Hey guys,

I wanted to ask you all something.

I have a dilemma with regards to buy the game.

I have been hearing stories about bad reviews about the game but personally I don't see a reason why its bad.

Obviously it could be done better or they could fix some bugs before releasing it and blah blah blah I won't go to deeply.

Is it worth buying the game now? the deluxe edition or the regular edition? and whether I should get the expansions?

Also they did not clarify whether there is a lot of players playing multiplayer right now which resulted me to other alternative forms for the time being for single player mode.

Are there still a lot of players playing online right now since they stated that there were couple of serious bugs that they did not address up to now?

Note that I am from Malaysia so buying the game is 3 fold more than USD. I know. its hard to even buy Battlefield 4 Premium too but that was worth the investment for me.

Thanks

I've been playing it a little over 2 months now and absolutely love it.  There are still some bugs but nothing that would stop me from playing.  I recently switched to playing in offline mode to take advantage of some of the great new mods out and I do find it performs better than it did online.

I personally love this game, I have played every single day for 3 months now, yes there are some bugs, but the community has been working around them and some of the mods being created also address bugs, oh and the mods are so cool if you don't mind playing single player. The price your paying is expensive but with all the mods being created all the time there is always something new to do.

If you have OCD like me you will love this game

Good game but SC4 is more addictive. SC2013 you play a city for a few days actively, then suddenly everyone leaves the region and it dies. Rinse and repeat. Small city tiles ruin gameplay and sense of accomplishment that SC4 gives you. I wouldnt bother playing it offline since the only reason its even good IMO is being able to do some limited activities with others.

Ok, so I've been debating for a long time whether I should go ahead and buy SimCity 2013. I had been holding off from buying it because of the 'always online' requirement, but now that it is removed I considered in spending my hard earned cash and purchasing it.   I have been playing SimCity since SC2000 came out and so far SC4 is by far my favorite version.  I have been watching the "Sim City Walkthrough" series by Gameriot on youtube.  So far I have watched 65 of his episodes and below is what I like and dislike about the game from what I have observed so far:

Like:

  1. Laying out the road system seems very easy to do.
  2. Upgrading the roads/avenues is straightforward, (but somewhat tedious).
  3. Being able to lay down curved roads
  4. Being able to upgrade facilities like fire, police, school...etc. (this is a big bonus in my opinion)
  5. The graphics are good and the fact it is 3D is a big plus
  6. The 3D camera seems smooth and easy to use
  7. The street level looks fantastic
  8. Bus Stops are on the side of the road and easy to install
  9. Being able to use and manage resources like ore, coal, oil, water etc..
  10. Able to share city services like fire, education, police...etc with neighbors
  11. Being able to send 'gifts' to neighbor cities.
  12. Building the 'Great Works'
  13. Vehicles actually drive to/from their destinations.  You can actually see them arrive.
  14. Lots conform to the shape of the road.
  15. The User Interface seems intuitive and easy to use.
  16. The data views are comprehensive and seem to provide useful information.

Dislikes:

  1. Cities in the region don't necessarily border each other.  This makes it virtually impossible to build a realistic large city (like Chicago or New York).  All you get is a discontinuous small grouping of buildings
  2. Region transportation is already laid out for you.  I would rather build it myself they way I want to and in the way I like it.
  3. The city size is too small.  I would rather have a variety of city sizes available as in SC4.  I know everybody complains about the city size, but watching somebody play the game really emphasized just how small they really are.  It almost has a SC2000 feel to it. (These first 3 dislikes could be a deal killer for me).
  4. No terraforming your own region available.
  5. Deleting a road deletes the builds too.  Not good.
  6. Can't turn off the day/night cycle
  7. No Highways or one way roads available for you to build.
  8. Can' use roads or avenues to make your own inter-city connections.
  9. The zone density is controlled by the road it's next to.
  10. Can't zoom in on the 'Great Works'
  11. Train tracks can take unrealistic turns (pretty much an issue with all SimCity games)

Things that make me go 'What'?

  1. Budget based on an hourly time schedule.  I don't know of any city or government entity that budgets things on an hourly basis.  This seems very odd to me.
  2. Trees come back instantly after bulldozing a structure that destroyed them.
  3. Power and water carried by the roads.  I was used to having to lay my own water pipes and power lines. Sometimes I liked it because it added another layer of detail.  However, I could get used to not having to worry about laying down a pipe or power line system.

