My Tryst with anime started with KissXsis (it's gonna raise a lot of eyebrows :P ) but apart from all the Perverted and jokes of sexual nature it's actually a very funny show now after i was finished with KissXsis i wondered which anime should i move on to next i asked a couple of my friends they suggested me to watch Hayate the combat butler. I only like comedy based anime i am not into serious anime shows like Deathnote which is quite good i heard. Right now i just got over with 1st season of Hayate and would be moving on to the next season.

So what are you guys watching ?

The anime I'm currently watching is Coppelion. In it, a nuclear disaster that hit Tokyo in 2016. The government returned years later to search for and retrieve survivors. Part of the search team is made up of three girls who were genetically modified to be immune to radiation. When they were searching for survivors they discovered a society of its own and now they are fighting with one of the social classes. It is really good. I'm a fan of science fiction stuff like that. Although I'm not sure how realistic it is. If you would have to evacuate probably 20 million people, where would they all go? Japan already has very limited land for new development, especially in the central part of the country. Anyway, I like the series and I'm also new to anime. This is only my second show. My first anime was called Chobits and it was about this class of robotic computer people called persacoms. The main character has a special one that is more powerful than all the others and he ends up falling in love with it.

OMG. I can't believe Sart starting this thread. I never knew you were an anime guy!  :thumb:

Anyway, I can't totally recall the early anime I have watched perhaps some of those that truly stand out were Flame of Recca, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters., Ghostfighter, Slam Dunk, Hunter X Hunter, Angelic Layer and Detective Conan. Truly, childhood in a nutshell. Oh wait, Doraemon and Kurochan (anime about cats) are also in the box too. I started watching a few ones later in high school but have never truly finished them like Fruits Basket, Samurai X and several shounen and shoujo anime I already forgot the titles are.

I am currently watching Black Bullet.

Before I 'got out of anime' for a couple years, I really liked stuff like Hayate no Gotoku, Zero no Tsukaima, Toaru Majutsu no index, and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun.  I did watch Digimon Adventure and 02 when I was young, but Inuyasha was the first series I torrented way back when.

These days, I've been watching Denki-gai no Honya-san and Nichijou.  I honestly didn't like Nichijou until several episodes in, and like the first episodes much more with a rewatch.

I think my first anime was probably dragon ball like a lot of people my age. Cartoon Network also aired ronin warriors sailor moon pokemon and a handful of other shows in the 90s before they got serious with their anime programming.

In the last year, not counting things I already saw and rewatched, I watched Kare Kano, Ruroni Kenshin (wasn't able to catch most the episodes on cartoon network when it aired), Captain Earth, Akame no Kill, Nausicaa, Nadia Secret of Blue Water, Kill la Kill, and Victory Gundam. I'm also obligated to keep up with the current gundam series, whether I like to or not. :P

For manga I read the Nausicaa manga, and I'm working on the Evangelion manga.

On my to-watch list is Gunbusters, Ping Pong, and Kyousougiga. On my to-read list is just Sunny by Taiyo Matsumoto. Plus whatever shows and manga I've forgotten. :P

It's a great time to like anime. 10-15 years ago something like crunchyroll where you have a large volume of current shows being simucast for free online would have been unimaginable. And if you want to buy something there's so much available and you can get an entire series on blu ray for what you used to have to pay for only a handful of episodes on dvd or vhs. Get off my lawn whippersnappers!!! :P

My first was "Tranzor Z," the Americanized version of giant robot anime "Mazinger Z."  I don't remember too much of the show aside from the helicopter landing in the robot's head to become the cockpit and the freakishly bizarre, two-faced, hooded villain aboard the command submarine.  This was the fun, cardboard-Tokyo era of live-action tokusatsu like "Ultraman," "Dynaman," "Battle Fever J," and "Kikaider."  Soon came "Battle of the Planets" (Americanized "Gatchaman"), and then by "Star Blazers" (Americanized "Space Battleship Yamato").  I am sure there was no irony whatsoever in me rooting for the revived, spacefaring flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy while living on Oahu overlooking Pearl Harbor.  I admit, I was also rooting for the Comet Empire.  "Star Wars" may have been the worldwide rage, but "Star Blazers" was far more moving, even for us impressionable kids.  Also at this time came out the New World adventure "The Mysterious Cities of Gold," my first history-themed anime.

