Looks absolutely stunning!

It's even nicer that you did this because 3-engined planes are quite hard to find for the game.

There was one other three-engined jet i've seen for SimCity. It was made by Fanta and he based it on the Falcon 700 from CXL. But yes, the trijets are somewhat rare for the game. Most of the aircraft I see in city journals are modern Airbuses and Boeings. It's a shame there isn't much more diversity for aircraft.

For this file, it was suggested by MisterGiggles that I include a template in case anyone makes their own. There will be two zip folders uploaded once this project is finished.

The model does look spectacular, and I do feel interested in trying to make my own jet livery for the plane (assuming that's what you meant ^_^ ). In regards to the L1011 however, that is (unfortunately) one of my favorite planes just to look at. And yes, it is largely because of the tail engine design. ^_^

Making a livery sounds quite fun! Frankly I wish more of the vehicle mods out there that involve vehicles with liveries (like trucks and vans for example) had a template for people to make their own to add into the game. Variety is king!

It's a beautiful model and the textures look brilliant. But there's still an elephant in the room...

There's just something weird about McDonnells. They have strange proportions, they're not as safe as Boeings and they are very noisy. I don't know if you've guessed it yet, but I'm not a big fan. Will probably get this anyway because you're doing such a damn good work on it, and because the DC-10 is not as bad as the MD-80. :D

You will have the chance to make your own livery! I just had to write up a quick tutorial on doing a simple re-skin on the aircraft in question. It's taken a while but I should have it complete and uploaded soon along with the finished package.

I personally believe the DC-10 isn't that bad of a jet, just that it was a victim of corner-cutting. The manufacturer cut corners in passing off it's first built aircraft with flawed cargo doors and it led to not one, but two incidents with the door blowing off. And it was AA's fault that they didn't follow proper maintenance procedures in switching the port engine on AA 191.

Great news, the updated DC-10 is now online! The developer files are not quite ready, just need a little extra time to refine the instructions that are to be included. In the meantime, click on the cover photo to download your copy of the PanAm version!

Hey, airman! What about a NASA Boeing carrying a Space Shuttle? :)
I've an edited model I used for other things months ago if you want.

Srainy already beat me to it! It's a fireplane replacement but it's a very well done model worth checking out!

Older aircraft don't seem to get very much attention in games anymore. The only jets I have seen from the Cities games for example are the A380, Dassault Falcons, and a 4-engined prop plane that looks like an ATR. On the other hand, several vanilla aircraft of SC4 are modeled after ones that are no longer in production like the 707 and the BAE 146.

The Sonic Cruisers are in progress again and very soon I should have the first render shots soon!

In the meantime, GM will increase it's presence in your cities with some Chevrolet S10's! This was a request by Titanicbuff and we think it would be great to have more Chevrolet trucks in the game.

Yup- and with all the details we went through including a picture of the one I drive, we can't go wrong on this.

After a series of delays and setbacks, I can finally bring an official render test! There are still a few shading kinks  and a few last minute addons i'll need to iron out but this is how each aircraft will look in HD-

That's a really sweet (and futuristic :P) looking plane! You did a superb job on the modeling in my opinion.

Wow, that turned out great! :golly:

The plane looks soooo odd, though. It's as if the development process had been roughly like this:

"Hey, look - I just messed with John Doe's model airplane! I took the horizontal stabilizers off the tail and glued them to this section behind the cockpit!"
    - "Bwahaha, brilliant! Now let's saw off the wings and glue them to the tail!"
"Naah, a simple swap would be too easy. It needs some more pizazz. I know! Let's make a hybrid between these wings and the delta wing of a Concorde, and glue THAT to the tail!"
    - "You're on a roll, man! But where to put the vertical stabilizer? And the engines?"
"Engines, engines... hmm... hey, ever seen an SR-71? Look, I'm attaching them right here!"
    - "LOL, and now let's glue TWO vertical stabilizers right onto the engines!"
    *high fives and laughter*

I never noticed that before. It really does look a lot like a SR-71 Blackbird. Maybe the designers got some inspiration from it?

I'm convinced there would have been alcohol involved in that exchange.. on the other hand there have been other insane designs to be thought up. Imagine if Convair had a few orders placed for the XFY Pogo-

I totally get the SR-71 vibe...

You know, now that I think about it it sort of does have a Blackbird-esque look to it! If the canards were lopped off and the s-ducts for the engines were straightened out, it would totally be a civilian Blackbird!

Just like the 707 I released several months ago, the Sonic Cruisers will feature nightlights. The tails are also to include spotlights to show the tail markings at night however when I go to test them in the previews they just seem to turn themselves off. It's getting really irritating because I want to move onto fixing the shading on the wingtips and nose above the windscreen.

If anyone can give me some insight to fixing these problems (since I have tried several different ways of troubleshooting), I would greatly appreciate it.

Now that one looks like one of the "egg plane" model kits. And for extra giggles and since we've been talking about it, here's an egg plane SR-71. :P

Oh lord! Those egg plane kits make the meanest and sleekest fighters look like cartoons! :P

It's a little hard to tell, but those are spotlights on the tail!
