I've been watching Quill18 LP and I noticed how he struggles to do highway stuff properly - in overall his work looked dull and unpleasant. Also worth noticing was terrain forcing steep slopes... but  I think that's because quill was trying to do sth for a moment and wanted to make it better in future episodes. In my opinion something similar to SC4 slope mod would solve it (just for realish look) :) In my opinion highways need further tweaking - more lanes, accel/deccel lanes and such.

Next thing I noticed is sewage pollution not properly distributing over water further down the stream...

... and cars parking everywhere on the streets - couldn't guess what is traffic anymore... but maybe it's something one can get used to.

On the other hand C:S is beautiful as it is! Very impressive job :)

I must say that this game met my expectations for it from playing CIM and CIM2.

I watched quite a bit of Quill18's stream throughout the day, and for the most part was really impressed with what I saw. The game looks like it runs really well and should be a lot of fun to play. I'm really excited to try some of my ideas, and especially excited to mess around in the terrain editor.

I wasn't really a fan of the Deathcare concept. It doesn't seem to add much but can have a hugely negative impact if managed incorrectly. Maybe Quill just designed them poorly but they had a big impact on his city several times. The curved road tool also looked a little difficult to manage, but that could be due to rushing through building them to keep the stream moving. Freight looks like the biggest factor in traffic, and I'm looking forward to trying to design an efficient road/rail network to handle it.

Definitely appreciate you guys showing the game off a bit early and working with the community throughout the process.

Game looks really good and fun.  Appears to be more challenging than SimCity titles which is a good thing for me.  I like that you have to have deathcare but I don't know if it was glitching out during Quill's stream or not and I felt like when I was watching Lyric the game could've possibly given him more hints on how to solve his high death issue?  I just feel like it would be good for it to offer some guidance to newcomers.

First, thanks for listening to our feedback.

I absolutely loved it!  The game rocks!  I watched Quill and a few others on Twitch play the game.  My observations are below.

The game seems really deep and really fun.  I like how you can set the different policies for parts of the city.  I also really enjoy the amount of detail in managing public transportation.  This really helps you get a better grip on how the city grows.  I was a little surprised to see that passenger and cargo trains shared the same tracks.  Maybe I misinterpreted what I saw, but it's not a big deal either way.  I also love the traffic simulation.  The road options are truly impressive.

I also love the sizes of the cities.  They can be really, really huge so I think that's a good thing.

I also like that the games seemed smooth and really going well.  I don't know about graphic quality because my streams didn't handle high graphic quality too well so I will have to see on Tuesday when I get the game.

As you know, I love the Chirper.  Though I hope that there is more variety, humor and wit in the tweets.  Can that be moded?

I don't think you (Colossal Oder) understand how deep this game can potentially be (that's a compliment!).  This game seems to be most of what I always wanted in a city builder.

Some things I would love to see:

  • *I would really enjoy being able to see the underground train and the different stations.
  • *It would be great to be able to have massive transportation hubs like Penn Station in the U.S. where buses, subway trains, commuter trains, etc... all meet.
  • *Train stations - above and underground - should be able to increase in size and complexity with the more lines that come to the station.  So, for example, a train station that only has 2 lines (i.e. north and south) should be one size.  A station that has 4 lines (north, south, east, west) should be bigger both above and underground.
  • *It would be great to be able to have polls of city residents on issues, and mayor popularity ratings.  Citizens responses should be dynamic and not at all too predictable.  For example, low taxes might be good to some degree, but the cuts in service may be worse.  *Study how real populations respond to different things and simulate that.
  • *Citizens should also have their tastes change over time.
  • *It would be great to have a news channel that is covering the city.  Sort of like a fictional news network.
  • *Add more building models, car models, etc...
  • *Public transportation systems should be able to upgrade.  For example, at some point we should be able to upgrade the fleet of buses and trains.  Please also add more train models.
  • *It would be great to have the subway system be able to come above ground at times.
  • *Bigger airports.  It would be great to build a huge mega airport by adding on to it.  In fact, it would be great to do that for all structures.
  • *Show the construction trucks.
  • *It would be great to show street and highway construction.

