Looks good, K! Nice to see you BATting again!

Oh, and BTW, if you want to save time, you could simply do one section of the repeating sections, and then array it after you are done. Unless of course, you have your own method that works just fine. Great work so far!

And I was wondering: are you going to do the mall at the base of it?

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

It's the first building to break the half kilometre mark (first proper building, Cn and Ostankino are just observation decks..)

If you look at pictures, it just sticks oput. Taipeis next tallest is only 47% as tall as Taipei.

Well Taiwan is not a suitable environment for very tall skyscrapers, it gets earthquakes and typhoons... but I suppose we have no where to go now but up
I'll send you a pm of all the links I found of stats/pictures in a few days KD

If you look at a picture of Taipei, they have a lot of room, and they should have probably done what Tokyo did, making thousands of buildings lower than 50 storeys. Taipei 101 really sticks out. It's probably going to end up like Petronas Towers, more than half empty. Or, almost everyone in the city will work there...

I could really use some pictures of this tower looking down from a higher elevation to get some roof details, and some detailed shots of the details on the top of each section.

You could try google. I don';t think there would be any though. If you have a lot of money, you could get digitalglobe to zoom by and get pictures of it, but I don't know how much it will cost. those types of things are expensive. I'll take a look..

-I spend a lot of time at google. Lots of interesting things can be found by googleing.

    [edit]
I fond some pics. THIS is a model of the building, it looks like it has no roof junk. THIS shows the roof of the mall (it's also a model) ANOTHER model pic of the roof.

From what I can tell, since the building has a spire, it probably doesn't have much roof junk. Maybe a couple small things, but overall, it's junkless.

I know this is probably not what you meant, but I'll give it a shot anyway:

I'll edit this post later with a better picture. Love the project so far,
and keep up the good work.

Isn't this the building that's supposed to be 1 mile high? Will the game be able to handle that?

Here are a bunch of images of the tower. I'm afraid I will not be able to elaborate much at this moment due to an already busy schedule, but you will find these images particularly useful when creating the base:

Its 509 metres, that's 0.32miles. People have made bigger things in the game. The CN tower in the game is bigger.

Thats true. The tallest building on the STEX is COBB's Altura tower ( whatever its called ) That one is like 1600' tall. The curent record is 2200' tall, but NOT on the STEX.

Well here's a few pics, in the attachment, of the top section. I could only find the one pic facing down, but it's not much help. Although you never know.

    Good luck.44.gif

progress: changed the upper part of the roof to make the curve look, worked on the decoration thing ( it now looks very nice ), and experimented with omni-shine lights to see what would look the best.
    /idealbb/files/taipei5.JPG
edit: I've run some calculations and determined that the building (not counting the mall) will be only 300,000 polys.  Just one of the petronas towers after being optimized had 440,000 polys.  This one wont be quite as difficult to model or render.

This story was in the news paper this morning, there was a pciture, but I don't have a scanner.. It was a black and white showing Taipei 101 in the Taipei Skyline.

    World's tallest building a wonder
Standing at 509 metres (1671 feet) with 101 floors, the world's tallest building, Taipei 101 presents a new model for the Asian skyscraper seen here April 19, 2004, in Taipei, Taiwan. Designed as a segmented shaft of eight outward sloping segments, the tower resembles a giant glass pagoda. The green tinted glass cladding is meant to mimic the colour of jade. Taipei 101 was finished early 2004 and designed by architects C.Y. Lee and Partners.

supposed to be jade? I guess I need to mess with the color some more.  I am just wondering, should I put a slight reflection map of clouds or buildings to make it look less plain?
    /idealbb/files/taipei6.JPG
cause right now it looks a little too clean to look real
