this, but it seems that it allows a building to grow 1x2 on a lot thats 1x4 if there are not props, the effect i want is to only have a 1x2 building grow on a 1x2 slot