That's all for now.  I am purchasing the deluxe version of the game for Mac.  I just want you to know that I think you have done a fantastic awesome job with the game.  It really looks good.  I like that the team is responsive.

I have been watching Skye Storme let’s play fantastic stuff. I agree the Game looks really good hopefully after two years since we had the SimCity13 release we have a game that should have been.

I have watched Quill and Arumba. One small point is that wind farms seem to be the most efficient type of energy in terms of cost. Now this isnt really true in real life. Big dirty coal plants for example need to be a legitimate choice. Space isnt an issue like SC13 so for me wind should be considerably more expensive per MW or wind power should fluctuate a lot more according to weather. This will make it something to think about. Cheap dirty reliable energy or clean expensive and fluctuating supply...

Game looks great though. Some more building/vehicle variation would be good too although this may be addressed on release version?

I also want to add I echo the points of BlitzPackage above but I think CO are probably aware of these future 'wants' already. Id like to add more resources to it including oil coal water table etc.

Another observation from lets plays that has been mentioned to is merging lanes and on/off ramps without need for traffic lights everywhere. Azure maybe you can ckarify CO position on this as it is a often requested feature. Is this something to be looked at or are other things higher up priority list?

Again, great looking game and everyone associated should be proud. Making one comparison to SC13 its nice to see the straightjacket of one tile limitation of that game removed. 2 tiles suddenly look huge. 9 tiles... Wow cant wait

From what I've seen so far, it looks pretty good. You seem to need too many waste places though. Maybe too many cemeteries, too.

    *scribbling notes furiously*

Awesome feedback! Concerning deathcare, I think that Quill's gameplay over-exaggerated the problem, haha, but we'll definitely be making tweaks and adjustments in order to make it better. Many people, even experienced city-builders, aren't used to that level of simulation in city services. I know I wasn't when I first tested the game. It kind of hits you that all of a sudden that your traffic-jammed streets actually make a difference in your city!

Tunnels and W2W European style buildings are confirmed to be first on the to-do list. Merging lanes and better looking highways are a high priority, and will probably be worked on soon after release.

I've found Skyestorme's posts most informative. Clear explanation and example of game play, straightforward opinion.

I saw a stream of this very briefly last night and was intrigued -- very pleased to see there's community engagement here, as well!  I have to learn more about and see more before I can really offer suggestions.  I just wanted to show thanks for engaging the community in the development process.

Looking great. Only four things bothered me.

    1. Industrial ground pollution should be brown not purple.

    2. Train stations and rail freight stations should be able to be snapped onto railway lines.

    3. Wind power should be rather expensive to maintain and power output should vary depending on wind speed.

    4. Coal and oil power stations should produce vastly more power than wind turbines, ditch the green utopia and make coal and oil power economically viable in the game: lots of power output, cheaper to run per mega watt and so forth. Like it is in real life!

I really loved watching the live streams! Skye Storme is my favorite, Etalyx is my second favorite, followed by Quill18 and trailed by Arumba. I looked at a couple other streams but nothing popped out as exceptionally good. The streams make me extremely excited for Cities: Skylines. It is a shame I won't get to play it much until after my winter quarter final (on March 17).

Fair enough. It was painful to watch and not being able to fix the obvious problem. On one side of the map, I would have drawn a second, larger road going around from the side. This would have also shown something about how the traffic simulation handles such a situation. But I guess I'll see next week :).

I love what I see of this game. I'd like to have elevated rail stations with a small street footprint. This would free the way for all those hearses and the constant stream of ambulances [] .

I also don't mind the 1 million people limit. Even in SC4, my largest city ever had something like 1.2 million inhabitants, and it was a one-time issue. Usually, I consider my large tile SC4 cities done when they reach something between 300k-600k inhabitants max. They tend to get rural around the edges.

I like what I have seen so far and plan to get the game I would like to see some one playing with the terraforming tools just to see what is possible. and I know its new but would love to see a road geek playing as well as that really ends up being the heart of the game.

I have watched a few of them and have been very impressed by what I have seen of the game.