So, what is your opinion?  Should I go ahead and purchase the game?  My feeling is that I probably will buy SimCity 2013 but am uncertain if it can hold my attention in the long haul.  I feel like I would play it for a while but eventually go back to playing SimCity 4.  After all I have been playing SC4 for 10 years now and I still enjoy it.

I just did some browsing on reddit and I came across this. Hope this help. However, I can't decide why you should or shouldn't.

Personally, I agree with all the cons of this game. Yet, I bought it just because I did played 'SimCity 2000' years back, it was fun and I wanted to try a new one. I skip 4. Watch some videos on youtube and some people lay it out their city nicely. I'm impressed despite all the negativity from other critics. The graphics influence me to bought this game. I knew right before I click purchase button, I may wasting my money or try to make it worth every penny.

All and all, I can say that different people have different way of playing. Some are serious in functionality, some are perfectionist, designing etc, or just for fun.

Just buy Simcity Plus (it contains the game and the expansion pack) when it goes on sale.

It's on sale like every other week for $20 or less.

We also have numerous mods available now on here including one that allows you to build 100 mega towers and another one that gives you more road options including one-way.

There are other mods as well which greatly enhance the game.

I've merged Prophet42's topic with the one posted last week, as they both relate to the same subject.

I bought the game yesterday and to be honest they did a good job to bring the fun factor from sc4 into the new version. Graphics are nice and the over all feel to it is kind of what I was expecting.

BUT! The city size are way way way too small!  If I had known about that I wouldn't have bought it.  If that's not a deal braker for you, than yes it's worth the 20$.

With all due respect it wouldn't have taken much research to learn that.  Even the wikipedia page for Simcity 2013 mentions that under the critical reception heading

SimCity was also criticized for the size of the area the player is given to build a city; critics have noted it to be significantly smaller than what was available in previous games. Maxis responded to this criticism by stating that this was a deliberate compromise to ensure that the game would run smoothly on the majority of users' computers. Maxis has acknowledged that city size is a major complaint, but has stated that they are not currently working on an increase in size.

Go around the 'net, it's city-size, city-size, city-size.  I'm more surprised you didn't know it in advance.

That's good to know. Too bad I asked a refund already.

I might wait for the official fix by maxis, or maybe just try it out later. No rush!

After building my computer I blindly bought simcity5, I remember a few years back I loved sim city 4 so much that I didn't even think that the new one could actually be worse.

I played sim city since the very first one in black and white on my dad's mac in like 1988. Ever since I always bought the new version and it was just better and better until now I guess.

I'll wait out until they fix the city size problem. Until then I'll play citiesXL

I have mixed feelings about this game. On the one hand it's got many great ideas, but it also has numerous bugs and oversights that have never been fixed. Don't count on them ever being fixed, either. Maxis has been quiet for months now, probably prioritizing The Sims 4 over SimCity. However, I doubt it'll be long before the user modding community really picks up and fixes these bugs themselves. For now, if you have a good rig and some additional patience, give it a go. If not, I'd pass.

I'm involved so making comments will be bias since i and others have made huge changes to make it more enjoyable

the game is very different than it was from launch..  I and others find it much more fun and very much more i would say deep in aspects of how you can play and interact with various aspects

but you have to make a choice for yourself in the end.

I'm not buying it until they make the maps larger.   That seems to be a huge complaint with so many fans.

The game is fun but has a ton of pitfalls. Obviously the biggest is the size of cities but there are mods that help to accommodate that -- however they are a little buggy.

Despite the bad reviews i bought SC because i love city building games, i played it for 1-2 weeks straight and stopped for a little.. now i'm playing again. It's on and off for me.. it takes 2-3 hours to complete a city and then you just move on which is kinda of redundant.

So my suggestion is that if you are a big city builder fan get it, if not wait until they release a DLC to make lots bigger.

They've already stated that they have no intentions to officially release bigger maps. Looks like the Orion mod will be the only way to get bigger maps for this game.

Never say never. Maxis said that this game could never be played offline and look at what happen we can now play offline. Now there is a mod for the tile size this might just encourage Maxis to do one in the next patch. Wishfull thinking i know but you never know.
