Fortunately it looks like this weekend's storm will likely be less than an inch.

Just got a foot here today.  That was a surprise.  There was no real media buildup, I was completely surprised to wake up this morning to a full 4-5" on the ground.  It fell steadily all day and now there's at least a foot.  Tokyo was ground to a standstill with less than 4", but they're still getting more overnight, and Tohoku is going to get dumped on, too.

 

My minivan's under there somewhere.

Well, I know it never snows in Miami. But for Connecticut, 8 inches is not exceptional. Most winters feature at least one storm of that magnitude. Last winter at about this time there was a storm that dumped 2-3 feet of snow on much of Connecticut. That was exceptional.

We haven't had snow outside my place since 2008. (I live at a much higher altitude than the rest of the city and we get snow one day every one to three years.)

Instead it's 39°C here, or a stinking 102°F. And it's only 11am.

Because the temps hovered around zero and then were a bit above freezing today (probably 8 or 9C), removing all that snow was backbreaking labor.  My neighbor made things worse because he has this power washer and was using it to try to break up the slush with water.  It didn't work.  It just made more, heavier slush.  The problem is he's an older guy who loves the sound of his own voice more than he likes actual conversation, so even if I did try to tell him, he'd just ignore it.  *sigh*  At least he lent me his shovel.  It also fills me completely with an air of superiority.  I'm so much better at snow stuff than basically every single person in town.

 

Man, it was a LOT of snow to remove...