The people playing made some truly ugly stuff though!

I can't wait to see what the community here does with it. I can see SC4 like journals with impressive roads and imagination.

Watching the lets plays just makes me crazy frustrated to play the game... I seriously haven't looked forward to a game like this for such a long time! If they where in the room I almost feel like I would be the impatient child trying to push in and snatch the keyboard and mouse so I can play. Still just a few more days to wait lol.

I have noticed that the taxes are really paying out well, almost too well. Might be too easy in non hard mode. These guys make it look not as easy, but that is just because they are new to the game and honestly bad at it.

As for the traffic there seem to be some really flaws.

    1. Cars and trucks using only the outside lane to get off the highway even when they are still 3 tiles away from getting to an off ramp.

    2. Industry heavy trucks filled with 100t leaving factories faster then sims move from house to work. I mean, I know the time is a relative concept in this game, but those trucks are obeying one "time law" and colliding in the traffic with workers that obey another.

    3. As you buy more tiles and get closer to the outside connection the cars coming from the outside start using the same higways as your inter city cars. They should be made to spawn on all sides of the city tiles that are taken not just the closest ones.

Game looks good. Quill18 looks like he might be the worlds first fatal victim of city building game addiction. I don't even think Quill18 is much of a city building fan. Wait till this game gets in the hands of some real city building fans...this game addiction stuff could get ugly.

The road/rail building mechanics look great. But I think there is only 2 building densities. the cities look very dense, or they densify a bit too quickly. I like the bus route planning from cities in motion and cities xl too. I do like the big industrial building placement from SimCity 2013 like the refinery and smelters looks like that is not here but whatever.

Sky Storme is undoubtedly the second victim of city building game addiction. He has made some great let's play videos and his style is very smooth and elegant.

I have been watching Skye Storms' videos.  I like his explanations and common sense approach.  I like his voice better as well. el-ick-tricity.  lol

I do notice a lot of traffic in single file all seemingly all going the same way.  They need alternate routes to go around cars when blocked.  Lots of city circle jams, usually caused by what looks like too many and too close intersections.

Maybe we need a zoneless road option so we can build a road with nothing on it. so less traffic.   Or maybe zone two roads with room between for a road ?  Or will it allow overlapping zones?

I love the parking lanes on the streets, and the parking lots in the building space as well.

Upgrading roads/buildings are nice as well as partial refund for bulldozing the wrong building or in the wrong spot.

I hate the tweety bird and other popups.  hope there's a feature to remove them.

    All-in-all, very well so far.

British gamers are the best. As for Skye Storm's approach his style is way better than other let's plays and far more aesthetically pleasing.

Here's another Let's play, by yours truly. This one is me playing the game for the first time, so I of course derp around quite a bit and the city planning is chaotic to say the least. Hopefully you'll enjoy it anyways ;)  Episodes are coming out every other day, next coming out tomorrow.

I'm a 30 year old man and I feel like the day I was a kid waiting for the release of SimCity 2000.  (I didn't get to play it that night, got caught that I had homework to do.  Brother played in front of me. Evil.)

I pre-ordered the deluxe and I had zero problems paying $40 for the amount of hours I will easily pour into this game (I spent double that for the latest SimCity).  The ethusiasm is huge and you've seen it with Twitch, Steam sales and the community.  I think you have something big here and I hope you have enough success to build a franchise that is as impactful as SimCity was for us that grew up with it.

It honestly feels like with the recent Maxis news and you guys launching your game, it's as if the torch is being passed.

Now I need to figure out what to do with myself for the next few days, it's sitting in my steam library taunting me.

I am almost 33, and there are VERY few games I've ever lost sleep over. Rollercoaster Tycoon (the first one) Transport Tycoon Deluxe, and Sim City 2000 are the only ones that come to mind.  I remember as a kid sneaking out of my bedroom at 2 in the morning into the home office and quietly playing SC2k until 6am, then sneaking back to bed. I did that for several days until sleep deprivation started catching up with me and I was forced to go back to a normal night time sleeping schedule. How thrilling would it be if this game gives me that kind of anticipation again!