The greatest shounen show in all childhood was "Robotech" (Americanized "Macross," "Southern Cross," and "Mospeada"), and when ace pilot Roy Focker bought the farm, I still remember all us kids after the show bolting out of our houses and into the community playing field to share in our collective trauma.  Cartoon deaths had been banned and censored on U.S. broadcast television at the time, and so "Star Blazers" and "Robotech," even in their heavily edited forms, shocked us all with space funerals, kamikaze dives, and fallen soldiers.  '70s and '80s childhood fare...gosh, I sound old.  I admit, I managed to save Lancer's green VFA-6I fighter from the ravages of little brothers and still have it posing on a bookcase.  Along with precious Robotech models I had toys for "Super Dimensional Century Orguss," and likely had watched that show.  Little kids had toy Millennium Falcons, while cool kids had Veritech Fighters, and us nerdy kids reverse engineered our transformable Veritechs and rebuilt them using LEGOs.  Ah, the era when Japan was "buying up America"...Oahu was practically the fifth Japanese Home Island!

My first "mature audiences" show and anime movie was "Vampire Hunter D," which us underaged kids shared around like a naughty VHS.  Even more mature was "Grave of the Fireflies," which took all the bombast and luster out of end of the Pacific War.  "Akira," "Robot Carnival," and "Twilight of the Cockroaches" came out around this time as well.

One of the local cable public access channels had Thursday night anime features, which showed subtitled "Video Girl Ai," "Tenchi Muyo!," "Record of the Lodoss War," "Galaxy Express 999," "Tank Police," and even "Megazone 23."  It was always with some humor that I had to sit through the local Ku Klux Klan's public access channel marathon of revisionist Nazi documentaries while waiting for the college anime fan section to start.  I'm sure the Klan just loved that they were followed by the movie versions of the Wagnerian "Legend of the Galactic Heroes," for which I only last year was able to actually watch the full series, which I now consider among the best space operas ever made in any format.  I'd like to know what to Klan thought of being followed by "Tenchi Muyo!," my first high school harem dating show.  From the library I checked out the original "Ghost in the Shell" movie.  The VHS set of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Blue Submarine No. 6" cost me small fortunes.

Cartoon Network brought us "YuYu Hakusho," while Adult Swim brought us "Trigun," "Cowboy Bepop," "Wolf's Rain," "Fullmetal Alchemist," and "Inuyasha"!  Yes, I am a big Inuyasha fanboy, and a bonus was that the theme song "One Day, One Dream" and Kikyou's death ballad "Sotsugyou:  Sayonara wa Ashita no Tameni" were by j-pop duo Tackey & Tsubasa.  I admit to watching "Fullmetal Alchemist" not so much for the show, but for j-rockers L'Arc~en~Ciel, who performed the catchy opening "Ready Steady Go!"  The "Ghost in the Shell" series is often so over-my-head with explanatory psycho-techno-babble, but I watch because it is still mind-blowing.  I never did get into "Pokémon," "Dragon Ball Z," "Naruto," or "Bleach," but I did occasionally "Sailor Moon" and "Duel Masters," the American version of which must have been a parody dub.

The Anime Network's video-on-demand got me hooked on "Gravitation," "Full Metal Panic," "Peacemaker Kurogane," "Sakura Wars," "Prétear," "Black Blood Brothers," "Tears to Tiara," "Princess Tutu," "Gakuen Alice," "Maid Sama!," "Glass Fleet," "Utawarerumono," "Loveless," Mobile Suit Gundam SEED," "Junjou Romantica," "Saiunkoku Monogatari," and "Gintama."  My original DVD sets of "Saiunkoku Monogatari" are the probably the most pink and pastel objects in my house, and sharing those precious and now rare josei sets with the fan circle got me "Chobits," "Gokusen," and "Rurouni Kenshin."  My avatar is Bakumatsu revolutionary and samurai cloudcuckoolander Katsura Kotarou from "Gintama," a show which is like an homage to Kenshin that parodies all other anime.  The mangaka has vowed never to parody Kenshin.  Anime "Gokusen" is not quite as inane as the live-action drama, but its best feature is the ending song "Onore Michi," which made me a fan of enka goddess Yashiro Aki.

