WOW, kd5rax...that is INCREDIBLE!!!

You also bring up a very good point. It really is more important that the building look good in the game than be realistic. We've seen soooo many amazing projects end up bad because the buildings didn't fit into the game well.

Obviously, there's no chance that would happen with yours, though - that is AMAZING!!

Good lord. That is just incredible, I think this will be the highest rated BAT ever. Amazing, stupendous! It must feel good to be you right about now3.gif My only concern was the nitelighting, there weren't enough windows lit up, but you addressed that so it's straightened out now. 1000000000000/1044.gif

Besutiful!

And it doesn't look like it'll be a zillion tiles to a side either.
I look forward to seeing this in my Taiwan-ish city!

and i thought i didn't like this building, but seeing your model, i think i'll change my mind.
by any chance, can you show another angle because the shadow of the building is covering up the roof and i can't exactly see the detail. of course you don't have to because i'll still download it.
great job. 44.gif

JEC.  The detail on the base is as good as real life.  Everything on the entire model (except nitelites which match the picture shown with few lights, but i changed that to more being on for game aesthetics)  is 100% accurate as far as I can tell, and right now I have about 60 high detailed pictures from all over the internet, discovery channel, and various Simtropolis members.

Wow, you're doing a wonderful job on this!

The building itself is really ugly in real life... dosen't look that much better in game. I'll still download it because on the hard work you've put on this project.

    10/10 for the project.

7/10 for it's appearance. I just don't like the building. I'll give you a ten though, it just wouldn't be Taipei 101 without the ugly triangles. 3.gif

That is exactly what i thought about this building at first.  Quite honestly though, the more I see the architectural detailing and cultural integrations into the modern building, the odd quirks of the building make it stand out in a good way.  The building looks different, not like anything else, and that is what makes it beautiful.  Perfect examples, Petronas Towers and Freedom Tower (not yet built).
Personally, i would hate for every skyscraper in the world to have the same style.  I dislike redundant skylines, everywhere you look, there should be something unique to focus on, not just one building repeated 500 times.

It's the second time i've seen the building, so hopefully, my views on the building will change like yours. The Freedom Tower is already growing on me and looking good actually. The 'path of heroes' and other things about the building make it more desireble. I thought that the Petrona's were awesome when I first looked at them. Yes, it is nice to see variety. But there are some buildings that will be ugly no matter what. John Hancock Center and the Original World Trade Centers are the two ugliest buildings.

Keep up the good work! Can't wait to place it in my city.

I must agree with all of you about the ugly design, but yet somehow attractive look due to the 'pioneering' design. But it doesn't make a difference how ugly it is because the massive amount of time and detail you put into this makes it worth it ten times over. By the way, any word on the rendering yet kd5rax?

One segment down, 2 to go.  Now it is time to start brainstroming ui and lot ideas/details.  I am thinking it would be alright to just have the lone building on its lot with no props, unless it doesnt take up the whole lot, then I will have to generat ideas for lot design.  Another idea (equinox's by the way), is that we could render the base without the mall, lower the upper segment, and make a growable half height taiepi tower, kind of like a taller version of the mini-taipei.

if you do equinox's idea would u still be making a full size landmark w/mall? or is this an either/or situation? personally, i would like to see a full version model w/mall if possible (i just got back from taipei earlier this month and the mall is a big part of the building).

Of course I am making a version with the mall, It would have been a big waste of time to make it other wise.  But the mall is too large to grow, so to get a growable version ( not the final landmark version) the mall would need to be removed.  Anyway,  from the pics I have posted on the progress, does the mall look accurate?

It looks very acurate from the pictures I have seen, and the amount of detail is incredible. Just a few more steps and this bad boy is going to be ready for rendering, and dare I say it, release?

well, the second segment has the common render problem with the wierd twisted thing.  I have as yet been able to figure out how to fix it, and have tried several different things.  Dont worry though, I will keep trying till it works.

Well, try making a new file, and merging everything into it, except for the cam rig(handle). Then, set everything up, night colors, and all, and it should work fine.

lol, in the screenshot #1 for the updated Rax Condos, you can see a certain building in the lower-right corner ... of course, that's the only rotation it appears correctly from, but nevertheless, it shows you it's there and it's progressing. Tonight I'm rendering (or trying to) the segment 2, and tomorrow night is the base, which I'm expecting to take about 20 to 25 hours.

On the issue of a no-base version: I think that's a good idea, and have no qualms about rendering a different version. Most likely I'd have kd do a separate upload to the STEX for the poor ole' dialup users, though, haha.

I don't see how anybody thinks this building is ugly ... very Asian and very beautiful as far as I'm concerned. And so is the John Hancock Center, but that's another matter ...

Actually ... kd5rax, if you would think about it, we wouldn't have to rerender if we made a realistic-looking base the same height as the mall but the same width and depth as the tower itself ... hmm ...

I actually like the style of the building, once I learned the architecture represents bamboo, and read about many of the other cultural symbols integrated into the design, it's actually quite appealing.

WOW! I just looked at the Rax Condo screen shot on the STEX and saw the 101 in-game! It looks INCREDIBLE in-game, and I like it so much more now that I have seen how it will look in the game. I hope that the Oct. 17 release date can be pushed forward, but that is just wishful thinking, keep up the awesome work man
