I was just thinking of asking the forumers here in what trade (career, job, occupation) are you all in. You know just for some friendly stuff. Who knows there is a multi-millionaire here among us.. :D

For a start I'm a college student taking up a degree in mathematics.  ;)

Post away guys...  :]

Interesting idea.  I'm retired, but let's run a short CV.

First serious job: Lab tech in a manufacturing Q.A. lab.  Shift work to pay for college.

Next: Retail banking from armed messenger to branch assistant accountant (acquired some commerce credits here)

Then: Commercial Banking (Head Office) methods department, computer research and acquistion, head programmer (university part time math courses)

Then: Computer Marketing for one of the Seven Dwarves.  Moving up steadily in the industry in large scale machines.  Final position: Provincial Marketing Support Consultant.  Industry collapsed when the PC started making corporate inroads, so was let go.

Then: a few years in private vocational colleges sharpening teaching skills, and finally:

Professor of Computer Science at a public college.  Retired from there.

So let's see, that's five serious careers.  If you don't like your job, it is no place to have a career.

Oh, yeah, while I have enough career credits and actual academic credits for a doctorate, I never even got a baccalaureate because none of my credits every added up to one.  Don't think that's possible any more.

Interesting CV Nonny. You have a great run. I must say that not everyone gets to have five different jobs in a lifetime! Which one do you like the most and which one have you worked the longest? :D

ALT (assistant English teacher).  I want to write professionally, and if/when we return to the US, I have no idea what I'm going to do.  I'd like to keep teaching, but I don't have a teaching license...

Well, working in the computer industry as a software type went from 1966 to 1990 which is a fairly long run.  7 employers during that period.  Mostly, though, I enjoyed teaching.  Teaching assignments on customer sites were also part of what I did in the computer field, and I also taught boating safety and seamanship as an avocation (Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons) and was Commander of the Markham, Ontario squadron.  Public service has got to be part of any good professional life.  My late wife and I often team taught subjects in boating.  Giving back and giving it forward is important.

One of the most important things is to belong to a proper professional association.  I was a member of ACM for years and belonged to several SIGs.  I also did some work for CSA and ISO during the computer consulting period.

After finishing my degree in Mechanical Engineering, I'm working on a college near Berlin, as a research fellow on structural optimisation. Quite a cool name to englobe a variety of fields; modal testing, machine dynamics, structural health monitoring, etc.

Before that, I had several jobs just to grab money with. I spent one and a half year as a sales assistant for a safety valves and steam boilers equipment company near Barcelona, and on past Summers I have worked in several factories, mostly as production assistant or warehouse worker.

Who knows there is a multi-millionaire here among us..

Do you actually think that he/she would announce him/herself here?

"Jack of all Trades".......lol. I am a loghome (Blockhaus) Designer since 1974.

But I also opened a Taxidermy atelier a few years later (1974), which I still do once in awhile every year. In between 1971 and 1980, I did a long list of other trades, studied biology in the McGill/MacDonald College in Montreal, maybe to become a biologist, took veterinarian courses, worked as a Technician for the Minister of Agriculture (Québec), did some semi-professional car racing (mostly quarter-mile) and while doing all this, I also expoited and slowly enlargened the family farm that I bought from my parents in 1976. Starting with 160 acres of land it ended up with a little over 900 acres today, and planning to buy another neighbor this summer or maybe fall.

Today, my loghome studio is still very active with 2 young partners, I am less present since 4 years, only supervising some constructions, especially out of Canada (pssss......maybe I like to travel), my Taxidermy arts I still do on a limited basis during the wintermonths and more and more I am into farming.(mostly Beef cow/calf production and some cereals)

I am close to the mid-sixties now and leaving more of the loghome studio to the "kids" and concentrating more on farming. I have the perfect farmhelp since 1978 who is actually running the farm mostly by himself (plus hired help in each season) ever since and I help more and more each year. Just starting to love that kind of life. We now have about 120 Beef cows (mostly Angus, Highland and Charolais breeds), which brings us to a total of approximately 250 heads during the spring/ summer months, when calves, steers and heifers become a part of the herd each year.

My trades are/were versatile and that's what I always wanted and gave me a wonderful life so far. ;)

The only reason someone would is because they'd be a braggart and I don't believe there are any members here who are braggarts.  Know what I mean?