Crunchyroll brought more "Gintama," "Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi," "La Corda d'Oro," "S · A:  Special A," "Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru," "Skip Beat!," and "Love Stage!!"

Last year I watched "Space Battleship Yamato 2199," an astonishing reboot of the groundbreaking "Star Blazers" series I had watched back in the late 1970s.  I had also finished the series of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" and "Natsuyuki Rendezvous."  Cartoon Network recently did late night weekend features of "Hellsing Ultimate," which was like an even gorier throwback to "Vampire Hunter D."  I guess I like my vampires stoic and tragically romantic rather than depraved and blood-crazed.  "Fusoku no Renjou" was cute, but, like "Tono no Issho," was way too short as 4-minute gag shows.

I'm currently watching via Crunchyroll "Yowamushi Pedal Grande Road," the second season of the competitive bicycling anime "Yowamushi Pedal."  The trope-filled series first started airing in 2013, and even now in 2015 we still haven't yet reached the finish line of the momentous Big Race, but I do not dare spoil it by looking up the manga.  Race rival Midousuji Akira will probably go down as one of the freakiest face villains since, well, since that hooded-witch loon on the submarine in "Tranzor Z."  I also started "Yona of the Dawn," which is really looking like another "Saiunkoku Monogatari," except set in ancient Korea rather than in ancient China.  The "Space Battleship Yamato 2199:  Ark of the Stars" movie came out in Japan this past December, and reviews suggest it plays like a pilot for a new second season featuring the Comet Empire.  I can't wait!  Also on the watch list is "Tactics," as I'm a sucker for anything set in the Meiji Era.  Maybe even "Minami-ke" or "Chibi Vampire"...

I've dabbled a bit but never gotten crazy into it.

I watched some of the Rockman.EXE and Shooting Star Rockman anime series because hey, Mega Man. In tangential discussions I ended up subsequently watching the entirety of Azumanga Daioh and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya because they were trending at the time.

I find just sitting there watching stuff by myself to be tedious, though, and I have little patience for it. So what I watch is mostly swayed by what other people in my life want to watch with me, and due to my girlfriend's preferences that means Doctor Who instead of anime.

I've seen the Ghibli ones (they're all pretty good) and I liked Cowboy Bebop and Akira.  I tried Evangelion twice, but I just... didn't find it entertaining.  Kon Satoshi made some interesting movies, A Perfect Blue was very good, and Paprika was a great concept ruined by a cheesy ending.  That reminds me of Summer Wars, what an interesting concept that was, and then the ending completely excreted all over it, wasting everything that was built up.  "I AM SPARTACUS!" just doesn't work in every single application.

Anyways, I saw Akira and probably Sailor Moon first back in the mid 90s, and Akira is still probably the best anime I've ever seen, although Cowboy Bebop's amazing usage of music I found highly entertaining as well.  I haven't seen much otherwise, and I'm disinclined to delve too much deeper in it to find the jewels.  They have proven too few and far between for my taste (or my lack of taste, as it were).

I forgot to mention Non Non Biyori. With how awful daily life is, a little iyashikei feels really nice.

I enjoyed Macross 7 and Macross Frontier back in the day. I even have the soundtrack of the latter.

Well, here's my short life story with anime. I've only been watching actual anime series for less than 2 years now, and it's been in sporadic bursts where I go nuts and bingewatch a few series and then don't watch anything for a while. Due to this, I haven't actually watched all that much so I put together a list of all the stuff I thought was worth mentioning. There are a few extras that I didn't include in this story simply because they weren't worth the time.

While I have seen a number of the Studio Ghibli productions throughout the years, the first actual anime TV series that I watched was Evangelion (a few years ago). My cousin decided to show it to me, and, admittedly it isn't a particularly great "intro" to anime series considering its pretty dark nature. Regardless of that, I enjoyed it immensely and decided to watch some more stuff.

