Well, I was going for a Chicago 3-flats neighborhood... so I guess my plan succeeded:

Has a nice comblock vibe going on.

This one is a couple months ago. At the time I didn't quite understand how the demand system worked.

I zoned a set of 3x4s, and was a tad surprised when all these Impeccable Tenements suddenly grew on the northern banks of the Charles River, in Boston.

At about 2500 R$ sims in each one, I then spent the next few weeks getting them all employed!

Ten ferry terminals, two monorail stations, a brand new monorail network, a whole new commercial zone, and a new neighbour city with a mass of industry, and phew, I managed to get rid of the last No Job Zot.  It makes me sad to see unemployed sims.  >.<

That was with SimCity 4 Rush Hour vanilla, and it was a tad bit harder back then, to find those unfit sims happy commutes with a minimum of walking distance!  *

You're nicer to your Sims than I am. Those buildings never would have stayed. I don't bend to my Sims. lol *:P

I still like to be nice to them, but I'm getting better at bending those sims to my will these days.

"You will build your tenement where I tell you, and no where else!"  *;)

I've a mean trick up my sleeve now.  I run the simulator several times on Cheetah mode (aka "Cheater"?), to see what happens, then I go back and tweak some things, turning hindsight into foresight.  Those sims cannot trip up a Mayor who has foreknowledge of what the future holds.  The transient aura effect rather comes in handy, too, for making development happen where I want it.

I tend to use the God Mode trees as a way of saying "HEY LOOK AT THIS ZONE, I WANT YOU TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ZONE"!  *:D  Not even sure if that works or not, but I do it anyways. lol

Oooh, that's interesting, I've been using Mayor mode trees for that job.  I'll try God mode trees and see if that works just as well.  :-)

A clerical error resulted in Depiesse's Diner Inc. accidentally approving 77 adjacent franchises along a single road in the same small city.

Duh, I know that. I mean which one?

Where's Wally?
... I mean where's wally's twins?
... I mean where are all these twins?

Anybody else remember "Where's Wally"?

SimCity seems to have a penchant for raising up two identical buildings, right next to each other.  Most of the time it doesn't, of course, but every once in awhile.  I usually do a "Mark Historical" on them when they happen, because it's cute.  I do wonder if it's completely random, or if there is some kind of a building magnet that attracts particular lots to certain areas.

Here's one such scene in my Breezy Point large city tile (my first inner-city tram suburb), which makes me feel sure that there really must be a building magnet at work.  Sometimes I push the game for these twins, using the bulldozer, but this time, every single one of these twins came up all by itself.  :ooh:

Anyone wanna play?  There's 19 twins in the picture, pairs of buildings, the exact same building type and size, adjacent, sharing a side, not just a corner — immediately adjacent, not just across the street — a pair of just two buildings, not counting threes, fours and more.  To make things a wee bit tricky, some of the buildings are rotated.  There are:

  • 1 pair of government funded plops.
  • 3 pairs of high density residential.
  • 7 pairs (ooops, 8 pairs) of commercial lots, along avenues and beachfront.
  • 7 pairs of medium density residential

Can you spot them?   *:D
( solution picture in the hidden section below ... or just click on the picture and use arrow keys to see )  :uhm: *

There's at least two tiny little low density residential twins, too, rounding out the total to 21, but I didn't include them because they're too darn hard to see.  :boggle:

Here's Green Meadows, my latest suburb in Jamaica Bay.  The meadows here used to be green, at least.

They took all the trees
And put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to seem 'em

No no no
Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got
Til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

— Joni Mitchell, Big Yellow Taxi

It's a subway suburb, with street access only, each set of buildings clustered around grass pedmalls, parks, and a subway entrance.  You can see a couple of the subway entrances if you look closely.  It's grown in stages, R$ first, then R$$, using taxation to stage the development, as @CorinaMarie described so well in this tutorial:

https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/757812-selective-residential-revamping/

These eight Large Tenements sprang up, lined up rather neatly, too!  :)

Admittedly, that was third time lucky, exiting without saving the first two times.  I like my residential zones to look planned, rather than just random buildings sprouting up.  My city was very ready for the high density zoning, so it was only the last Large Tenement that needed some urging and coaxing ... by plopping a couple nearby bus stops and bulldozing them.  *

Its actually possible to create as many tilesets as you want in SimCity? If that is the case it would make my medival town centres a lot easier.

Technically the limit will be about 4,294,967,295 available tilesets, which we think will be more than a plentiful amount for quite a while. *;)

(Minus about 100 which are reserved ranges, but still probably enough!)

A lot of dense housing at the edge of the city. Keep it up. I see a school and hospital in the lower right...how are their radii?

It's visually weird...but the residents seem to have plenty of backyard space.