It was a little while before I actually started watching stuff on my own (I hadn't yet learned of torrents!). Once I did, I kept going with the shounen/action stuff for a bit; I ended up watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Code Geass (on recommendation from my cousin). I actually watched those shows at the same time and finished both of them up (62 and 50 episodes, respectively) in like 4 or 5 days (Yeah, I'm a horrid bingewatcher). After that bit of action anime, I started fumbling through lists of good anime. I ended up remembering that sometime ago when I was like 10 my dad had put a show called Spice and Wolf in our Netflix queue. This particular show kept appearing in the 30's on a number of "top 100" lists so I decided I might as well try it. It was a pretty drastic change form the action stuff I had been watching, but Spice and Wolf was a seriously enjoyable show for me (hence my current avatar, yeah?).

After some time passed, I learned that one of my friends in an MMO I had been playing for the past 3 years was a huge anime buff, so I started getting recommendations from him. His tastes, however, revolved around highschool romcoms and such, so it was another big change for me! At first he got me to watch Angel Beats!, which was slightly more action-centric than most of the stuff he got me to watch. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the show quite a bit and got teary eyed once or twice (although I admittedly only really understood everything that happened when I re-watched it a few weeks ago). After that I started watching some straight-up romcoms like Clannad, Toradora!, Golden Time, Kanon 2006, and Little Busters!. I really enjoyed all of these shows, although Clannad and Little Busters! probably have to be my favorites of the bunch.

To inject some action back in my anime lineup I turned to Valkyria Chronicles, which was a pretty fun watch. Since it combined some decent characters with an enjoyable story (from my PoV at least), it's certainly something I'll remember. After that, I watched Zero no Tsukaima, which was certainly an entertaining series. It was eclipsed, however, by Shakugan no Shana; I probably liked that series so much because I found the writing pretty good, the characters fun, and the action pretty cool. In addition to that, I also tend to favor tsundere characters as long as they aren't over-the-top or obnoxious.

After watching those series (which admittedly took a while since Shakugan was fairly long in comparison to most of the stuff I had watched so far), I returned to romcoms. this time, however, I lucked out and stumbled across Amagami SS. This show in particular stands out among the other harems I've seen due to it's format of showing all of the relationships. It basically covered the same time period but with 6 different versions of the story (each variation had 6 episodes). This was a bit more satisfying than the typical harem because it avoided the anger harems tend to cause when they don't go your way! :]

I followed that up with some new (2014) stuff: Nisekoi and Amagi Brilliant Park. Amagi was pretty entertaining considering its relatively odd story, and I certainly still have my hopes high that another season will come out. Nisekoi (which has a second season coming out this April, thankfully) was fun watch for sure. The show had a balanced amount of comedy and seriousness, and I'm really looking forward to the second season.

That takes me to my most recent watch: Kokoro Connect. Yeesh, where do I even start. I guess I could say it pretty quickly took the cake as my favorite anime so far (actually been considering updating my avatar accordingly...). While series, at 17 episodes, is painfully short, it was a seriously good watch. I probably enjoyed it due to the entertaining nature of some of the supernatural events that take place, as well as the frequently humorous actions and words of the characters. Despite the comedy, it was serious enough to hold my attention and the non-supernatural troubles that the characters face (basically their social problems :P ) seemed like a pretty true representation of plenty of highschoolers. I guess I either liked it because of that or because Inaba is boss, take your pick.

Yeah I'm probably gonna have to use this thread as a hunting ground for more anime to watch.

    -Mush

I guess technically my first anime would have been Pokemon. I saw a few episodes and watched a movie. I never really watched it much as a child however, it wasn't until maybe high school when I watched Pokemon. But I've gotten more into it now.

I don't know what is the difference between manga and anime and all that stuff, but I think the first Japanese/Chinese thing I ever watched was Pokémon. The best is of course Avatar: The Last Airbender and I'm currently not very into anime.

Interesting replies especially those who really took time to write essays.   That's one hell of a long list of anime that you guys have watched although I have seem to have also watched most of the replies here. It is interesting that we despite the myriad list of anime seems to watch only those who are truly famous. Well I was never an anime guy to begin with until last year. Any years prior to that, I watch anime only for fun.

Wanna share some coffee while watching Death Parade?  :ooh:

I have a read a lot of manga, there is still app for iPad which enables to me read manga easily so I can assume that by now I have already read more than 100 of them which some I never actually finished. Some titles are really hard to remember and some aren't really famous at all.
